  • Here's episode 2 from our series about Todd Rundgren's jaw-dropping album “A Cappella.”
    Todd Rundgren is a genius when it comes to background vocals. Even Kanye West is calling Todd for arrangements! Hear from Jim Steinman (the main guy behind Meat Loaf's biggest albums), Kasim Sulton, and Todd himself about how he puts background vocals together.

    His masterpiece. And that's saying something considering the rest of his discography

    I've enjoyed both episodes immensely. It's good to see a Todd interview wherein the interviewer actually knows something about Todd's music. Great job!

    i picked up a cappella at a used cd store back in 1988. i wasnt sure what i was getting accept it was todd and i love todd. first couple listens i was disappointed. and then my head exploded and i feel in love with it.
    as an educator it's always one of the first albums i play for students as background music while they worked independently.
    i still love it today!
    hodjia is my favorite.
    thanks todd

    On top of everything else, the lyrics to "Pretending to Care" are just devastating!

    Great stuff Gregg. Can't wait for Ep 3! A Capella is pure genius but then again, so are most Todd records.

    Apparently Ardent Records engineers Terry Manning and John Fry had a system of surreptitiously recording string sections onto 1 of 8 tracks- one for each note- to simulate a Mellotron or Chamberlin before they had one.

    The last acapella album I can remember was The Bob's. Great version of Helter Skelter!

    Acappella is a masterpiece, and i hate him for not truly finishing "Up Against It" which he started demoing in 1985-6 (And released only in some far away country in 1997)

    • @brbernardini
      @brbernardini 2 года назад +2

      To be fair, he *kind* of finished "Up Against It". The official release was definitely a bit more spruced up than the demos that had been circulating previously.
