- Short documentary about well-known and widely admired Sligo draper John Mullaney. John talks about the history of his store, the original Mullaney Brothers - his father Michael and his uncle Tom - who took over the store in the early 1900's and developed it into one of Sligo's most popular shops. John also shows his famous "booking register" dating from 1914, with the names and addresses of the many Sligo people who came to Mullaney Brothers to book their passage on ships to the New World. Sadly, John passed away just as the film was being completed.
Beautiful tribute to a great gentleman,Sligo will never see his like again.rest in peace John Mullaney
Had the pleasure of wandering into Mullaney Bros in 2018 and being attended to by Mr. Mullaney. He guided me to the perfect flat cap and suggested where I could find more info on my grandfather’s home. A true gentleman.
Great tribute to a true Irish gentleman. I had the pleasure of many long encounters and conversations with John at his shop and he was the finest of gentleman. RIP you legend.
Great tribute to a wonderful gentleman. I chatted with him for a while when we were there on June 29th, 2022. My family left Sligo in 1973, but he remembered my father, and we had a good chat about Sligo back in the old days.
He was a very refined gentleman, and so was his brother Tom. May God bless you both.
What a true gentleman. So sublimely eloquent .
Well done Trevor, as captivating as the man himself.
Thanks. So glad you liked it.
We visited Mullaney's on our trip to Sligo two summers ago. Walking into shops like that can't help but make you stand taller & feel better. It goes without saying that the team were brilliant. 👏
I know Ireland is full of legends and the people of Ireland are legends. RIP Mr Mullaney. Thanks for the beautiful video Trevor ❤

Trevor, what a great tribute to a great man. I only met him twice, he was a gentleman and spoke to me for more than 10 minutes. I felt guilty for taking him away from his business, but he was kind and told me do not worry. He loved talking to customers.

Mr Sligo . Lovely man
My great-grandfather was the contractor and I am so proud that to have that connection to this institution. As a kid my brother's and I walked through Mullaneys and Johnston's and Lyons like they were our version of Disneyland
Yes, I can see how walking through those stores as a kid must've been like walking in Disneyland. And Woolworth's too. Thanks for your comment.
Thank you for this wonderful video which is an amazing tribute to the very special John Mullaney.
Thank you.
Just lovely
Thank you!
Thanks for making this tribute to an old family friend.
Thanks - this is a beautiful video
Great piece of work Trevor, loved it. My grandfather Francis Keane had the agency for the White Star line in his shop in Wine street from the mid 1800's and up to the early 1900's. But alas his book is long gone.
Thank you Ken, really appreciate your comment. So glad you liked it. That's amazing about your grandfather.
