I really want to get a smock eventually, but I never cut stuff so $175-280 for a fidget toy is a bit much lol. But I’ll probably end up getting one anyways.
@@jpolhamus71 yea I’m not worried about actually cutting stuff with it, but right now I have a Civivi Riffle and I barely use it since I never need to cut stuff open.

As someone who spent hours searching blade forums and asking in knives subreddit about the best fidget knives, I appreciate the hell out of this video! Thanks man.
Shark lock, absolutely agree, dude! I've had my AD20.5 for maybe a month now and I've had nothing else in my pocket since then. I spend a couple hours a day fiddling with it, minimum. At first, it'll give you a sore index fingertip from pulling on that shark fin, but I've built up a callous now and I don't feel anything anymore. Lol.
Speaking of titanium frame locks that fall shut, there’s a knife called the Defcon Agent that almost no one knows about, but the action blew me away. It falls shut effortlessly and is amazing value for the materials and build quality. You might want to check it out!
I just got a Spyderco Amalgam a few weeks ago and I think it's at the top of my fidget knives list right now, even above the Shaman. Moving my finger out of the way for the flipper tab when it's closing isn't any different than doing it for nub on the Shaman; the timing is about the same, maybe slightly sooner for the Amalgam. And I've found that by flipping it with the side of my index finger near the joint instead of with the tip, I don't run into the issue with scraping up against the corner of the compression lock. It also opens a lot more reliably, because I can use more force that way.
A couple other suggestions: Kizer Catshark and Artisan Small Archaeo. Both double detent flippers and crazy figitable, especially the Catshark since it's also an awesome little spydie flicker. And speaking of great spydie flickers, both the GiantMouse ACE Riv and the Kansept Goblin spydie flick as good as any Spyderco, IMHO (and I love my compression locks). And last but not least, the SOG XR locks are loads of fun with the Kiku XR LTE being perhaps my favorite fidget friendly knife. Oh yeah... and did I mention Kizer Catshark?
Feel like you missed one here. I just purchased the SOG Altair XR. Super fidgety. Can’t put the thing down. Such smooth action. Would love to see you review it.
Most fidgety knife I own is the Mini RSK. I have 4 Benchmade (Triage, Osborne, Mini Grip, Grizzly Ridge), 2 Hogue (Deka, Mini RSK), and 2 SOG (D2 and S35VN Terminus XR) Axis-style knives and my god there is nothing like it. It's unbelievably smooth to open and close. The only knife that gets close is the Grizzly Ridge, and it's noticeably heavier and slower to flick. Edit: I had the Triage in a First-Aid bag and took it out for a spin. Holy crap I forgot how GOOD this thing feels. Big, solid, smooth. Heavy but not bulky. Oh man, you can even fidget with the seatbelt cutter!
First I'd like to start with saying how much I enjoy your content Metal Complex. Now that I have that out of the way I would like to discuss a comment you made about the 940 being the most fidgit friendly axis style knife. It may have been a while since you handled the Benchmade Anthem but as far as I'm concerned the Anthem has to be the MOST FIDGET FRIENDLY axis style knife in existence. Please do a review on the Anthem if you haven't already. And if you have, do another one. Thanks for all you do for the knife community!
I think the AD20.5 is great for fidgeting and the secret is the spring-loaded blade that gets sucked into the handle (or your fingers😳) when you release the shark lock. You get a semiautomatic open and close that is so satisfying. To get that action, you have to time the time the lock is pulled to get the most spring.
Kizer Cormorant is ugly as sin but is a knife that I fondle and fidget with the most. It’s hard to put down being a manual folder with a plunge lock and multiple was to deploy the blade.
Great knives for fidgeting!! In addition to the Smock that I have I would like to add a couple other options: the CRKT BT Fighter, and the SOG Pentagon. The BT fighter (Brian Tighe designed) is ridiculously fun to operate and really affordable. The pentagon is pricier but still a lot of fun with decent build quality and action. Great video, thank you!!
@@jkstdstang yeah when I was able to hold one at Smoky Mountain Knife Works, I was sold on it!! I got the black one but the green is really good looking too.
I literally play with my knife as much as........ 😅. This is a year later and they have the Kershaw iridium out, it's so smooth, can you recommend anything better???
Agreed. The AD20.5 is the one that gets the most couch time, followed by my PM3 and Malibu. The AD20.5 got a lot of flack for the AUS10A and grivory scales, which do look cheap but actually feel great in hand. Absolutely zero flex as apposed to something like the FRN on a stock Bugout. Great list #METALCOMPLEX. Keep up the good work.
I actually love the button action knives that have the thumb studs and rear flipper as well sencut has a couple models that are very cool and buget friendly.
I was obsessed with the sumo until it came to light that Hoback was making his knives overseas in china, but refused to stop charging premium top-tier “made in America” pricing. That was super disappointing
The slip joint type knife has not been picked up. In my experience, Kansept weasel and CRKT symmetry are good. Other than slipjoint, one-handed opening and closing of CRKT offbeat 2, which is similar to AD15, is good.
Very good list! If I were to add a couple I would say (although this one is very expensive) the Sandrin Recoil lock, CRKT’s Deadbolt, and even some detent slip joints like the Boker Flipjoint series
So far, my Spyderco and the Kershaws I've had in the past have been my favorite fidget knives lol. Sadly, I've misplaced my Spyderco Tenacious atm, but it was a fun one
I am lucky enough to work from home. I keep almost one of every opening type knife nearby to fidget with. My favorites are the butterfly and the button lock. The butterfly is a trainer. My insurance isn’t that great! I don’t currently have a Spydie PM2 but one is on order. EDIT - If an OTF bugs your significant other, just buy them one of their own!
Have you tried a Buck Marksman? It's a flipper with a thumb hole, but the lock actuates similarly to the scorpion lock on the AD15. It's very unique and fidgety.
Even though I have a personal aversion to buying from fleaBay at over list price, I scored a Demko 20.5 Shark Foot plain-edge for $20 over, just waiting on it to arrive in the mail. I can't WAIT! It's gonna get used fairly hard as my EDC - while my Hogue Deka Wharncliffe will be my lighter-duty dressy knife. It fidgets damn well, too... Incredibly smooth crossbar action.
Loved this video MC! I'm building my Spydie collection and enjoying them very much! I'm try to get some of their best at the moment. So far I've got: DLT PM2 S90V, Bombshell, Manix 2 M390. On the way Shaman Rex45 and Slysz Blowie.
Thank you for this video!!! I googled everything and your vid came up. I really want a fidgety knife so badly SO BADLY. I have cold steel sr1 lite and OKC rat 1…not very fidget-esque. In fact, the rat 1 hurts my thumb when I flick it open. Ugh. So frustrating
You mentioned kansas. Hey man that's cool. I live in the bottom right corner of kansas almost in missouri (bout a 20min drive from me). Just pretty cool to think about. Been watchin your stuff for a long time.
I have sat and fidget with a regular folding knife until the screws and springs came out of it its the only reason in my opinion the butterfly is the king of fidget friendliness but looking for a otf double action that is going to last me under 100
Anyone looking for an impressive budget front flipper should check out the Petrified Fish Beluga. Such a high quality, solidly built full sized knife with crazy action.
Absolutely loving the fidget factor of my AD 20.5 with original goat billet aluminum replacement scales. The snickety sound the knife makes is fun as well. Mine is the knifecenter D2 "sharksfoot" 3 inch blade which is very utilitarian for all my daily cutting tasks at work with plastic strapping and cardboard. 😊
It's modded. It was originally an REC exclusive FDE/OD Shaman. I had some ti flytanium scales sent off to be cerekoted black, and then swapped them out with the old OD scales. Also swapped the clip and backspacer.

Thanks for the mention of the Cold Steel AD-15. I would love to have the Demko model but can't justify the $1500 price tag that that secondary market is bringing. I'll give the CS version a try.
I have a cheap $15 S&W liner lock knife as my gateway drug into knives. I'll probably keep using it as my fidget knife because I'm not afraid to mess up and possibly drop it.
I have a gerber splice that I used to fidget with while studying but I gotta say that it's not that good. I mean when you get used to it's alright to fidget with but the locking springs(or whatever they are called) are so weak they break off after a bit of opening and closing
