I'm a huge fan of Sporting Charleroi, liked your video a lot. Clearly not a classical city for foreign people. Nevertheless this city and its people suffered so much from the deindustrialization. Back to early 1900's, it was the second richest region in Europe. The city improved a lot but still so many things to work on. On sport side, Sporting Charleroi is a subtop team in Belgium with a nice and very warm atmosphere. New stadium is planned to be ready in 2025, right in the middle of this post industrial area you visited. Feel free to come back, I never miss a home game so feel free to send a message if you ever come back.

Very good! The central part of the city looks good, I like the stadium, the fans and the Royal Charleroi Sporting Club mascot, thanks for the video. Big hug here from Brazil 🤗😉✌
Actually, Charleroi has been quite known as a hosting venue for the EURO 2000 which took place in the Netherlands and Belgium. The Stade du Pays de Charleroi looked totally different back then and its capacity was much higher, but it was drastically stripped down (or was it completely rebuilt in a very simple way?) about ten years ago because it was way too oversized for its club R.C.S.C. England beat Germany 1-0 there, I remember this very well. England managed by the beloved Kevin Keegan. This was probably the worst EURO Germany has ever played so far, the only point they gained in this group came from a lucky draw vs. Romania. So they were eliminated in the group stage and finishing at the last place, including 40-year-old Lothar Matthäus being called up into the squad. :D P.S. At 17:11 you're pronouncing the city's name utterly correct for the very first time. ;) Thanks for your brilliant video. I have to say that I like places like this and I'm living in an area of Germany which best days are just as long ago as those of Wallonia, being a former coal mining area as well.
They dont rebuild the stadium they took away the extra seat and build a velodrome at Gilly with it. But Charleroi planned to build a brand new stadium !

I would have loved to see the old Bosuilstadion before the recent renovation. As far as I remember the pictures from it, it reminded me of a good old British football ground with its lovely stands covered by these beautiful, charming gable roofs which I absolutely love. But as far as I can tell (unfortunately I've still never been to Antwerp even if I'm not that far away from Belgium, living in the West of Germany), it's still a proper and remarkable stadium today with its own character. Totally different from all these cold-hearted 'modern arenas' built in the last ten or fifteen years, of which most are looking exactly the same.

Belgium is usually maligned because of its flat landscape in Flanders. I'm from East Anglia so the Flemish landscape is home from home. The Flemish towns/cities; Ghent, Antwerp, Bruges are fascinating. The French-speaking south is hilly and well worth exploring. Belgium has a lot going for it: compact size, which means you can cover a lot of ground in a short time, fascinating history, excellent food and drink, particularly the beer. It borders France, Netherlands, Luxembourg and Germany. It's not especially cheap but the food and drink is always of a high quality.

Great choice of beer there, one of my all time favourites.. You can get tripel karmeliet in tesco, in a bottle thats the same size as a wine bottle for £5.
Lived in Belgium for 8 years and you have to know 1 thing: Belgium is not a country, but 2 countries: Flanders (Dutch-speaking part) and Wallonia (French-speaking part). The places are worlds apart. Like night-and-day. Flanders is rich and has very beautiful cities (Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp...) while Wallonia is quite poor and has very grim, ugly cities. Sad but true.
My favorite Club! I visited Charleroi for my 21st birthday to see a game (was actually against Club Brugge as well). I wasn’t aware of the city’s title either. It’s far from being beautiful, nor is it modern😅, it looks like an old American industrial town. BUT, there ARE some fantastic spots, AND people in Charleroi. The Belgian Pro League is definitely underrated, looooots of talents we’re developed in this league. Thank you for this video, made my day for sure
Most of Wallonian cities are quite rough on the edges tbh (because of the industrial decline), the people are really nice tho. You picked out a good game for sure, always a nice atmosphere in Charleroi and they always have a pretty decent team. Maybe not known abroad but they definitely have their place in Belgium's highest division and they are tough to beat, not an easy away game.
Love these kinda videos you do mate, look forward to the German and Dutch vids 👍🏼 (if you got the degree for crossing the streets in Netherlands that is 😂)
My city of Charleroi hosted 3 matches of the Euro 2000, including 2 times England (vs Germany and Romania). I was 10 years old and we got places in the stadium between some English fans. That was a great experience. As a football fan and specially English football, I had the opportunity to see my favorite players such as Alan Shearer or Michael Owen. Great memories. Obviously the stadium was bigger at that time with a capacity of 30 000 people, which was too big for a quite small club, so it got reduced, also because it's right in the city center and very close to houses and flats, which was quite disturbing for the neighbourhood.
Seems like Belgium has a system similar to Australia. First past the post is regarded as the Premiers or Minor Premiers. For most sports the teams finishing in the top 4 or 8 then go into the Finals knockout series, with the eventual survivor being the Champions.
They half the points of the first 4teams, then they play 2 times against eachother. It’s not really a knock-out series. Most of belgian teams dont even like the concept, all about the money I guess
Great vid as always, agree with you that there is a weird beauty in those kind of places. Also the amount of head on the beer they gave you at 10:35 is criminal!
Remember that this “title” was bestowed by a Dutch newspaper. The Dutch don’t know much about the world outside of Western Europe and North America - and more importantly they look down on their Belgian neighbours. I believe that explains it all.
Charleroi is indeed the worst depressing city I have ever been. I am Belgian. The same grey everywhere. Houses, buildings, streets... It's actually unbelievable what it does to you. Feeling very happy and then visiting Charleroi, instantly you just do not feel that happy anymore. I rather visit any graveyard then Charleroi.
you should look up pictures of what the stadium looked like during Euro 2000. I thought it was the most beautiful stadium of that tournament. It's a shame they had to downsize that stadium like that. I understand that you do that when the stadium is much too big or poorly maintained. But it really was a fantastic stadium. As for the city. i went there once. Well, when you visit Belgium from the Netherlands, you get the feeling that you are going back in time 50 years. that starts on the highway. But Charleroi itself is dated compared to the rest of Belgium.
I think Charleroi is a nice city despite being apparently, the world's ugliest city and fully like all the respective Belgian clubs from the top till bottom tiers of the Belgian football, good friends!!!A fantastic football match between Royal Charleroi and Club Brugge indeed LONG LIVE BELGIAN FOOTBALL AND THE COUNTRY WHICH IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITES EVER,GOOD FRIENDS!!!BELGIUM EVER!!!🇧🇪
If it would be only possible you surely would have a thousands of likes from me for waking up in the middle of the night to make this video. What a commitment to the football!!!
Fun fact: Charleroi was also one of the host cities of Euro 2000 and even hosted Germany - England. Back then the stadium had a capacity of 30 000 visitors with one of the steepest stands ever. Since then the stadium has been downgraded to a safer capacity of 20 000 visitors.
The thing about Charleroi is that it's the most industrial city in Belgium which is why it's so ugly because it's just industrial buildings everywhere, Belgium is a nice country tho you could argue that Charleroi is the most ugliest city in Belgium. There are some nice cities to visit in Belgium such as : - Dinant - Brugge - Ghent - Liège - Mons - Tournai - Durbuy (World's smallest city) - La Roche-En-Ardenne - Rochefort - Namur - Antwerp And so many more 😉
Ghent and Bruges are absolutely magnigificent cities, but it's cool that you included some lesser known ones in the list. Plenty of cities in Wallonia are worth a visit despite the bad reputation Wallonia gets.
Look here, we got nice Belgium buildings, Belgium dogs, Belgium air, Belgium grass, Belgium people, Belgium rocks, Belgium mountai--- Yes, because you are in Belgium.
And now time for the most beautiful city of Belgium time to go to antwerp to Royal antwerp football club. The atmosphere is really crazy and very good. It's so fun there! Should really check it out
quality vid mate please come and watch a game of Royal Antwerp FC you will absolutely love the city itself and the atmosphere in the stadium is incredible
This is one of few stadiums to have reduced in capacity and still remain occupied. I remember England v Romania (Euro 200 Group Stage) game and the stadium looked totally different to what it does now. Used to be iconic for the 4 individual stands. Now a shadow of its former glory. Heard they move from there, would be shame if they do.
Love Belgian football. Visited Charleroi as a city in 2019. Went on to Liege which is much better for a night out but Charleroi is still OK. The Irish bar just right of the square is really decent. Would love to tick that ground off. Very good vid. Probs your best if I'm honest
Great video. Hope to attend the fixture on Friday evening weekend of 11th March. Looking forward to visiting the city. Can anyone tell me whether I can get a couple of tickets on the day of the game? Also how far a walk is the stadium from the city centre?
Nice stuff, i went a few years ago to see Olympic Charleroi and i enjoyed Charleroi, it's gritty but i liked it. For me having done over 1100 grounds in 26 countries Belgium has some of my favourite grounds. Brussels in particular with the super Trois Tilleus Stadion that is in my top 3 worldwide. RWD Molenbeek for me has one of the best atmospheres anywhere with superb fans, Boom is another stunning ground as was Antwerp pre modernisation, Racing Mechelen another in my top 10.

Not true, rather bullshit.
Thank you for this video, made my day for sure
excellent video, that's the kind of thing we wanna see!
and be sure to eventually come to Brazil where you could check some of our stadiums too!
Very good report, Club Brugge is the best team in Belgium and difficult to play against, but all credits to Charleroi from a Club fan.
great video Sam. would love to see more of this type
Seemed like a cool little stadium and a great atmosphere, interesting video.👍⚽🇦🇺
Great vid as always, agree with you that there is a weird beauty in those kind of places. Also the amount of head on the beer they gave you at 10:35 is criminal!
Draft Tripel Karmeliet. Amazingly popular in Belgium :-)
@@stevendegroof8447 duly noted, I’m a big fan of Duvel
Honestly, Charleroi reminds me of quite a few cities in the UK.
ironic to see them playing Bruges
which is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and historic medieval cities in Europe
love your outlook fella
Whoever was the snowflake that named Charleroi "World's ugliest city" has definitely never step out of western Europe lol
Class video again, only started watching this week but love the videos already
It´s Belgium´s Gary, Indiana. It has character. The Dutch with their hyper modern truman show soulless cities don´t understand authenticity.
you should look up pictures of what the stadium looked like during Euro 2000. But Charleroi itself is dated compared to the rest of Belgium.
great vid just earned a new sub!
Thank you so much, welcome aboard!!!
U should visit the bosuil, playground of Antwerp!
I cried laughing when you said “this geezer’s raging” while sitting right next to him 😂😂😂
I think Charleroi is a nice city despite being apparently, the world's ugliest city and fully like all the respective Belgian clubs from the top till bottom tiers of the Belgian football, good friends!!!A fantastic football match between Royal Charleroi and Club Brugge indeed LONG LIVE BELGIAN FOOTBALL AND THE COUNTRY WHICH IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITES EVER,GOOD FRIENDS!!!BELGIUM EVER!!!🇧🇪
There are some nice cities to visit in Belgium such as :
- Dinant
- Brugge
- Ghent
- Liège
- Mons
- Tournai
- Durbuy (World's smallest city)
- La Roche-En-Ardenne
- Rochefort
- Namur
- Antwerp
And so many more 😉
Ghent and Bruges are absolutely magnigificent cities, but it's cool that you included some lesser known ones in the list. Plenty of cities in Wallonia are worth a visit despite the bad reputation Wallonia gets.
@@quentin9032 Ouep, en effet je trouve que notre petite wallonie mérite mieux il y a tellement de beaux endroits en Wallonie 😊
I am an Anderlecht supporter ;) i liké your Channel !!
You should visit royal club antwerp.
The oldest team in belgium.
Our supporters are unique in belgium and europe.
You won’t be disappointed
hello, indeed Charleroi is growing! moreover they will have a brand new football stadium, look on the internet, new stadium of Charleroi
Sam u get about fella another top viewing
Looks like a northern English City to be honest. Great fasade on the Stadium , probably slightly old style. But I like it
Look here, we got nice Belgium buildings, Belgium dogs, Belgium air, Belgium grass, Belgium people, Belgium rocks, Belgium mountai---
Yes, because you are in Belgium.
Beligan* good lord took me 16 mins to correct.

Personally, I like the chocolate and beer.
Belgium Waffles G'day from Adelaide Australia Hup Ajax
Great video! If I could recommend a football club to visit, then you really should visit Royal Antwerp FC. Loudest fans in Belgium

And now time for the most beautiful city of Belgium time to go to antwerp to Royal antwerp football club. The atmosphere is really crazy and very good. It's so fun there! Should really check it out
He should do a two for one, first Antwerp and then den Barechoem, No need to visit Beerschot tho.
That would be wicked G'day from Adelaide Australia Hup Ajax
Antwerpen is zeker niet de mooiste stad van Belgie
@@glennnot5719 that's so true xD
@@skra_bullet ma wel de schoonste club
quality vid mate
please come and watch a game of Royal Antwerp FC
you will absolutely love the city itself and the atmosphere in the stadium is incredible
You took Ryanair Seriously
Thank you so much for doing a pro league video. Outside of EPL pro league is the league I follow the most! You’re the best
As a Sporting Charleroi fan and a local, this "award" was way exagerated, and now the city is changing a lot😅
hope you will return one day and drink a charleroi's beer in "the manufacture". You will enjoy it! :-)
Thought it was grimsby town fc at first
That description would suit them more lol
I mean we're not a city to start with 😉
@@benbrist yeah still a shithole though 😂
Great video again mate. I'll admit, I'm so jealous you get to travel to all these places! I guess I'll have to live my dreams through you haha
Love Belgian football.
Visited Charleroi as a city in 2019. Went on to Liege which is much better for a night out but Charleroi is still OK. The Irish bar just right of the square is really decent. Would love to tick that ground off. Very good vid. Probs your best if I'm honest
great airport and a great city !
Great video. Hope to attend the fixture on Friday evening weekend of 11th March. Looking forward to visiting the city. Can anyone tell me whether I can get a couple of tickets on the day of the game? Also how far a walk is the stadium from the city centre?
Do one of beerschot , olympic stadion of 1920 ;) . Love your blogs !!
Great video! Amazing to bump into the players beforehand
You have to come to helsinki
I had a meeting in that factory 22 years ago!
Dude I’m so glad I found your channel
Love the way you wave to your case😅
I did like the city a lot ✨ wanna visit it and mostly, I wanna see a match there 🔥 please do visit🙏
Great vid
the final pronounciation was right, I'm a Brugge fan and I loved your video, a new subscriber for you man :)
he should definitely do a european match of Club Bruges next!!
I've seen much worse places than Charleroi.
Half of my family lives in charleroi and i visited them it was a beautyful city
You should travel to tallaght stadium or go to a few of their away games in the conference league if you can.
A club from Belgium Sweeden Norway
I counted 8 different versions of the word Charleroi haha
Love the videos
Thank you for your video
I am glad to see you took the time to admire that blue passport you are holding at the airport.
After your visit to Charleroi, go to see Bruges... The most beautiful city of Belgium 😀
Yes, it’s fun to see Belgium’s ugliest and most beautiful cities play against one another 😆
Try Charle-wow! Close enough!
