love this video, I have some cutter quilts I have picked up at yard sales. This bucket hat & the makers bags are just the right projects for these damaged, unwanted quilts... Thanks for the inspiration & your how to videos. Hope to see more of your easy-to-follow instructions!
I'm not a quilt pattern expert but I "think," the first quilt is a version of grandmother's flower garden. It is definitely not a double wedding ring. I love your concept of repurposing damaged quilts. Very one of a kind!
How would it go if you made two hats, of inner lining and outer shell and sewed them together at the brim, turning through a gap in one of the seams of the lining hat’s band. And stitch through the layers of the brim to hold it together. Thanks for these great ideas!
hmmm, that might work. Having made a few of these, I feel like the important part is sewing the concentric circles on the brim to give it structure. That also makes the rest of the hat go together easily.
How many sewing machines do you have? Would love to get a juki. I learned to sew on fur and leather designer repair. So fun. That was a long time ago!😊
When I work at my maker space (NextFab in Philadelphia) I use their Juki straight stitch machines. At home I have a Janome HD9 which is considered home-use semi professional. I LOVE the industrial machines!
I would not cut those up! If some patches are in bad shape you can just make the shape out of vintage material and place on top of the damaged piece and applique it in!
I had a vintage pattern that I used. And there are plenty on Etsy as well. The quilts had plenty of damage and staining, and were sold to me as "cutters."

This was Great Paige! I have been looking for projects for old, tattered quilts that still have some life left in them. Just love them!! Thank you!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!

You're absolutely right, and I had added a subtitle correcting myself, but it seems to have gotten deleted when the video uploaded!
What a fun video. Keep sharing your creations! ❤️❤️❤️
thank you!
Great tutorial
Thank you!
Reminds me a a sewing machine I ran when I worked in a garment shop and operated a machine with a knee lift.
Knee lifts are the best!
Love it 💕
Thinking, with that preshrunk outer shell, you might prewash the lining?
the muslin came pre-shrunk. If it hadn't, yes, I would have washed and pressed it prior to using.

Ah! I’m also planning some vilene in there. Bought some duck canvas cotton which should be rugged
What fabric do you use for your lining. It sounds quite stiff and weighty. Is it a canvass of some sort?
It’s a muslin fabric. Medium weight
What is thefabric lining you used!! Great tutorial!!!
Just a regular muslin fabric. If you have quilting cotton, that would work too
Is the lining cotton duck?
Thank you for a great lesson.
It’s a cotton muslin
@@m.a.b.e.l Thank you for sharing your skills and knowledge.
I appreciate it.

@@m.a.b.e.l thank you. I do too. I'm in the market for one finally! Of course I would love a great deal! If I'm patient enough it will usually happen!
I am a professional quilt maker and that is absolutely not a double wedding ring
I know, that’s why I added text on the video correcting myself.
How much do you sell these for and do you ship?
They cost $55 and they’re available on my website www.mabelstyle.com/
Where can I find templates for pieces?
This was a vintage pattern I had in my stash, but I think you can find similar patterns on Etsy or if you Google ‘bucket hat sewing pattern’
Could I hire you to make some of these from an old family quilt?
email me at hello@mabelstyle.com, and we can talk!
What pattern are you using?? Thank You
It's an old vintage pattern I picked up at a yard sale years ago. I do believe there are lots of bucket hat patterns on Etsy though.
@@m.a.b.e.l Well you sure do make them look nice. My granddaughter loves this type of a hat and I have some real old quilts. Thanks for responding
your granddaughter is certainly lucky that you have BOTH quilts and the ability to sew up a hat!
Not a double wedding ring quilt… flower garden
Yes, you’re right. I believe I corrected that in the subtitles.

I have repaired quilts before. Some I choose not to.
Those quilts look too nice to cut up. I would have been hard presses to make that pattern, without deconstruting a hat.
