What I have noticed in a countryside community is that you want gossip to travel fast, is to start the sentence with "don't tell anyone about this" 😂
When I was first dipping my toes in the knife community I did meet a couple gate keepers that made me question things, but shortly after I got to become friends with a few really wonderful people that really went out of their way to explain and teach me so much and helped me understand and answered so many questions…what I have found over the years is there are so many amazing people in this community to welcome newcomers…the knife hobby and community is so much more enjoyable to be able to meet new people and make them feel welcome ..take the time to be an ambassador…
Dude I just noticed you and neeves hit 250k at the same time! The knife community is getting HUUUUUGE!! Thank you for your service Sergeant Complex :)
When I sell a knife online, I immediately get like 25 watchers on the item. There are definitely a lot of people into knives these days.
I'm brand new to this knife culture. I appreciate all the jewels you drop on your channel. I've learned a lot from you and a few others in a little bit of time. Thanks for your time in making these videos. I don't feel intimidated by being a so-called newbie.
Congratulations on 250 K amigo, love your channel. Been around the Knife community for about 20 years. Doesn’t make me special at all, I can’t believe how much the community has grown. I think that our community is special although, there are definitely some bad apples throughout the buckets. But for the most part everybody is really pleasant to be around.
Thank you for your perspective. It helps me think my knife collecting addiction isn't as bad as it really is.
It’s hard to believe how much this hobby is evolving. It seems like every day there is something new. My favorite trend is mirror polishing the blades, and upgrading the scales on production knives.
Congrats on the 200 episodes and 250k subs! It's great to see, love the channel.
Hey MC hard to believe there are now 200 episodes of TKG! A common Sunday listening thing during breakfast or lunch. With 250K subscribers comes great responsibility. Hopefully you won't be making a batch of MC Kool-Aid for us to drink. So glad to be part of this community. Thanks for all your great content and amusing takes on things.
Glad to have found your channel - been a follower since last summer, and still know nothing about knives, but now have strong opinions about design, mostly adopted from your content. Thank you, MC!
250k!! Congratulations! I wish I can say I have been supporting you for ages but I’m glad to be here and thanks for all you do for the community; refreshing to have RUclipsrs who actually enjoy their subject and is not just here to peddle crap for a quick buck!
I love your videos so damn much. Your in my ear all day at work then I get home and just switch it and watch you on RUclips. You’re a god send and I’ve learned so much already from you. Looking forward to years of listening. Keep it up man.
I'm definitely guilty of this, but nowadays I'd rather use my information and experience to inform others rather than keep it to myself.
I am so happy you share the same sentiment and can make a video about it to let all the new people know. I would like to believe its a small percentage, so far most of the people I have come across are super nice like the other commenters have mentioned. Keep up the good work!
congratZ on 1/4 mil sir... although i agree with your point in this tkg episode, i kind of wish you used a synonym for gatekeeper
Congratulations on 250k subscribers! You deserve every one, MC!
I’ve been in the music scene so gatekeeping is nothing new to me. What frustrates the hell out of me is knives getting gobbled up before you can get to them and then turn around minutes later and see them being put on eBay. I think scalping is scummy as hell. I’ve even run into people scalping kids toys, which really really makes me angry. I wish more companies would do like tactile is doing with the maverick and use a queue. Then you could just jump in line and wait your turn. If more did that it would cut down on the constant state of frustration of missing drop after drop. They could even take a deposit to keep everything honest. It would even ease the ‘pain’ (I say that tongue in cheek) of having to wait.
I love your rants over protecting newer knife enthusiasts. You’re like Super MC, defender of the less informed ❤
Gatekeeping was a pain in the rear when I was new to building guitars. It is real and everyone should have access to the same knowledge.
You have an IG or YT channel? Would love to see these guitars. My favorite guitars are typically from small shops building them out themselves
Metal you are 100% correct. Ive been trying to get my first Hinderer to ad to my collection but have had no lick for years. I live a very busy life so im practically married to my job. I just can’t get one. Oh well one day I guess.
The Hinderer crowd is so weird.
You're either gonna encounter the most unhelpful, hoarding, price gougers, or people who are more than happy to throw their extra parts at you for free/little money. There's basically no middle ground.
Good luck on your search, they're worth it!
Congratulations brother! Hope you can continue to do what you love because it brings us so many hours of entertainment.
You hit the nail on the head with the hammer on this topic! Keep up the great videos MC
I need a “I respected the blade for 10 years now” voice for a full episode!😂😂😂😂 I just don’t fell like you get appreciated enough for the range of voices you can do!! 🤷🏼🧑💻
Just noticed the 250k. I remember 80k & 100k. After 100k it seems like 250k came quick. Congratulations
I greatly appreciate this video & rant. I’m not a huge knife enthusiast but do enjoy the EDC world. I can completely relate to this conversation in regards to the swimbait & JDM sector of the fishing world. You nailed it, “selfish.”
Wow! Oh man. You are so right. There are different “levels” of collecting. I see that there are people who only buy expensive knives. Only do videos, or post pictures of expensive knives. They act like they are better than you because they only do content on expensive knives. In a way I wish I had the money to only buy rare expensive grail knives. But there is a part of me that knows that a love of knives brings us together regardless of the price of the knife. Knives represent every man
Wait. You're telling me that the time i went in a castle's basement full of people with hoods with candle sticks and ancient tomes, the guy with the different colored robe didn't initiate me to the Knife Elite? what the hell was all that for
Wow! Based on how many other knifetubers I’ve heard reference you I just assumed you’d been knifetubing for a really long time! Congrats! Thanks for the knife therapy.
Great video. Congrats on a huge milestone!
I haven’t watched your videos in a while but I’m glad this is the one I stumbled back on haha a man for the people!
Totally enjoy your videos man, and I learned a new term today.
Thank you for your content.
Great content. Also Knife Guy Nick had what I think is a fairly new kinda rant video. It’s great. He talks about the good, the bad, and the ugly. Congrats on 250. See ya
Been waiting for this since the GAW on Friday. Congrats on 250k! Remember the 25k giveaway and thought that was nuts.
“I’ve been respecting THE BLADE for 10 years” hahahahaha love it!!! The John Wick dudes are so funny. Also hilarious they don’t realize they are basically the same Star Wars and Lord of the Rings masters hahaha
5:50 were you at my initiation? 😂
I think the whole “keeping drops secret” kinda goes with FOMO. I use to feel like I had to buy every single knife when it dropped otherwise I’d never get another chance. Then I joined a few different forums and realized I could pick MOST knives up on the secondary for less (if I’m patient enough).
In a world of Gatekeepers, be a Keymaster 🔑🗝️
🗝 you got the magic key too🎩
Excellent episode. One of the other strange things about this kind of behaviour is that it is ultimately very counterproductive. When we bully, act dismissive, excluding, or otherwise are unkind to new collectors all we do is convince them to leave. And we don't want them to leave we want them to stay. The more people there are into this the more cool knives will be created and the more excellent designers will be able to support themselves. What's best for all of us is a growing thriving community.
Always love your stuff mc
Really liked the message, loved the presentation. I haven't been watching for long and didn't know you did voices.
I have been a Knife lover for the better part of 30 years. I am so glad that I don't use social media. I have no idea what you are talking about.
Just grabbed a Custom Knife Factory Eagle Rock w/ Red Carbon Fiber & S90V. Thanks for the info, I didn't even know they dropped. Idc what they say about you, you're good in my book. 👍
Congrats MC. Pretty amazing you are on 200th ep of TKG and also hit 250k flwrs. Unbelievable.
Not gonna lie, at 7:41, the accent got me and I laughed out loud.
You're alright Metal Complex. You are alright in my book. Please. Never ever change. Thank you for being this way. I wish I could buy you a drink or two buddy.
Thanks for the video….what’s new tell me so I can buy it haha
Congrats on the 250k subs and 200 TKG videos
Good stuff. Disappointed that there isn't a secret ceremony like on Animal House. "Thank you sir, may I have another"😀
I fish custom garage built swimbaits, and some people are like this too for drops on the hard to get stuff. Its like knives. Some sell for 3-4x retail on the secondary market, so people get all mad when more people are aware of the drop
Fellow angler here. The custom swimbait scene is nuts. Seeing guys throwing multi-hundred dollar baits makes me anxious 😂 but I gotta admire it. Meanwhile I’m cringing every time I spend $25 on a megabass vision 110, but I still do it every time
@@AVA787 I throw baits that sell for 500 plus secondary market all day lol. Strong line and constantly checking your line goes a long way. Most retail for 150-300. Only lost 1 over the past 3 years. Still stings
People get very possessive about their hobbies and who they think should be allowed to enjoy the same thing, and they get mad if the new people don't worship them for having gotten into the hobby at some earlier point in time. that is some junior high cafeteria clique BS right there, and i am grateful to you for calling it out with your nuclear megaphone.
I wish I could be part of the experienced knife user/collecter crowd. They must be some special people. I hope this doesn’t have anything to do with LeftyEDC. I loved his channel man. Sad that he’s calling it quits. As for the “in crowd” of the knife community….. GO KICK ROCKS!!! This hobby is for all!!!! Thx MC.
He isn't calling it quits
Thanks MC for taking up for us old and new guys who are not as previliged as others I dont have nothing but this old android phone no computere or tablit just this old phone because I spend every extra $ on knives and I really thank you for the person you are you are a good person MC and I dont know your real name but much thanks to you for all you do for us not just me. KWM
100% correct take
I missed out on a ton of cool shit for a long time because I refused to engage with these groups that I thought were full of goofy, self entitled pricks. Your community/other knife guy channels (not to mention the advanced state of my addiction now lol) have made me realize it was a vocal minority that had kept me away. Since then I've been able to snap up a ton more cool shit - including a full armory worth of Hinderer/Demko knives that I fully blame you for.
I applaud you, and this is why I watch your channel. Thank you, as always.
Congrats MC on 250k been elite fan for many years but just keep that between us !! I also left a selfish thumbs up but don't want community to know .
Ooohhhh I'm telling the community Mark!!! 😂 You left a selfish thumbs up and you have been an elite MC fan for many years! Just Kidding obviously. 😂
@@officerofknafs2947 did I say that out loud?
@@Mridgwell 😂
lolol. SPOT ON!!! i had a dude tell me cuz i just joined the hinderer group on facebook to see why the site was down yesterday that since i only joined that group that day that i dont deserve anything. made me laugh and kindly explained to him i actually live a real life not on social media and buy knives almost weekly but apparently joining a group after a site crash makes me not validated by the hinderer fan boys. of course he had no response to me saying i dont live on social media knife groups like he does. people like that are a big reason i stay far far away from groups on reddit or facebook specifically since they are so bored they sit there and look at knives all day long and that makes them special some how.. CLOWNS!!!
Good for you MC! 👍👍👍👍👍
From the title alone I knew this would be a great episode.
I'm a newbie knife collector and appreciate all your information thanks man
Aw man here I was thinking I was special because the knife wizard council emailed me telling me I could join the council if I passed 7 trials
Congratulations. Great job, great success. What else ?
I've been really into knives for about 4 years now(still new) , and Metal Complex was the first knife channel I subscribed to for content...
Ive learned quite a bit just from this channel.
Still the same person.😆
No matter how long you’ve been in one thing I can’t stand is telling someone not to buy a knife you’ve never even held because you don’t like the company or you watched one video on it really burns me up
Holy crap! 250k already. Congrats man!
Amen brother! 🙏 gate keepers are sad individuals. Thx for being real.
Well ackshully, that thing you described about the basement of a castle - that happened to me. So...
250k qualifies you as the "Key Master", MC 🔑
"There is no Bruce, only Zuul..." 😅
Congratulations and Blessings!
Dude! The mega rant. Funny stuff. Made me laugh a bit.
Hilarious. Thank you so much. Love the egalitarian perspective.
I don't get people like that, there's a few times I found things that i thought people might be interested in and I came here and left it in the comments, my collection isn't anything spectacular but I've been able to get things because of cool people in the community letting us know where they're in stock, don't be a douche and just help each other out
I got my first knife when I was 8. It was just a cheap China knockoff sak with your name on it that you get at giftshops. I would say that I have been in the community for two years though because it took a while for me to discover that there were other people that was knives like I did.
My money spends just as goof as the gate keepers. I came up as a guy who his first knife was a slip joint old timer my papa gave me. I went though a phase of “tacticool” over built flippers, and now I kinda enjoy solid materials. Saving up for my first high end TI frame lock. Just haven’t decided what to get. Plus, the Demko group is super chill and they have a great nontoxic environment, and I bought my first 20.5 from there this week.
Also, can we talk about how ridiculous the mark up on the MSI and manual Stitch from Microtech is second hand? I’m seeing the going at almost double their price and it’s so toxic.
You are definitely top 3 knife channels in my opinion, and you're not 2nd or 3rd,thanks for what you do
Still dying for that frase 😂😂 knife hagwards 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you so much for this rant. Its so true and you may not like this, but its mainly Americans
This is why I love your channel! Keep up the awesome work!
The more people we get into buying these expensive knives, the more they make, the lower the prices (🤞), etc. Plus it makes us look less crazy for spending what we do on what we do haha
Not true. They can only make so many. They are not benchmade
Well said! Not brief. Definitely not brief. But well said.😂
My biggest issue is the predatory buyers that turn around and unload at 150+% table.
Mc there’s nothing special about carrying a knife.
All MC Channel members: but but we raised our swords!
I will say, when I see a drop i want to go after, and then see a bigger social media presence like yourself posting a link, I get a bit disheartened 😆
Massive congratulations and well earned 🔥🔥
I completely agree but one thing I will say though is many of us have dedicated years waiting for certain drops. I know that if it’s a certain company they rotate production and if you miss a drop it may be a year or 2 or 3 before that specific model gets made again. Like titanium hinderer scales. I’ve waited years for certain model scales. I think it’s cool to be a part of a community that may give you insider info. That’s how I scored my last hinderer Jurassic magnacut. I missed the drop and someone gave me some secret info where to find one because they know I collect.
Youre part of the problem. You dont deserve whatever dumbass knife more than ANYONE else.
If anyone deserves to call themselves elite in this community, it’s you. And yet you’re just a humble knife guy. It’s why your channel is so successful 👍🏼
Always a brown noser in the group!
@@bluedemon79 lol I know right ? I call them “Pecker Kissers”
Awesome Job Metal Complex
This just happened to me this week. I joined a lefty group and because I have a learning disability and I misspelt A knife I was ragged on and treated like. I didn't know anything about knives and I didn't deserve to be there. Only one person in this entire group told everyone how disgusting they were acting. And I found it very disheartening on Facebook that this is the way the world is today. They act like when I. Asked if a particular life was? For sale by anyone like? I gotta get in line because I knew my money isn't as good as someone's been there a while. It's sick it really isn't today. It's like we can never escape this gang mentality almost like it's hard wired into us as humans
That’s your typical, crazy lefty.
It doesn't get brought up often (we all love a good circlejerk, after all), but there is as much bad in the knife community as there is good.
This is an inherently materialistic hobby, and in most cases the demand FAR outweighs the supply and thats always gonna bring out the worst in people. Combine that with the general political hive-mind (see directly above this comment) and it guarantees that you're gonna encounter some of the worst that humanity has to offer.
In my experience though, the good ultimately does outweigh the bad. Maybe not in quantity, but definitely in quality.
Absolutely true and I've been collecting for close to 30 years. As a partial Luddite from the analog generation the only social media platform I use is RUclips as it's pretty much replaced the old group meets that used to exist short of larger knife/blade shows. Since you'll get to see new stuff on these channels. This strange mentality from the keyboard commando generation is absolutely confusing to me. Just stay in touch with the OEM's and distributors and they will give you a heads up just like everyone else. This tight-lipped club grab and sell behavior of "elite" online groups is just disturbing and MC you hit the nail on the head. Just buy sell and trade like everyone else doesn't matter if you're new to the hobby or have been doing it for 50 years. If you are more experienced your supposed to take those that are new under your wing and help them to not make the same mistakes you did not think your some kind of "Elite". SMH
Love those groups that make you take a quiz before you can join ….. nope I’m GONE !!
Congrats🎉 you do nice work. (Videos) love the content
I'm on the opposite end of things. When I get into something, I want to get other people into it.
Congrats on 250k! well deserved
good ppl deserve good things thanks MC
Love it! Let me know MC!
I love you.....straight talk
Shoutout to Todd Bentley
Congrats on 250k!
Congrats on the growth and I both agree and disagree with your rant. Yes, people that see themselves as elitist are annoying. But I have been collecting for only 3 or 4 years and I've learned alot from the people who have more experience. Would you want someone who has only played their instrument for a week or two in your orchestra?
The best is when the secret FB groups have their own secret societies within them, but not so secret as you don't know about them, on account of keeping the clout up. The real truth though is that money trumps the supposed honor and ideals, and you'll watch people who have money to throw around be accepted into the inner inner circle very quickly. The more gear you can post, the further you'll go. Fortunately, there are only a couple of these types of crews that actually get drops exclusive to them. Mostly it gets you the bro price on the secondary. There are a couple of awesome groups so join them all and just bail from the lame ones, and remember it is a group about people who like to pay a lot of money for things, not a cult!
Great video today excellent topic 👏
Weird.
The only form of gatekeeper I've seen is:
You're not a "true knife collector " unless you possess a specific model.
I’m def not in the gate keeping community. Def not financially flush enough to own a strider or a Hinderer, demko AD20s or anything like that. However I do see that perspective you’re ranting about. I mean a lot of us have to really really really grind and give up stuff to get the information on drops and finding the info on how to get something highly sought after. I don’t agree with striking ppl down. But I wouldn’t give my younger self a $500 knife of any type or something highly sought after as I honestly wasn’t knowledgeable enough of what I was holding to really appreciate it. I needed to put in time of seeking knowledge and experimenting with what I had and what I wanted and why those things were good vs bad. I think when you come from a place of being able to get crazy shiros, Demkos, Hinderers, customs, striders etc. It’s hard to realize how obsessed we regular people have to be to even get the opportunity to buy one. I will say that I’ve been a huge fan and will continue to be. I just think that maybe you’re coming from a place of being able to get things the rest of us can’t. We don’t have ppl reaching out to us to tell us when drops are. We don’t have a huge amount of fans that love us and want us to review crazy rare stuff. I see what you’re saying but to me it seems like you’re saying this from a position of privilege. A lot of us will never get an opportunity to even hold some of the stuff you have. Just some food for thought MC. If getting this stuff was easy, there would be no difference between a sprint run spyderco and a old timer by scharade. Most of this stuff will stay small number and it seems like outing ppl like this will only make it that much harder for the average joe. I grew up in a knife shop and I haven’t even touched let alone seen in person or held the stuff you reference. I have to pick what I want and give up hours a day to do research when and where I should be to get this stuff. And MAYBE if I’m all logged in and have all my info saved and money in my account available, and MAYBE if my internet is fast enough I’ll be able to get a spyderco sprint run. And that’s just spyderco. Just give it some thought man. Love your stuff MC
☝🤓 Rumor has it, there will be voices
Lol I remember the eagle rock guy 😂 and you know what’s funny those sold out within like 2 days after you posted that video man! 😂😂😂 gotta love the gatekeepers! 😂😂😂 just keep telling everyone about every freaking knife you can! I get so amused at these idiots that get mad about it like it’s some secret! Oh well it is the community we live in… great video and a lot of Great points my friend! 😉
