    The Q is special. I think people realize it now that other cameras have come and gone and they're STILL thinking about that old Q. I picked one up at the end of last year and I couldn't be happier. It was used and beat to hell when I got it. Could die any day. When it does, I'll have another one on order before I hit the pillow that night.
    I've fallen for the "special" magic to various lenses and bodies over the year. It never really panned out, outside of a few vintage lenses. The Q changed all that. The images straight out of camera on this thing are just perfect. Plus, zone focus and autofocus in the same single carry kit? YESSIR. Body for life.

      Absolutely agree, thanks for sharing! I haven't used JPGs from it and probably never will, but I hear the colors are really nice. Right? I was zone focusing at F11 for stealthy street shots, then was back in AF a minute later, brilliant design. Thank you for watching and I hope you make many images with your Q for a long time!

      Hey everyone, I need some advice. I currently own a Ricoh GR3x and have been gaining experience in photography for a couple of years. I'm looking for a camera that offers a similar format (fixed lens), full-frame sensor, and unique character like the Ricoh. My attention has been drawn to the Leica Q series. Could you guys suggest whether I should go for the Leica Q, stay with Ricoh or move on to Q2? Also, let's ignore weather sealing, mega-px, etc. Thanks in advance!

    Hey Brian congrats on the Q you can't go wrong with that thing. I had the Q for a short time while my Q2 was away for repair the Q is an awesome camera lens combo, 24mp is more than enough for most needs. When my Q2 came back my gut instinct was to sell it and keep the Q as 47 odd MP is more than I'll ever need, in the end the weather sealing made me sell the Q and keep the Q2, either way I couldn't loose. To be fair to Leica I killed my sensor my stupidity I'd only had the camera for 2 weeks I was gutted, Leica put a new sensor in under good will, absolutely amazing service. All up in took around 3 months return. Not a fan of presets to be honest I don't even use them for my own edits, I do each Image individually to taste, a bit slower I guess but I'm pretty fast editing anyway. All the best with that gorgeous Q.

      Hey Paul, thanks for watching! Was the sensor problem the only issue your Q2 had? What did you do to render it inoperable? Glad to hear you had a great time with both the Q/Q2, I think these older models get overlooked a lot of the time, nothing wrong with lower MP counts in today’s world. I live in the rainy PNW and wanted the Q2 for its sealing and higher MP but after thinking long and hard I always seem to dodge the rain and knew 24MP is plenty for my use. Enjoy your Q2 🤙🏻

    There is only one company that seems to be holding its own: Canon. I own a Fujifilm X100S which I purchased new in 2014. Last year, I decided it needed a sensor cleanup, and I also wanted to take the opportunity to have the display replaced, because there was a small scratch on it. Display was still fully functional.
    I called the Fujifilm repair center in New-Jersey, explained what the problem was, they told me to fill in the form and send the camera.
    I sent the Camera, with the filled form as instructed. One week after, I received the camera, with a note: Camera out of warranty, no spares, return to sender.
    I was surprised since the form I filled in did not exclude any year of model.
    I will continue shooting the X100S, and I will upgrade with a Q3, not with a X100VI. Fujifilm clearly does not care about supporting their product. Now that the X100 series is successful, they don't even need to make an effort.
    No more Fujifilm for me!

      @@jkroemer2685I own a Canon 5DMarkIII with plenty of glass. I specialize in food photography, so I have T&S lenses. However, I like to go to shows. Some of the shows I go to want you to register as a photographer is you don't come with fixed lens cameras. I did not want to pay for the photographer fees when my photos are just personal. This is why I purchased the X100S at the time. But I am ready for a Leica Q too.

    Excellent video bro. I had a Q2 for a few months but sold it in a panic during the pandemic. I didn't even really get to know it, give it a name or understand the power it possessed. God I miss it so much. I may double back and get another Q2 or I may opt for the Q, depends on my budget and the prices. Thanks for this informative video.

    I owned the Q as my first Leica camera too! Then sold it for Q2 cause of the weather sealed and AF. Love both of it. Now just getting started to get into the M rangefinder!

      Cant go wrong with the Q or Q2! The weather sealing is a huge factor for a lot of people. I wish mine had it but Im really careful so decided I could make due without. For sure eyeing a Q3 as the workhorse for the wet times with the rest of my kit and keeping my Q1 to continue using as my daily carry and light setup. M system is amazing. Highly recommend it as a compliment to your Q2. I have a M lens video coming as well as a “full kit” overview, and a review on the M240 is already on the channel if any of that proves useful as you research that system.

    • @madebyjovan
      @madebyjovan 7 месяцев назад

      Not sure if this helps, I saw articles online saying that you could use gaffer to tape over the "holes" on the Q to prevent dust from seeping in. I tried on my Q before and gave me more confidence to bring it out during light drizzle. I had the M240 before too. Wasn't to my liking cause of the WB issue and it wasn't as good for shooting in dim environment. I sold off and recently gotten the M10. So far I'm enjoying it haha@@brianatkinsphotography

      Glad to hear you’ve had a decent experience so far. What was the issue? If they gave you a rough turnaround time my bet is they will follow through based on my experience, but it does differ from case to case supposedly. They were right on the dot and had the camera back in the turnaround window for the first service.

    I have a Q typ 116 and was considering an M240 so I can play with the lenses. The thing is, it's so similar to a Q and arguably not as convenient as the Q. Can you comment on how the two fit as a pair? I have an Olympus Pen-F with a bunch of lenses so I have a bunch of kit to sell to make it happen financially. But i'm just not sure that if I had the m240 + Q that i'd actually choose the M240 over the Q. Any help appreciated.

      For me it is having one manual focus camera and one autofocus camera that are very similar in operation. When I need the width/af I grab the q, when I do not need either then its the 240.

    Nice video. My questions is, since I do understand the concept of an every day camera and of “simpler” setup, do you guys use SOOC images on the Q system? Because from what I have seen, it seems that I don’t see much people saying those love the jpg from a Q or all of them do post processing (jpg or raw). And that’s one of the reasons that I, in spite that I do love the Q concept, I do also recognize that I do love Fujifilm film simulation for images SOOC.

      @@Racsophoto thanks! I only shoot raw and havent tried jpgs. I have seen some people shoot jpgs off all 3 Q series models but I think most photographers tend to shoot raw and then edit.

    • @brianatkinsphotography
      @brianatkinsphotography  7 месяцев назад

      Thanks 🫶 it was basically $700 total, that was a little bit of fees from the local shop, the custom leather, and the actual repair. Repair was about $500, $250-ish for the leather, and then local shop fees remainder. I didnt get a loaner but we did not request one, pretty confident they would have sent one out but I had my m240/m6 to tide me over.

    • @brianatkinsphotography
      @brianatkinsphotography  4 месяца назад +2

      I think total was around $750, $500 for the lens repair, $250 for the skin change. If you check their site it should list the color options and price. If you dont need your camera repaired you can reach out to cameraleather.com for a skin, or try hugostudio.com as well. Then you can DIY it or have a local repair shop do it, price should be a fraction of the cost if you go that route.

      Bummer, but all is well now and it’s still running? Was it the evf de-lamination where it has kind of a clear smear? Or the evf totally died? I was going to mention that as a known issue but felt it was out of context since I did not experience it and there is plenty of reports online.

      Fixed and serviced by Leica, zero issues since
      I have a Q2 and I shoot it in b&w and I can see dead pixels in the evf... I sense another $600 and another trip to Germany will happen soon ... but it (again is second hand) a little knocked about from the pervious owner but generally fine
