In this particular instance it’s not heresay, Kevin J Anderson is stating that this did happen. The EU was the officially licensed continuation of the saga. It’s not debatable in my opinion.
That comic was also originally supposed to conclude the original marvel comic line that wasn’t considered part of the over all canon until later years.

George is the one who told them to bring back the emperor for Dark Empire instead of Vader. He is also a visual person and loved reading the comics.
