Personally, I think the most intuitive way to understand how wings/fins work is as something that deflects the fluid it passes through down. A plane goes up because it pushes air down. A fish goes up for the same reason with water. The tricky part is that part of how wings often do this is that they also cause the fluid that passes over them to deflect downwards, due to things like boundary layer effects. This can all be modeled in pressure but pressure is generally a lot less intuitive for people.

"tubarão ataque perna" yields "good" results. there are pictures and videos of it (warning: gore. do not look it up if you're sensitive). the girl below shows in the image search too. i think uncensored videos are all out of the "regular" web by now, but there used to be some pretty scary footage. a girl lost everything below her left shoulder. shark tore her arm right off. those were both in the same day, btw. if you want you can spend a week looking up other incidents. there's even one where a shark jumped out of the water to get a guy that was parasailing. it wasn't as severe, but the shark managed to server tendons and crush bone on his foot. This can all be modeled in pressure but pressure is generally a lot less intuitive for people.
And race cars go down because the wings push them down. Just that they are usually called spoiler in that context.
Sometimes I wonder how much more educated I could've been if public education made learning even half as fun as this man does. 😂
And that is why he makes school-safe versions now. So that the new generation can be better educated than us.🙂
@@ryuuguu01 Wait, so what you're saying is that testicles, penis and mushy-mushy aren't school safe? /s
@@freechilli8755 I am pretty sure that there are places where parents can sue and get teachers fired for saying mushy-mushy.
Unfortunately learning isn't just learning awesome facts in a comedic format, I wish it was
We all wonder that too!😅❤
If I learned anything today, it’s that I’m not mature at age 43 because I giggled when you said “veiny sack”. Thanks Ze Frank ❤️
I'm forty-seventeen. I giggled. I refuse to grow up.
Nothing wrong with that. Stay a kid at heart. That (and my cats) is the only thing keeping me somewhat sane.
@@englishatheartI am 58, and my 19 year old thinks I have lost it, I laughed so hard, repeatedly. Love all you do, Ze Frank.
So glad that you give credit to the people who created the source material you used and the people who helped do research with you for the video. You’re the best. Keep up the good work ❤.
This guy has quite a knack for being a comedian and an educator, that's quite a rare talent.
He's also a pretty talented singer and guitarist, if you didn't already know. I saw his band in Providence, RI in the mid 90's. Their bassist now plays with Blues Traveler. I had been watching these true facts videos for a while before I realized who he was and had seen him in person years ago
Quite.
one of the best ways to learn , make it funny.
Everyone rememebers : MYTOCHONDRIA ARE THE POWERHOUSE OF THE CELL cause it was turned into a joke
"Sharks live in places where there are sharks."
Education at it's finest! zefrank finally did a video on my favorite animal... this is Nirvana. Thank you!
its
Now that song's stuck in my head. Thanks, Jerry.
In a 15 minute video ZeFrank has given us more info than the last 13years of Shark week 😮
Sharks are my favorite animal, so happy to see an episode on them!

Another complete slay Ze!!!! Thank you so much for starting to make more videos!!! You never disappoint!!!! ❤❤❤
Can’t believe how long I’ve been watching this channel. It’s still amazing. The water park joke, apple bobbing, sharks live where there are sharks, and the ending song all were fantastic.
OMG THANK YOU ZEFRANK for explaining the lift effect properly! I can't take anymore this "the water / the air on this side is faster than..." and scientists know it's wrong for a long time now.
In air it also relies on creating a pressure difference, this doesn't apply in water, which is essentially in-compressible
@constantchaos4433
...???
Yes, water is incompressable, but you can also create pressure differentials in water. This is how pumps, props, and faucets work.
I stumbled upon True Facts just recently. I tried going to sleep and couldn’t because I kept laughing. You make the world smile Ze Frank. Thanks 😊
Islets of langerhans: part of the pancreas, apparently. I had to look it up because it sounded silly, but ZeFrank is very good about not giving me the false impression that something is true when it is.
thank you for taking one for the team and likely having to try to type that a few times before getting the right spelling
Made famous in “My Pancreas” by Weird Al. 😊
They are indeed. Lot of responsibility for insulin.
@@chrisdaignault9845 that's exactly where I learned about it
Now I need a Weird Al / Ze Frank collaboration
Just goes to show sharks aren't the merciless maneaters you see in the movies. They're in fact very interesting!
Also, SHARK POG! (10:50)
Real sharks are more like sea derpsmore then anything and lemon sharks are straight up sea puppies

We are pretty fascinating.
Sharks are less dangerous than cows.
That's media for you, like the way generations of people are convinced lemmings are all suicidal cliff divers.
I love how you still have a sense of humor while promoting the sponsor. As well as, sounding sophisticated and being hilarious at the same time! 👍
I was absolutely terrified of sharks as a kid. But learning more about them has made me realize that I really don't have anything to fear. So thank you, ZeFrank, for giving me some new knowledge of these beautiful creatures. You & Monterey Bay always make my day better.
yeah, not a good mindset. ask those people who gotten their limbs bitten straight off last year here in brazil
@@GraveUypo sharks arent that dangerous stop spreading false info.
@@slimsqde7397 lol google it. a guy lost a giant chunk of his leg just above the knee. you know, like the Apple logo? that kind of chunk, but shark-sized. like two-thirds of the meat in a pretty large chunk of the leg. only the meat shielded by his bone was left connecting the upper part of the leg to the lower part. he had to amputate.
I know you want an award, but don't make it a darwin one. fear what needs to be feared. animals aren't cute and cuddly carebears. they don't joke around. they can kill you in an instant. if they're spotted by someone, get out of the water right away. don't wait for confirmation. that might cost your life.
I love Monterey Bay: one of the most magical places on the planet.
There's a 100% chance of not being attacked by sharks of you don't go in the ocean.
“If you’ve ever been in a water park wave pool, then you know what it’s like to be covered in urine”.
LMAO
this part made me laugh so hard I couldn't hear what he was saying for like 20 seconds
Yea had to pause the video a bit on that one.
I’ve met a kid once that jumped into the pool and immediately peed in it like it’s her designated toilet or something, she was like 12-14 too. This is why I can never swim with too many strangers around especially kids and teenagers
And then he followed it up with, “If you’ve ever bobbed for apples, then you know what it’s like to have a mouthful of other people’s saliva.” 😂
@@mediumsurmoon6283, Don’t they have a dye for that now, so the pool pee-er can be identified?
My Labrador gets out of the pool to pee!
You are amazing and must be protected at all costs!! I don't know how you manage to keep every single video so informative and keep showing more comedic genius every time 😂
Having Brilliant as the sponsor on a shark video seems so perfect to me, because in Danish 'being a shark at something' means to be really good at something.
example "Jerry er en haj til klipning" = Jerry is a shark at editing
Okay, but can we talk about how Frank's outro's are always original bangers!? 😂
I was looking for a link to the song too lol
@@Ben-kg3sg He writes them for these videos himself :)
Love the outro song! They’re always great but this one particularly tickled my dentacles. PLEASE release an album!!
Why do people insist on putting apostrophes where they don't belong? It's "outros." 😛 Also, you don't have to ask permission before talking about something. Just say "Let's/I'm going to talk about how Frank's outros are always original bangers."
Had no idea about the cartilage or the denticles! Thank you so much this was a truly fascinating episode ❤️
Very happy ze Frank returned to RUclips. He was gone for quite a while, and I didn’t expect him back. What a pleasant surprise that was. Keep it up, only so many times I can watch reruns.
I found this channel when he was in the 'gone period'. Initially I was sad thinking there may not be any new amazing videos. When he returned, that was the best time ever
Love your content Ze Frank. Never change your quirky ways! I watch them all, don't skip ads or sponsorships, etc. The shorts are great and the longer content, old and new, is fantastic. I love creepy Dave, Crappy Barbara, the mudskippers, the tardigrades, the byerds, and most of all, Jerry. A-bulba, a-buckety bulba to all.
You forgot "behbehs."
@@katm6 ahh, my bad. I do indeed love behbehs.
The part with the rostrum with the saw fish is so freaking funny. I kept rewatching it and cackling each time, “EN GARDE, WHA WHA WHA WHA” absolutely hilarious

I've been waiting for the Sharks episode for years and in true Ze Frank fashion, it did not disappoint. Another fantastic and informative episode.
Ze Frank needs to make a play list of all their songs. Id buy it. They're all really catchy
The term “science hippies” never gets old. 🤣🤣🤣
It's been a month since Great Ze Frank's last educational post. This post came at such a right time, thank you.

"Look out shark! Everyone walk in a moderate pace in the opposite direction...."I love Ze Frank.
I’d love to see you talk about orcas if you haven’t already
ive heard there was once a true facts dolphins video that was either removed by ze or taken down by youtube, not sure which but some people have mentioned remembering it. never seen it myself though so idk if orcas were included in it or not (since they are also a type of dolphin)
@@JubioHDXI don't remember a Dolphins video.
A dolphin video would be 10-15 minutes of dolphin porn. They surf, eat, and f*ck, not in that order. Ask anyone who works in sonar on a ship.
@@JubioHDXI don't recall there ever being one, but if there were, it may be because some of the earlier true facts were more fun than facts, so maybe it's because of how he evolved the format?

Sharks and rays are wonderful creatures, with lots of wild variations.
Whale sharks are top tier for me, very chill giants with polka dots.
