I have been to Russia four times now and will be going again in 2021, hopefully. We always fly into Moscow and visit my wifes family , then go to some other cities before flying back out from Moscow. I have visited Moscow, St Petersburg, Veliky Novgorod, Staray Russa, Tula, Tambov, Kotovsk, Serpukhov and Krasnoyarsk. The Russian people ARE warm and friendly even though, to an American, they appear cold and aloof on the streets. All you need to do is speak to a Russian and it is like a light turning on, the personable friendliness comes out. It is true that in commercial meetings such as shopping or being a tourist, there are a great many people everywhere you go including Russia who will treat you better to influence your spending. But so many times in Russia I have experienced kindness and welcome only because the people were simply kind and welcoming. We were in St Petersburg for Victory Day 2018. Three months before that the US had launched air strikes into Syria and had killed around 300 Russian mercenaries in the process. I had my reservations about how I would be received on Russias most patriotic day after that but my concerns were baseless. In a crowd of a million people, not one, that I met was other than friendly. And I was amazed and how clean and orderly everything was. At the end of the fireworks along the river, as the crown melted away there were pyramids of trash where the trash cans were overflowing but nowhere else was there the least litter. And the next morning, the entire city was pristine. I want to be in Moscow for a Victory day, and I really want to see Lake Baikal and Irkutsk. But every little city you go to has its own beautiful places and history. And every town to visit has great Russian food and warm, friendly Russian people.

The metro you were in at 4:38, Славянский Бульвар, was my husband's metro stop when he lived in Moscow! And the lights in the winter are INCREDIBLE. Russians don't celebrate Christmas much at all (and if they do it's in January because it follow the old Julian Calendar), but they go all out for New Year's. I have never seen lights as beautiful as I saw in Moscow in December. I loved watching this. I've been to Moscow a couple of times and I'm going back in just over a month! Your video got me so excited!
You are wrong, we celebrate Christmas, for us it is a religious holiday and we spend it in the church. We celebrate Christmas from January 6 to 7 according to the old calendar, because we are Orthodox Christians.
@@globalpower6967 You seem to have missed the part where I said they don't celebrate MUCH, and added the caveat of it being in January. I'm well aware that, if Russians are religious, then they are typically Russian Orthodox. My husband is baptized Russian Orthodox

Its because in Russia we dont celebrate Xmas that much - its looks like almost ordinary day in Russia. New Year is our equivalent to western countries Xmas celebrations. There will be winter fairytale in every significant sightseen spots, parks and popular places in Moscow, escpecially inside of Sadovoye Kolco (translated as Garden ring, in practice it encircles historical center of Moscow). There will be alot of cultural, historical and sport events, Go check something like "Moscow winter trip" or similar queries in RUclips, for example this ruclips.net/video/su2AfRTKGPU/видео.html or this ruclips.net/video/zEBGL7XsWDA/видео.html and other videos (dated last 4-5 years not eariler, because with new Moscow mayor all celebrations got alot more effort and attention) in russian or english. If you are planning New Year trip, then Moscow and several other Russian cities is best place in the world to be at these days - you will never forget this experience in your whole life. Dont forget - Moscow never sleeps, so daytime experience is one thing and nighttime is another, but both are beautiful in each way. And btw if you need help - ask young ppl they generally speak english and will gladly help you. Older generations cant use english that much, but they still can be helpful, especially if you use google or other translator.
@@HarmonicaGuitar because Russians don't celebrate Western Christmas at December, 25 and do remotely similar things at New Year eve. Orthodox Christmas is January, 7 and this is far more religious and personal and not how you imagine at all. Coming to Moscow at Christmas is coming a week too early or a week late to fun.

I've been to Moscow just a few months later, in autumn 2019. I immediately fell in love with that city. I've been to Paris, London, Barcelona, Florence... and many other places in Europe before, but theres no such place as Moscow. St Petersburg is definitely on the bucket list tho. Hopefully it all calms down soon.

Anton Yakubovskiy,

"babushka" is not diminutive, diminutive would be "babulya".
Gor Mor babushka originated from “baba” so it is a form of diminutive. But you’re right about babulya, it is a nicer way to call your babushka 😄

You have to come to Moscow for New Year, not for Christmas.
Why not?

To change West Coast to any city of Russia is the stupidiest move ever 🤦🏼♀️
