Beautiful fish at a epic spot. Looking at buying an entry level gun, any recommendations? Just need the gun and a new snorkel and I'll be set to head out
I really rate Rob Allen guns. My favourite gun is my single band 90cm but it can be a bit more challenging shooting fish with it when the vis is good. For a single all rounder gun you might be best getting a 110cm or 100cm
@@enneract would my height and reach be a factor? Cause I'm just short of 2 meters tall and have a relatively good reach. Or is that not really a factor
Yeah man no trouble, the single rubber gun is just a little 90cm and it's my go to gun. Sometimes I switch to my 120cm double rubber gun when the vis is better (like I did this day). But if you're using a small gun I think the trick is to keep your shaft sharp and make sure you're close enough before you pull the trigger (which is easier the dirtier the water is).
@@slackadave boarfish hang out further north and we don't really get them here in Wellington. In saying that, over the years a couple have been shot at Kapiti so there's some hope of shooting one here!
Jeez man, impressive everything in the video 👌🤙 Thanks for showing a side of the capital city seldom seen.
Horse moki! The ones we get up here are usually pretty big but that one is a beast!!!
Yeah I think on average you guys get bigger moki, but the massive ones seem to be down here (and further south)
Nice one. I love it in the spring when those schools of big moki turn up
Nice brother, what a Goliath Moki!! You were patient with shot selection on that one🙌🙌🙌
Hey man those are some pretty big fish there. Nice seeing you still doing spearfishing and diving.
Yeah, more than ever! I don't dive with Nick anymore though, you probably heard he lives in Dubai now and gets to enjoy 30C water haha.
How deep do you usually go?
Amazing vid mate, what's your breath hold time? Seems like you can stay down there forever :)
wicked bro i hope to be diving like this one day lol
Cheers man!

hey bro mean vid...just wondering how u find shooting kingis with just 1 rubber. does the shaft seem to penetrate easy enough

Great fish there, I normally go surfcasting but really want to go spearfishing
Where is this?
This is Wellington's west coast, near Makara. If you're looking at getting into spearfishing, most areas in Wellington are great.
@@enneract Makara for the win🤙
How deep were you diving there?
was also wondering this. Looks like an awesome spot to dive, sandy reef edge. you get any boarfish down there?
The sand was about 19-20m
