dankje voor deze video over mijn stad , landgenoot! worth to mention that charleroi was an economically powerful city back then, major names in technology worked there, such as Ernest Solvay and the big bang theoretician Georges Lemaître, elder people now don't recognize the city they once knew , it was liveable, safe , full of life with cafes , music clubs ect but poor political management ruined the city since the 80' , they didn't cope with the closing of heavy industry factories and the city just fell, leading to high unemployement and low education nowadays there is improvements but a vast part of the residents lacks the educational tools to make it a better place to live( see the littering for exemple, it's everywhere)

They are not so ugly. Ok, there are plenty of much more beautiful cities in Belgium and Netherlands. That Dutroux case og pedophiliae is really one of the ugliest stories I've heard in my life... But the city is not guilty of that. Starting with the name "Charleroi", it sounds very beautifully for me, since I used to see it on the map when I was a child... Never have I seen so many addicts in my life. This city would be a great decor for the zombie apocalyps. And the city isnt really ugly, its just neglected.
Yeah to be honest, I walked as a zombie in a part of this video and I had the same vibe.😅 It seems a couple of years ago it was even a worse place to be, but with that said in general it was a fun trip to do and I didn't experience anything bad.

I come there at least once a week as a distribution chauffeur. Grim, indrustrial city, with nicer parts. Has a lot of charm though, if you're a 'romantic' type. At leat a better atmosphere then Brussels for example!

I wouldn't call it ugly but it looks very desolate and bleak. There's not many people in the streets either (as seen in the video). Could be a good thing for someone with social anxiety but somehow it makes the city even more bleak.

Interesting, as I witnessed a similar scene at Liège's city tourist office. A German tourist was asking for some information but there was no attendant who spoke German (!). I eventually decided to act a goodwill interpreter. I actually did THEIR job! A Russian friend of mine who was visiting the city together with me was amazed: he is a polyglot and also offered to interpret between the tourist and the attendant but he was shocked.

You did go to the power station. This is the one in Monceau-sur-Sambre? is it possible to go inside the cooling tower or inside any of the buildings there?
Yes it is that one. No the cooling tower is sealed off now + they removed the stairs. It is still possible to visit some buildings, but it is against the law so do so at your own risk.

Charleroi was a beautiful - vibrant city in the past which became derelict at the closure of the mines .when people moved away to look for work elsewhere!. Then migrants from poor countries moved in . I know that there are many many other more ugly cities in the world. Charleroi is longing to be reborn. Vive Charleroi !.

Tout d'abord, c'est la BBC qui l'a nommée la ville la plus laide du monde. Je suis juste allé là-bas pour vérifier si c'était vrai. Au fait, j'ai passé un bon moment à Charleroi et comme je l'ai dit dans la vidéo pour moi, ce n'est pas la ville la plus laide du monde. Salutations 🙂

Not wonderful but I’ve seen uglier cities & spots. Maybe it looks more depressing than ugly. Funny! English media talking about ugly cities in other countries hahaha, a walk thru some of the English ones? I know them ...
Yeah I totally agree that there are worst places than Charleroi. To be honest I really liked my visit. I can imagine that there are crazy neighborhoods in England. Feel free to share them. 😉
