I hope it is not too late to get some answers to questions I have. I am just beginning. Did you have a website when you first started? Where did you go to for training on areas where you would like to improve? (ie. Website design)
Sorry - I must have missed these questions - I did not have a website when I first started. I got my first client just with a Facebook page and online portfolio. I mostly learned from clients when I went along. I WISH I would have had a resource like SavvyTech (www.thevirtualsavvy.com/savvytech)

If a company had to hire an employee to do the work they can pay a VA to do, they would have to pay a lot more the $40 or $50 an hour due to the cost of benefits

It feels like everyone here has a ton of experience in admin jobs. I am a recent grad going back to school to be a paralegal. So I feel in over my head. But with school and my health issues, I'm looking for work that is flexible and doesn't interfere with my school schedule. VA work sounds great. But it also seems very overwhelming.
It can seem overwhelming, but you want to keep in mind is that you don't have to offer EVERYTHING, just what you specialize in!

Hey Patrice, I won't lie to you girl, it's hard work and you have to dig your heels in when also working a 9-5 and being a single mom (my mom was a single mom and the challenge is REAL)! But it can be done, and I have seen so many of our students, kick it and change their lives!

As a general VA, I was told I have to be hourly. How would you package email and calendar management, invoicing, customer service, Facebook group management?
Great question! As a freelancer, YOU get to decide how you price and package your services. I would recommend figuring out how much money you'd like to make per hour and create packages around that!
