I don’t know if that during Harry’s trial, when the actor had taken very short pauses was intentional or if she was just remembering her lines, but it made the scene all the much better, like Umbridge was trying to hold in her anger and keep her calm and well mannered guise up.

Umbridge: "it seems that you are questioning my authority in my classroom, *takes a step up* Minerva McGonagall: "Not at all, DOLORES" *steps up as well* Man, McGonagall gives no shits
Let's just give Imelda Staunton her props. It is HARD to be so good at a villainous role that you literally feel yourself HATING the character. Umbridge is the rare character that truly transferred from the page to the screen perfectly and her portrayal was the reason why. She was incredible with that syrupy sweet EVIL that lurked within.
Agreed! Imelda is easily the best actress in the HP series. And that's saying a lot, considering how many brilliant actors are in this series. She plays Umbridge like she just sprung to life from the books, exactly how I imagined her.
She deserves much worse than Azkaban... *Umbridge, the Earth King has invited you to Lake Laogai* Even the ACTRESS who played Umbridge, Imelda Staunton, hates the character. She said the most difficult scene to do was the "I must not tell lies" scene because she actually felt bad. And yes, she did slap Harry
2 things. First, "dolor" is "pain" in latin, so "dolores" actually means "pains". Second, Imelda Staunton rocked the hell out of that part. Felt like the character had jumped right from inside the pages.
Dolores is a Spanish name meaning Sadness or woeful. Umbridge comes from the term "to take umbridge of something" which means to take offence. So her name literally means "sad/woeful/painful offence". Dang
It’s not a height insecurity it’s about power - she puts herself above her by stepping higher than her that was the intention and Mc Gonagall stepped back closer to the students as a gesture after saying „disloyalty“ to show her stand (not following Dolores)
the fact umbridge literally asks harry how he'd be attack cause he is a 'child' (1:40) is mental af because hes literally the boy who lived on top of voldemort trying to kill him all of his life lmfao
There was literally a giant snake trying to kill students, death eaters attacking the World Quitich tournament, hell I think the general public still believes Sirius is out to kill Harry. And this all happened in the past few years.
She's been a major character in one movie/book, hasn't killed anyone and yet the whole fandom collectively agrees she's the spawn of satan😭 the actress who played dolores is honestly so talented for making all of us get annoyed of dolores lol
I don't agree she's worse than Voldemort. I think it just seems that way because she's done so many bad things but doesn't get punished because she has connections to protect her.
@@justincummings8557 you know he attacked him (as Quirrell) several times in Sorcerer's/Philosopher's stone. And it wasn't that he cared about his education, he was afraid of Dumbledore and up until the end of Order he didn't want the ministry to know he was back, because you can see he clearly didn't care about attacking anybody shortly after Dumbledore's death, hence the short reign of Scrimgeor and the attack at Bill and Fleur's wedding.
That is a little unfair on Satan what did he do? I don't think even he wants to be in league with her but joking aside the actress does do a really good job no matter how many times I see her portrayal the hate is always there for the character
When she whipped out that measuring tape with flitwick my anger skyrocketed. I couldnt stand her character in the books or movies. The actress did a magnificent job. I commend her
that was movie only tho in the book Umbridge showed no sign of scorn for Flitwick at all (as mentioned by the twins when their Charms class was inspected), only Hagrid (as well as Firenze, and though prior to PoA employment, Lupin (mentioned in OoTP)
@@justincummings8557 yeah but in books nowehere about professor flitwick part goblin was mentioned. I doubt even his height was mentioned. Truthfully until I saw HP1 in the movies, I don't even know he was supposed to be part goblin.
Funny thing is, the person who plays her is perfectly nice irl. It really shows her acting ability to make you absolutely hate her character so so much.
I heard that her friend called her to say she would be perfect for the part of Umbridge and so she read it and when the description of "small, squat, ugly, toadlike" came up she was like "thanks a lot" 😭 her friend basically called her toadlike and ugly without calling her toadlike and ugly
The whole “Dementors are controlled by the Ministry” stuff she talks about makes her sound like one of those U.S. Conspiracy theorists saying that Pigeons are controlled by the CIA
It's the other way around, this character embodies the type that falsely shuts down conspiracy "theorists", like the one in the story about the main antagonist returning.

Fun fact: there’s an encyclopedia of magical animals from the entire Wizarding World, in which, a dark wizard tried to cast patronus to scare off another patronus, but the patronus became measles that ate the wizard instead, so for some odd reason, Dolores ISN’T A DARK WIZARD???
@@NortherrorZaGod then id say umbridge was an evil person but not an evil wizard, she liked the notions of authority, order and discipline but wasn't actually someone who would find joy being part of voldemort's team, i think it's more of a mental problem she had going on that would explain her personality, after all killing *is* a big thing

Joffrey Baratheon.
I don’t know if that during Harry’s trial, when the actor had taken very short pauses was intentional or if she was just remembering her lines, but it made the scene all the much better, like Umbridge was trying to hold in her anger and keep her calm and well mannered guise up.
Especially since she had to keep her secret, which isn't mentioned in the film at all.

Dolores is a Spanish name meaning Sadness or woeful. Umbridge comes from the term "to take umbridge of something" which means to take offence. So her name literally means "sad/woeful/painful offence". Dang
