I wound up driving 700 miles from Columbus, Indiana to Kitchener, Ontario to see the band because of this song. My favorite band, ever.
Big Prize is a killer record
Once I heard HMS...I've always been a fan...AND they STILL ROCK!
I've been listening to Honeymoon Suite for 34 years, one of my all time favorite bands!
HMS's epic hit "Feel it Again" and video should be in the Top 10 songs that defined the decade called "The Eighties". It played over and over on Mtv and you wanted more!
Great keyboards mixed with great guitar…. Makes great music.
saw you opeing up for heart in the 80s and you were great1
Ray was a friend of my brother's in middle school. He was the nicest guy and is a very talented keyboard player.
Derry is the reason i picked up a guitar, I wore out the tape learning the songs. Great band.
still one of my favorite bands
I’m Canadian and grew up listening to Honeymoon Suite. Great band with awesome songs!!! Got to see them live about three years ago when they opened for Foreigner. They were fantastic. Went from 50 back to a 16 year old for a few hours!!!😊
I’ve seen foreigner and honeymoon suite in the past 3 months (separately). What a dream to see them together!!
Awesome I miss them bad ass group
Under rated band
Love "The Big Prize" album, and the band in general! Derry is such an under-rated guitarist! He is much like Keith Scott with Bryan Adams, in that his playing fits and elevates every song he touches!
I thought Ray Coburn was the band's secret weapon. His songs are so good on The Big Prize, my favourites on there in fact.
Was fortunate to grow up close enough to the Canadian border that we could pick up the Canadian radio stations. I discovered Honeymoon Suite and they became one of my favorite bands while in high school in the 1980s.
Loved “The Big Prize”. I bought it because of “Feel It Again”. I also love their new album, “Alive”. So good! Thanks for the interview!
Love HMS. I first saw them play in southern Ontario (in a city very close to Kitchener, Ontario) in 1986 and they were great.
Then I personally met Johnny at the 1989 Molson Indy in Toronto and shook his hand. It was very crowded and we were walking in opposite directions, and when I asked him if he was Johnny D from HMS, he was very surprised that I recognized him. I asked him for his autograph and he tore off the flap of his cigarette pack and he signed it and gave it to me. He was very nice and polite and he was genuinely surprised that someone recognized who he was.
Bad ass song bad ass band very under rated
Awesome band got three cd’s
Looking forward to seeing them tomorrow at Peach Fest 2024!!
Thanks for this. Loved this band. And yes, Kim Mitchell was also great.
What an awesome song!!!
Hello and Happy New Year! BTW, for the record, Feel It Again was entirely written when I brought it in. Every lyric, every melody, all music and the entire arrangement. If you want to know about me it's probably best to just ask me. Stay well!! www.raycoburn.ca
Appreciate this, Ray. Didn't think Derry was particularly classy here. Also, you wrote a phenomenal song. One of my all time favorites.
Incredible song thank you Ray all the best
One of the best songs ever!!
Also grew up listening to HMS. Derry Grehan has a particular guitar style and sound that is his own. As well Jonnie Dee has one of the most distinctive voices in Canadian Rock. They are the glue of the band. Love Ray's song Feel It Again, but who knows how it would have sold had it not been for the collective synergy between all members. Regardless, Ray should have stuck with the band through it all. Excellent keyboard player!! I got to sing with them live in 1990, New Girl Now. That was a trip!! :) Thanks guys for all the years of great music!!
Thank you so much for creating such an amazing song! I can still remember listening to this on the radio as a teenager learning how to drive! with a very impatient dad riding shotgun! The opening immediately transports me back to the 80’s. It’s wonderful!
The Big Prize is my favourite album of theirs. I still listen to it regularly
Great channel and AWESOME band!!
I loved Honeymoon Suite. Heard them a lot of Buffalo Rock Radio (97 Rock). Recently purchased the re-issues of Big Prize and their debut. Crunchy yet polished arena rock at its best. The big choruses that Bon Jovi became famous for were first heard on Loverboy and Honeymoon Suite albums that Bruce Fairbairn and Bob rock produced/engineered!
It was earlier..listen to Streetheart,Harlequin,Orphan...
I saw them quite a while back at Madison Square Garden, They were great Derry was swinging his guitar around not missing a note.
Rock On !!!
Bad Attitude was a kick a$$ song.
I loved HS and bought their first album only hearing one tune lol. What a great great band and I wished they toured more in their heyday. Come to Florida, would love to take in a concert 😎
My cover band back in 87 did Feel it again! Loved singing it! And luckily our bassist had a high enough voice for the back up vocals lol❤
Hms and this album the big prize are still in my playlist. A lot of people I know have never heard of them. I have said at a couple of concerts that loverboy opened, I said they got the wrong Canadian band, should have been hms.
Hit writer ✍🏾
great guitarist
Definitely 💯
Last year I read the book Metal On Ice about Canadian hardrock and heavy metal bands. Honey Suite got mentioned quite a bit in it. I'm sort of a johnny come lately to appreciating the band's music. I did like their videos on MTV back then, but I caught the thrash mania virus.
Derry has pleasant voice
Derry should have done a solo album, if he hasn't already. Great singer and player
Nice to see an honest response without being sour...
Mickey Curry on drums. Great track!
Love to know why was Dave Betts was let go, or quit after Racing After Midnight.
I believe Dave played on only 3 max 4 songs on The Big Prize.
You should interview Hawire's Dave Rashed.
Always dug this band from their debut self titled album in 84 and their smash single New Girl Now to there heavy singles Bad Attitude in 85 and Love changes everything in 87. Then Rock Radio in the states turned their backs on them WTFF?? Who the hell knows =(
If Monsters Under the Bed hadn’t come out right after Nirvana hit with Nevermind, I think they would have finally gotten their due in the U.S. I don’t even think Warner Bros. released it down here, which is a shame.
trooper, streetheart, april wine, harlequin, toronto, doug and the slugs, jitters, prism, and on and on...
When Ray Coburn left , the band died.. thats why on their next album Cold Look was brought by the record company..and they never took off.. Huge mistake was the gtr player's ... Ray is the huge part of Big Prize with his synths and his sound.. That Half baked song was their biggest hit. + Lost & Found too
I want a Soda
Then you might as well go for one...
Cause nobody hurts/drowns and nobody cries/dies…
fel it again was actually the only song of theirs that i liked.
i hope next week you ask how they snagged bobby kimball
of toto to sing backround on feel it again.
thanks John! Just to let you know Bobby Kimball was not on that record. Stay well!
In other words, Ray was no Burton Cummings……..
I heard Feel It Again when it came out and I was 19. It immediately made a mix tape. I played the crap outta that song. They should have been way bigger in the states. Great interview.
