  • 5 things you may not know about Newstead Abbey. If you've never visited then I heartily suggest a trip to this ancestral home of the famous poet - Lord Byron.
Suitable for almost everyone. The location has disabled parking, toilets, and a cafe. Many of the paths are flat, and suitable for wheelchairs, or pushchairs. It is also popular with cyclists - who visit, or pass through.
Wildlife is abundant - plenty of wildfowl on the lakes. Look out for the peacocks. I've seen common lizards. There are white clawed crayfish in the lakes - though I haven't seen these.
The gardens are stunning, particularly the Japanese gardens - within which there are a number of beautiful waterfalls.
Whether you're here as someone who already loves Newstead Abbey, or someone planning a visit - thank you for watching, and enjoy your visit to Newstead Abbey.
Note that I am not affiliated in any way with Newstead Abbey, I simply live locally and I love to visit.

Been here as a kid. Was there again once about 10 years ago and then 5 years ago. Now going to live close by so plan to return again soon. Great Video 📹

Lovely to see and discovered a couple of things such as the fountain that I don’t think I’d discovered - good memories of visiting here with family.

Can anyone remember (I’m going back 40 yrs or more) open journals that you could read belonging to Byron?

I have a recollection of visiting Newstead Abbey many years ago. What's on my mind is that if I'm recalling things correctly we visited an apartment within the building where someone my family knew was living, possibly 1970s. Am I misremembering or are there apartments within it?

      Hi Tony,
I think you could well be right, I believe it has been occupied within recent decades. The next time that I'm there, I'll ask a member of staff for you. It's a long time since I've paid for a tour of the interior - so I'm planning to do that once we return to normal times.

@@MrWhitby Thanks. You know I can't recall who the couple was who we went to see. May have been family or friends of my mum and dad. It was your video that made me realise that I had vague memories of the place back when I was a teenager.
