Let’s Chop the Frame & Install a High Clearance, Offroad Bumper!

- This is an upgrade i should have done years ago! However, frame chop bumpers might not be for everyone. Make sure to take a look at the pros and cons of it though. Hopefully by the end of this video you will see what all goes into installing a super high clearance bumper like this one.
We also have to take a look at how to modify the Rockjock antirock brackets to work with a bumper that mounts in the same location.
This is a great bumper for those of you looking to increase your offroad capabilities with just a "cut and bot on" bumper kit!

Dewalt 60v reciprocating saw is super powerful and I use it to cut firewood all the time when too lazy to fire up the chainsaw. Haha
But the Milwaukee recip saw is what started it all, it is the OG recip saw, it has to be the best.

Just recently switched up my bumper setup to stubby front and frame chop rear. Went with motobilt and absolutely love the new set up! The Barnes looks great!!!

I had to modify my Antirock brackets on mine. My OrFab rear bumper is beefy AF, the mounting bracket for it that goes under the antirock is 1/2" plate. So I had to not only remove the entire piece on that bracket but had to shave some of the bushing as well to get the clearance. I spoke to Currie before doing it and all worked well.

I cannot believe Barnes discontinued this bumper. They're coming out with a DIY kit for it, but no ETA.

Looks great Ben, I'd paint the body sump under the tailgate and under the rear body armor flat black too. Is that spray paint designed to stick to metal without any primer?
Yes, it’s a direct to metal paint. Seems to be pretty good so far

I had a poison spyder that has to be welded on. My jeep jk got totaled last week and I am planning on getting a JL with the money I am getting back from the insurance. Hopefully they make this frame chop bumper for the JL.

I swapped away from the Motobilt a while ago. Wanted a bumper without a spare tire cutout and lighter weight, the old bumpers were pretty heavy

Ben why would you go though all that install? Just weld it to the frame. Love the videos! Keep them coming.
If you're followed Ben long, you'll notice that he has switched things up a bit, often. Welding makes a bit more work when swapping parts

hey... love the videos. been with you from the start...learned a ton what I can do in my own driveway myself... my question is, you have been out of Alaska for a long time now, why keep jeep registered there? In my communist state of NY, one day over 6 months, you are considered a resident and have to register vehicles with NYSDMV

100% the spare will catch on obstacles.
I have a 10 inch stretch on my 2 door. 8 in the back and 2 in the front.
hey ben, i was thinking about buying this bumper but my jeep has impact damage on the passenger side of the rear crossmember. so now my passenger side rail is slightly bowed inwards a full inch. do you think i'd be able to install this if i used a metal shim or spacer between the barnes mounting bracket and frame rail?
I'll buy the old Barnes bumper if your looking to sell it. Currently running no bumper on my JKU in the rear.

Would there be concerns with the bumper radiating heat if you run the exhaust through it?
No, there would be a tiny gap. Plus by the time it gets all the way back there it’s not too hot

Use 2 bumper holes on each side for the exhaust, no hole size change 👍🏼
The hemi's need at least 3" to sound good. 2.5" is way too small especially for a 5.7 or 6.2/4
You should do the front frame chop before to stretch to finish out the look and approach angle..
He's already chopped the front just not as short as some do.
Instructions unclear. Ended up with a 12” rear stretch
