I bought the pedal a short while ago and although as you say it is very versatile, it unfortunately does not do the main thing I had hoped: that of a “transparent“ low gain drive. It quickly gets fuzzy and compressed and I’m finding it kind of hard to dial in, although I haven’t spent that much time with it. Comments and tips very welcome.

I bought the pedal recently and as you say it is very versatile. However, I’ve been unable to get the low gain “transparent“ overdrive sound which was my main goal. It quickly gets fuzzy and compressed and hard to dial in. Comments and tips very welcome. Thanks.

I hate to tell you this but if the goal is transparency, then a preamp pedal is not something that is even advertised as being so. They all tend to color the sound and if they don't , then they aren't very good, because that exactly how they are supposed to behave. Look into a Greer Light speed, Oddfellow Bishop, or a Jackson Audio Golden Boy. Not all of those are being currently made, but on the used market you can probably find the Oddfellow at the best price.
