1:17:47 I think Peter Williamson is severely overlooked these days. His contributions to motor racing are unforgettable in this very race alone he achieved so much. Nineth place OUTRIGHT in a two liter four cylinder (while commentating) That alone tells a story in itself. He had me on the edge of my seat, maybe even standing at the time. Brocky, what can a bloke say? Magnificent win but I will always love the old multi class production car race. Thank you for showing it. R.I.P. to both Peters, you were legends in your own time. 1:45 And to another Peter, Peter Janson who got into racing quite late in life (as far as racing drivers go). Brilliant job mate
1979 was a good for 🕺 dancing at the disco. The Holden Toranas with a box shaped car design. They were like the German Opels back then. They had an Opel engine I think?.
@@gavinwj7923 I'd hazard a guess it would have been quickly forgot back in the day...but with social media now - there would be a number out there who would be taking the piss out of, and a number who would feel sorry for, like what Someguy said.
@The_Jaguar_ Knight I'm guessing it was pretty well known within his inner circle ... the dust up with his best mate over it was kind of Pinnacle to the story ( I get it was a dramatisation of actual events ) so yeah like you pointed out about him being dead 💭 I doubt they would have pulled it out of the script writer arse from no where just to shit on perfect peter fine reputation ... bev was the only one of the three who didn't get a floggin i think you'll find .. & that was from bev's own mouth so theirs that I spose aye
Peter Brock is God, so said the T-shirt of that bloke at Bathurst in 1979, shown in the Bill Tuckey book 'Australia's Greatest Motor Race The Complete History" 1981
1000 k's going as fast as you can, just to get a car home to me is a win at Bathurst. I'd be rapt just to finish, even if I was 30 or more laps off the winner. The thought of a Bathurst model Gemini, that makes me giggle.
“Are you happy with the performance you’ve given today?” The sarcasm is dripping from that question 😂😂 - well I’ve bent the suspension, so I don’t think Alan is happy with me, but yeah we are in second place 🤦♂️
Good old moffat ever the try hard still fogging the outdated ford donkeys. He still hadn’t got the memo from 78 at sandown and Bathurst that the XC was a dinosaur. 60s suspension design overrated 351s the most detonated engine at Bathurst rubbish brakes floating up and down on the straights chewed tyres. First 8 cars over the line A9X toranas the first ford 25th. An absolute DECIMATION of ford. The Torana was by FAR a superior car and it took until 1983 to equal its lap times at Bathurst. Brock Richards won by 6 laps and Brock was fastest in Friday practice won the hardies heroes shootout and broke the lap record on the last lap on worn Tyres. Never late in a 308..
Moffat Ford Dealer Team, decimated the A9X in 77 and got 1-2 in doing it, also the only team in history to get 1-2 at Bathurst and 1-2 in the touring car championship in the same year, The Torana come back the next year with a special hot rod that cams helped out their sorry arses after the previous years flogging, the car wasn’t even homologated, with the required 400 to be sold to the public, a few special purpose built from GMH they were so illegal they come with a template showing where to cut the hole in the floor for the gear shift, these things had a massive hand up from cams, and the same year Ford pulled out all backing, the Ford was 4 seconds slower than the previous year, hollow victory to the Torana, to easy.
@@TheSuzukik5 you ford ladies still flogging that 1 2 garbage finish where Moffat told bond to SLOW down to form up for the cameras. Moffat was a whining cheat who was banned for 6 weeks for using illegal roller rockers at sandown after repeatedly begging ford to homoligat them on the unreliable hand grenade XCs of which both were mercilessly thrashed by even back marker privateer A9Xs with less HP but MASSIVELY superior brakes and handling. Both Moffat and bonds cars retired as an omen of what was about to occur at Bathurst. He used an ILLEGAL 6 speed in his shit box Mazda at sandown and Bathurst in order to ATTEMPT too keep up with the V8 s top end speed and after years of denying it finally came clean. In 77 the Torana the A9X was STILL a superior package needing more development and once 78 came along the ford outdated donkey brigade didn’t have a hope. Even as a road car the XC was an outdated pile of crap. Keep waving that 1 2 fake finish flag old cock. Moffat and was repayed in spades when ford abandoned him after years of on his knees service.

nah only the normal ones had the opel in it. The big V8s had a chev engine
No, the A9X Torana was powered by the Holden designed and built 308 V8 engine in something similar to L34 spec.
Thanks so much for this.
30:30 I feel so bad for that dude. Economaki realized he was having a mental breakdown and took over for him.
What we call anxiety today . I think being on T.V freaked him out

I feel for that Beudgestone fella that stuff isn't fun, I've had it all my life! Great professional Chris Economacki ( RIP ) to take up and help out!
If they did a 12 hr Bathurst all those holdens would break down😂
Probably best to ask brockys battered partners how nervous he got ....

@The_Jaguar_ Knight I believe it was an RPM interview after it aired on television !
Great driver but a pretty ordinary human. . .

Mate I'm a Ford man but I could watch Brocky all day every day.
Bill Tuckey's Bathurst books are beautifully written epics. I treasure mine all from 79-89.

Commentator...how many times have we had a Brock and Moffat race...then it was pointed out that Brock was four laps in front!!!!!@
And ended up 6 laps in front then broke the lap record on the last lap on worn Tyres
