Awesome.....Just tried a couple of short practices in my Office.... Nothing broken joyfully....the iron sits normally into that position...OMG thank's mate...off to the range tomorrow Night to give it a bash.
This has happened to me a number of times. I do what you were just teaching, but I thought I must be doing something wrong, but it works. Thanks. I noticed 5 iron through 3 iron. I can't turn the club in quite as much. Another eg. I swing between 1 and 2 O'clock I only found that it is right as well. I draw the ball because of both these things. Thanks for this. Now I can fully commit to this, knowing it's right 😊
Just got back from the range and tried this. I definitely see what you’re going for here. When I was able to make flush contact with this swing (adjusting it for the open club face) it felt good. I am going to be curious to see if I can continue to replicate the swing when I try to increase the speed.
This has validated everything I’ve been intuitively working on my last few SIM sessions. Strong grip, and attacking the ball. I just can’t get the inside out swing yet. Hitting them very straight though.
perfect timing for this video, i literally just started doing this randomly the other day and it works for me. the club weight naturally sits down. i picture the club as a hockey stick curving around the ball. May not work for everyone but definitely did for me. Haven't had the same success with hybrids or woods doing this though. Only works for irons for me
The real key here, what makes this effective teaching, is the focus on feel. So much easier to recognize what feeling you are looking for than what positions you are trying to achieve
Hi Ali, Thanks for giving hope and knowledge to golf wannabes like me. I did notice that when you closed down the club, your swing speed increased by c 4+mph. Why did this occur? Thanks
This is how i actually PLAY golf. Im a smaller guy 5’7”-155lbs. I can swing shorter with a stronger grip and really mash the ball straight. I had this conversation with a friend not long ago. He acted like it was “covering up a swing flaw somewhere”. Your thoughts? If you look at impact im in a square position. I can play w the club square at address but I have to actually THINK about turning or bowing the left wrist down and im usually not fast enough to get it correct consistently. I just dont understand why removing a variable for me is odd or wrong? Ha
so the closed clubface adds distance but goes left and long ! would it be possible to compensate by aiming a tad right in the set up ali ..as long as you maintain the compression at impact ?👍🤔
I've tried a very strong left grip before and yes....if you can rotate through and square up the hands you can get more distance. Similar to what he's doing here. But I always fought a hook as squaring it up was hard to do consistently with the strong grip.
I find when i close the club face down it adds a ton of spin. It also tends to be a lower ball flight that goes a bit left on me. Also i have a hard time hitting my long irons like that.. I don't like adding spin and de lofting my long irons.. It's ok for 6 and above but not 3, 4 and 5.. Just my opinion.. Maybe i'll go try it at the range with my 4 for fun!
This has to be my problem… I tend to play my irons forward, good contact most every time, fairly accurate but not getting the distance I should… and I’m left wondering how pros are hitting PW like 170 yards 😂
All players deloft their clubs at impact, it also helps get low point ahead and control path and clubface. Obviously not important for you, keep up the good work.

One of my favorite RUclips golf coaches. Was considering this approach, but wasn't sure if it was too extreme. Thanks for validating!
Thank you, always go extreme and dial back.

I love your tuition, make sound so common sense and simply, if only lol r&g x

Great short lesson Ali. I will be seeing you soon, need more consistency in my swing... from Den.
Thanks Den, looking forward to seeing you.

Very useful tips….it does give me additional distance….contact is also great. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!

Yes, just depends how much curve and the height of the shots really.

Cool vid. I'll definitely give this a go. I hit decent numbers and I hit straight, but my launch feels too high and not piercing enough.
U are one coach which in saw on RUclips. Talking sense. Nice
Seems like a great drill to get the feel of the hands in front.

Can you show your swing in slow motion?
What iron are you hitting?
Your Club speed went up from 81.0 to 85.3 .

This is MORONIC, Turning a 7 iron into a 5 iron, just use the right club, I would never take a lesson from this GUY.
