In a previous video we looked at building and using PicoMemcard, an open source project from developer dangiu which emulates an original PlayStation memory card using a Raspberry Pi Pico or RP2040-Zero board. However we're revisiting the project this time around to build out PicoMemcard+, still based on the original project, but this time supercharged with microSD card functionality and controller mappings! PicoMemcard+ shatters the limitation of a single Memory Card image being stored at a time by allowing virtually an infinite amount of Memory Card storage. PicoMemcard+ also allows for button combinations which allow you to select which Memory Card image to mount, and create new Memory Card images on the fly!

Pico boards are awesome. I used them to mod my switches and my GameCube. I dream of a new release to use it as a PS2 Modchip.
The Pico is legendary!
This is neat, I already own a MemCardPro but if I was looking for a project or wanted to save a few $, I'd definitely go this route.
You'll always have a place in my subs Mario from all your soft mod videos.
Thanks for hanging out!
Features I'd like to see on it would be
PS2 support so we can save PS2 game saves on them as well.
Add 3 buttons to the PCB itself and allow those buttons to increase, decrease, or create a new card.
Add a 7 segment display or tiny OLED display that shows what card you have selected.
sd2psx project seems further along, has ps2 support and lcd screen, cost is similar too
That's a cool one to see coming along.
that sounds deadly
Does it have MagicGate functionality? So many times my bootleg cards can't save because of that.
@@friedzombie4 yes, i believe so, can do free mcboot which i think requires magicgate
@@seanami8701that's not 100% correct, I'm able to run FMCB on my Chinese 128MB stick but some apps bug out. Thankfully OPL isn't one of them.
this is amazing!
I would love one of these if it worked on the PS2 as well and had a 3D printed case that looked like a larger original card.
That is really cool! I have been wondering is it possible to build a memory card yourself. I wish to see more DIY hardware projects like this in the future.
I welcome them all!
I think I need to start getting into these pico tools. I've already got a MemCard Pro (had to disable wifi to make it use less power and work on my PS1 multitap), but it looks like these can be used for a lot.
Interesting, I did not know that would interfere with the multitap!
@@MrMario2011 When I ordered the MemCard Pro the site made it clear it had issues getting enough power on both the PS2 slim and the PS3 memory card adapter, but I only found out about the multitap sharing the same compatibility issue when I tried it myself That makes certain games like Crash Team Racing more or less "incompatible" in practice. I talked to the developer and they indicated all I'd need to do is turn off wifi. That turns out to be the biggest power draw. It worked, but I'm hoping there's eventually a config.ini file on the thing to manually adjust settings without the wifi feature. Heck, even granting the ODEs full access so I can change settings and manage all the save file pages from that instead would work.
Do you plan on Covering the SD2PSX in a future video?
Any chance this is working towards PS2+FCMB compatibility? Wouldn't it be neat if we could have a smart memcard which swapped between virtual memory banks. Book with the FCMB bank, then swap into an emulated memcard...
This project is only for PS1 compatibility.
Easy to do firmware updates on those pre built chinese ones? Bought one, did not arrived yet. Also, I've opened an issue on the project gh page, asking for xstation integration, and the xstation dev itself showed up on discussion saying that's possible. It will be cool.
Let's hope it gets that! As for firmware updates on the pre-built ones, I have no idea since I've never used those.
@@MrMario2011 It has a hole for bootsel next to the usb port.
I have one of the Bitfunx versions. As the previous commenter said, there's a pinhole for holding down to update but with that said, out of the box it has v1.0.2 but when I tried the v1.0.3 Pre Release it didn't work, no LEDs nothing. I didn't brick it or anything, was able to roll back to v1.0.2. So I'm scratching that off as a bug considering it's not a final fw.
I wish the RP2040 Zero version was layout swapped. With the SD slot on the side, and the RP2040 Zero's USB port on the end, it'd be much closer to the shape of the original memory card.
That would be cool!
I assume the unpopulated buttons on the PCB will be used to change memory cards in a future update?
Gotta wait and see what the dev implements!
I would love to see some update/project/fork that would allow to automatictly create and load memory card, based of the sku of the game (like SLUS-00922)
Just a heads up the ps2 memory card support isn't in it YET. It's coming!
Is it?
Sounds like you're mixing this up with another project?
Cute dog
Just hangin' out, chillin', nbd 🥰🤗
where to buy PicoMemcard? also it support for JPN region console?
Region does not matter.
I wonder of these will work with the ps3 memory card adapter?
I don't see why it wouldn't! You just won't be able to use any of the controller shortcuts, but in theory as long as it can interface with a PS1 memory card then it should work.
@MrMario2011 I hope one day someone will make these pre-assembled to buy. Also thank you for your videos to help make our consoles do so much more and how to set it up..
can you buy these already made up ?
Not that I know of.
thats a shame ive had a stroke so lost my soldering skills .shame they dont sell them for people that cant make them up
what happen to lcd screen?
Not sure what you mean?
@@MrMario2011 never mine i was reading to fast i thought this one has a lcd screen like sd2psx
I want one of these so bad but i got no soldering skill whatsoever lol
It's a good starter soldering project!
cool I no longer have ps1 I don't know what i did to it before I moved to new home over month ago
Always time to get a new one!
@@MrMario2011 I saw one other day I end of getting ps4 I been wanting get ps4 for long time
Imagine you can go back in time and tell some one over this video ;)
21:47 your sure its about soldering and nothing else?? It sounds so wrong and yes is have a drity mind.
Solder gone NSFW

PCBWay prices are really high.
Ordering in quantity helps, plus the quality is nice. Several folks I know of usually go with PCBWay for their final designs due to the quality.
Yeah, 5$ a board is really expensive...
@@Nomnivore7531 you are in dream land it's far from $5 per board (may be that price if you buy 100 or 1000)
5 boards was close to $70 this doesnt even include taxes.
