Aside from the mustangs crashing into crowd jokes, glad to see a new series like this. Especially that they are 6 speed manuals as well
Watching them in person was a whole other experience, they sound good on video but omg it just doesn’t do these cars justice, they sound absolutely incredible, especially coming in through the bus stop
It was fun to see a pack of Mustangs go by the CrowdStrike banners hahahaha

45 mins and not even two full green laps of racing. This is a rough start of a new series.
Brightside, no way race 2 can be worse.
All three races ended under full course yellow. The NASCAR fans next to me were whining up a storm.
Except that it’s 5 AM my time.
I understand why they uploaded it, but I think this one could have been skipped lol.

I'm watching from New Zealand I love the IMSA channel its one of my favorite racing channels I live watching all the difference series my favorite series is the Porsche series and the lambo series untill the mustang series started now these are my #1 favourite series to watch I've been watching since 2022 and I'm loving every minute of every race, THANK YOU IMSA

I've randomly found that racing channel of the hot wheels and I got to tell you it's addicting as hell to watch.
Add in the detailed tracks, perfect camera angles, and really funny commentary .

These cars in person are so cool to watch and im glad the driver is ok, that crash was intense. Im gonna say he bumped the throttle. The backend twisted before sending into the runoff.

Ridiculous Challenge 2024
This is track, not field. We're not here for gymnastics! 😂 Happy that buddy walked away from that though.
Pretty sure gymnastics takes place indoors and on mats, not on fields.
Long jump, high jump, pole vault, shot put, discus...field events.
@@codymoe4986 pretty sure that the artistic license taken for comedic effect wasn't a huge stretch, especially since high jumping is something of a gymastic skill. in strict pedantic terms, you are correct. Here's a gold star that you can print out and pin to your shirt. 🌟🤣
So never heard of a RED Flag at WG? Bring them in, fix the track, give them at least 10 minutes to race.
I have no idea why they didn’t red flag it. They do that in every other racing series.
They have 3 other support series running this weekend so schedules are somewhat tight. Now why they couldn’t just tell the teams they are gonna redo the race in the evening is beyond me though. We shall see tomorrow morning if they can get more running
@@codileger4876 or they could schedule the races so that there is some leeway between races just in case of things like this. What happens if this had happened on the last lap? Took them well over a 1/2 hour to fix it. Cancel the next race scheduled for the day?
This isn't the only series racing at Watkins Glen this weekend...would you propose that they push every other race back an hour, including the main heats?

Was looking forward to this race then, disappointment. Crash at the start, not so bad. But that second crash was a hard hit. I was glad to see the driver exit the car okay.

Throttle had to stick! Right?
Either that or brake fail because looks like the car's suspension didn't dip at the front in the braking zone. But also sounded like stuck throttle. Imagine having both at the same time, that would scare the shizzle out of me
@alexcarolan8825 good catch. Yeah maybe he was riding the brakes during yellow to keep heat in the tires and cooked the brakes.
Disappointed that this first race was essentially a wreckfest. That was a hard hit, I heard that all the way up behind turn 10 on the fence.
IMSA needs to look at how they handle the race clock after the Porsche Montreal race, as well as this. I'd be very surprised if they have only one hour (pre-race and then the race itself) to run rather than at least two hours. Could've potentially red-flagged, removed the car, fix the tyre barrier, and gone back racing with no time loss.

Should’ve just red flagged the start and rerun the whole race. “Cicero’s body language said he had no idea what happened”… Pretty clear he went in way too hot, and completely locked up the brakes.

Definitely the front rows fault. They came around the corner to the green at a decent pace then drastically slowed and then it was bumper cars accordion affect all the way back. In some series they would penalize you for jumping/slowing the start.
This series taking the place of Super Trofeo at Road America. Fans getting ripped off on.
These cars were not ready for this stuff. All the control arms breaking and now the stuck throttle. Sheshhhhh

That's exactly what I think, ot brake failure because it looks like the nose never dropped yet he was on the brakes.
Why didn't they red flag the race after the 2nd FCY to fit the safety barriers.
The clock does not stop in IMSA race sessions when a race is red flagged.

I'm gonna miss the Shelby GT-350s. These Mustangs don't have the character.
Before I watched: "Well, at least this is a race that Ford can win."
After I watched: "The pace car darn near led every lap."
Nate Cicero's crash was weird. Either the throttle stuck open, or the brakes completely failed. I've never heard of a throttle sticking open on a modern fuel injected car. If the throttle stuck open the car might have swerved going into the braking zone as the driver tried to overcome the engine with the brakes. If the throttle sticks open, the driver can just push in the clutch and let the rev limiter catch the engine. Then he can brake the car to a safe speed to get off the track. It didn't look to me like the car slowed down at all, so I'm guessing complete brake failure.
I can just hear the race director at the driver's meeting for the next race: "OK you knuckleheads straighten up and drive like you're professionals."
Mustang Challenge drivers: "But Mustang drivers gotta do what Mustang drivers do."
Very unnerving to see he cant get out of the car if that side is blocked. What if a fire breaks out?
That starting crash was pure skill issues, but I guess it’s pay to play drivers in this kind of cup, it’d be hard to attract as many teams with a higher licence level requirement on the series.
Hey Ford… maybe just make a product we WANT, instead of forcing the Mach e on us and a severely overweight euro sports car that has nothing to do with a “pony car”…
These Mustang races have been a bit of a horror show. 🤣
The strategy to this race series is getting to the front in the first 60 seconds, and then staying there for the remaining time as they drive through the yellow flag as no one can pass you.
Safest mustang drivers:
That was a big hit and no safety crews after all that time? What if there had been a fire? Gotta do better than that because that was ridiculous.
It's a new series. In future races maybe IMSA will double the safety crews when the Mustangs come out.

There are multiple races/sessions for other racing series that are taking place on the same day, so events have to adhere to a strict schedule

Those mustangs are nice cars.. get some drivers that can drive.. this was a parade.. how many green flag laps?

Not an embarrassment when there’s a freak accident like Cicero’s. Can’t race with a busted tyre barrier, there was no other option
@@blueboy1543 there was a certain flagv that could have been used the RED FLAG so the marshals can repair the tyre wall without cars going around them
Last 2 weeks have really sucked with races under caution 🤦🏻♂️
@blueboy1543 they had a team of 14 people the equipment etc. And still didn't get the barrier fixed safety team standing around doing nothing to assist. They could have had 10mins of racing. But decided to follow "protocol" and not step up

20:02 Wondered if his throttle stuck? Looked like he went in at speed. Announcer says something about driver error in heel toe driving... dunno but he was def on the brakes but accelerating at the same time
Heel-toe downshifting doesn't require more than a 1/4" throttle blip for 1/2 a second while the clutch pedal is depressed. It doesn't even come close to propelling the car forward like that car was going. The announcer was all wet for even bringing it up.

Time constraints probably. There’s more than their races this weekend, including the practice sessions for the Weathertech series, plus the other support series.

a ticket worth to pay..never heard about Red flag? How can you get a 2.5 laps race and 38 minutes of Yellow flag? after 20 second of the last incident, if they were smart they was having to Red flag it. Everyone knows you need to set back the protections to go to green. I came here to see useless cars crashng and I got to see just 2...annoying..🤣🤣🤣
