I read recently that the best training for fitness is totally Separate days between strength training and cardio training. The theory is that doing both on the same day means the same muscle group is working in a different ways too soon after the first and you end up cancelling out each othesr gains. The muscle needs to totally recover before moving on to a different type of exercise.
For a brutal workout, take the stairs to the top. Going down first might be a good warm-up? If I lived there, the stairs would be a weekly routine, or more. So convenient and you get a workout similar to a 3000 meter track race in duration, but it's UP. There is hardly a way to walk up the stair chill. You're going to be panting, you're going to be sweating, your legs are going to be burning. You'll be using the handrail to relieve the legs a bit but it doesn't reduce your heartrate.
