After watching All The Stations UK, and now catching up watching the Ireland version, I have to say that it is not the trains or the stations or the music or the editing that draws me to these videos. I have come to the conclusion that it is actually the chemistry between Geoff and Vicki, and never has that been more apparent than in this episode. Love is hard to define but you know it when you see it. Nothing else to add, just stating the obvious perhaps, but it's a pleasure to watch (and learn something along the way too.) Cheers from Connecticut, USA.
On booking your seats with your name above.....I heard of a couple whose teenage kids booked the seats for them and booked them under the names of Mickey and Minnie Mouse! They had to travel the entire journey from Cork to Dublin with people smiling at their names!! Lesson?? Book your own seats 🤣🤣🤣
Collooney was the only small town in Ireland with three train stations. The current station was on the Midland, Great Western line to Dublin. Just south of it was the station (now a house) on the Limerick line, part of the Waterford, Limerick and Western Railway. Just to the north was the station (demolished) for the Enniskillen line, part of the Sligo, Leitrim and Northern Counties company.
I also had the same experience on the Sligo line. We were going from Longford to Dublin and ended up going from Enfield back to Mullingar because a man got on the wrong train and was stressing that he was going to be late for an occasion in Moate!
M3 Parkway is a brilliant idea for a station. London should have a station like this for the M1, by the London Gateway service station between Borehamwood and Mill Hill.
The lack of this in London means that people going to football at Wembley go to Stanmore and Canons Park (where I live) on the Jubilee Line and get tube the rest of the way.
I love the fact that, since i'm planning to visit Ireland in a few months, you're giving me all kinds of ideas for railway day trips from Dublin. I may not get them all in on this trip, but there will be other visits.
How happy is Vicki today!? Also, are we going to do all the bus stations next? After that are we going to do all the castles? After that are we going to do all the airports? After that are we going to do all the countries? After that are we going to do all the cities? After that are we going to do all the towns? After that are we going to do all the villages? After that are we going to do all the hamlets?

Apparently, those trains are some old vehicles from Spain.. wonder who got the idea of buying them. I pity the folks who live closer to the tracks
6:56 Green pillar boxes! I once saw one where the Royal Crest had been neatly angle ground off so all you got was a faint outline. There was also one where the door had been smashed and carefully welded back together again, with the crest removed. This was in Sligo- I was there for a wedding many years ago.

Sligo was also home to a narrow gauge railway station that connected to the Donegal County Railway and (I think) had a line through Leitrim to Enniskillen in Fermanagh. Both gone since the 1950's.
No, there was never a narrow gauge line north of Sligo. The Sligo, Leitrim and Northern Counties Rly was standard gauge to Enniskillen via Manorhamilton, connecting with the Great Northern to Londonderry; it ran into Sligo from a junction with the Dublin main line at Collooney. Like the GNR it was a casualty of the NI government's purge of western and cross-border routes in the mid-1950s.
Another great video. And yes M3 parkways line used to extend north to connect at navan with the line that still exists from Drogheda used only by the Tara mines trains these days. #allthefacts
M3 parkway is part of a new Navan line which Irish Rail built around 2010/2011. It was as you may be able to tell meant to go to Navan however with the recession it was put on hold and M3 Parkway was made a temporary terminus but hasn't been touched since. I'd say hopefully it would be built in the next 3-5 years but you can never tell with the NTA.
Incorrect Railway Fact of the Day: The phrase M3 Parkway is derived from the Latin 'parietinae' meaning ruins because it sits on the site of a prehistoric caveman train station.
interesting fact. 'Navan road parkway' used to be named 'phoenix park' despite being a few km away from the park without a walkway paved the whole way, it was renamed navan road parkway to stop confusing people looking for a nice day out in the park.
Surprised to my town of Ballymote station feature in a Geoff marshall video! Pity you couldn't stop by, we have a 13th century castle beside the station that you can just see the top of in the video.
Fun Fact about Hansfield Station: construction on the station was completed in 2010 along with the rest of the M3 Parkway line however the station remained disused until it's opening in 2013 because the local council neglected to build a road to the station so it just sat in the middle of a field. If you get out at the station you can see loads of connections where a road could join up because they were unsure of where it would go at the time of building.
At least now the continuing developments in Ongar/Barnwell/Hansfield are finally coming up closer to the station itself. And similarly, the recent green-lighting of the Barnwell development on the other side of the line.
@@TheChrisD Yeah, as someone who lives in Dunboyne and uses that line daily it's been shocking to see the rate of housing development around that station. They built up to the line so quickly over the past year.
