  • Today we took the 45 minute drive to Newstead Abbey, situated in Newstead Village, Nottingham. The drive to Newstead Abbey took us through pleasant countryside, once we'd made our way off the ring road.
Newstead Abbey was home to Lord Byron, an English poet, who loved living in the house and surrounding gardens.
We paid £6 to park our car for the day, then £12 per adult entrance fee into the house itself. Children enter free with paying adults. Newstead Abbey has a history going back some 800 years, and there's lots to see and do as you take the walk along the corridors and rooms of this gorgeous house.
After we had finished exploring the house we took a walk through the many gardens here at Newstead Abbey, stopping off at the children's playpark on our way to the Japanese water gardens. The water gardens are so relaxing, leaving you calm and relaxed once you've finished ambling around the paths.
Finally we walked along the large central lake that dominates the grounds, and up to the waterfall to stand behind it as the water cascades downwards, which you'll see at the end of the video.
Overall a great day, despite the weather being very hot the day we visited. Newstead Abbey will be somewhere we'll return to I'm sure.
