  • ►This week on the Yippie Cayenne build, Ben takes us through his impromptu trip to Colorado for Gridlife. After the suspension and exterior upgrades were installed at Eurowise Performance and the Cayenne passed its first test through the Uwharrie National Forrest, the big pig drove back north to FCP Euro HQ in Connecticut for its last few modifications. Yeah, that’s right, there was still more to do-including some Baja Design LP6's and LP4's, a Thule rooftop tent and awning, and a few other bits and bobs. What’s an off-road SUV without some proper lights, right? While Ben and Mike were chipping away at installing the last few bits and setting up a photoshoot, they received a phone call that would end with a plan to send the Cayenne out to Colorado for the #GRIDLIFE Alpine Horizon festival.

Man shout out to those off roaders with the recovery. Love when car people come together regardless of the car. This should be a good eye opener to those wanting to hop on the overland hype. Simplicity is key. A $100k luxury suv thats worth $10k still has the intricacies of a $100k suv

No doubt having such a complex car in some very complex situations does not lead to an easy way out! That said like you mentioned its all about getting out there and enjoying your car with a community that has each others backs!

Watching a group of strangers out that much effort in to help someone is a lovely sight

Truly what the car community is about! Humbling experience all around for us.

Man don’t beat your self up. Every one trashes something at least once 4 wheeling. It’s how you learn your limits and it’s when you meet the super cool community of other off roaders.

Finding the limit is certainly one way to figure out - but honestly worth the experience all around. Memories for the team and people we meet alike!

I've drowned more cars than I care to remember..... many. Funniest was attempting an approach to a glacier, in winter, after heavy rain...... the approach is 27km..... 16 miles of rock hopping up a constantly changing braided river, the flow at full flood is over a mile wide, when it's dryish it's 6-7 streams, glacier fed, cold motherfuckers, winter or summer, it's meltwater. It was midwinter in the South Island of New Zealand, cold as a witches tit.... there had been rain, an attempt at this was somewhat foolish. We had made 7-8 crossings uneventfully, wading deep. Three up in the rig, miles from help, end of the day..... all of our shit was in the rig. The last crossing I hit a hole, water up to the wipers, truck at a serious angle. Everything went quiet, I thought the fire was out, looked down and the tachometer was resting 750rpm. Hit reverse, it just popped out onto a shingle bank, sat there idling, water pouring out of the chassis rails..... 1996 Gen3 Toyota Hilux Surf or 4Runner as they call them in the states....you never need another car..... cheers from NZ..... oh, go US Army!

So what trail were you on in Colorado that gave you the chance to meet some army guys?

I have found the off-roading community to be very inclusive of any kind of vehicle out on the trails as opposed to RUclips poster trolls. It’s not Jeep vs Toyota etc when you are in the dirt. Rather, its people together regardless of vehicle (except maybe some SxS youngsters). Big difference even from weekend racers on track days.
