  • Suzuki GSX250R Review, It looks great and it's cheap with low mpg and can be ridden on the A2 motorcycle licence! but it is only 25bhp, In the A2 licence category where you are allowed 48bhp....so is it terrible or has it got some good points?
    Big thanks to Haslemere Motorcycles

      Great bike, as i said to Spicy ive owned Katana 1100, GT550's, etc etc, this little big bike is awesome at handling, you can really throw it about, it wants to lean over, and filters well through traffic with its narrow body.

    The bike looks sharp! I'm glad I started on a lower CC bike, there are people that try to pressure someone to start on a bigger CC bike I didn't listen to them! I don't regret it.

    The reason thay used a 250 was they had a motor all ready made! If they wanted a 300 it would off cost $$. Also this bike is mainly aimed for the asian market where a 250 is as big as a bike beginners can ride and theres more money to be made in that part off the world then the rest combined! It was a smart move in a way as 300cc bike in these asian countries you have to have you're full licence!! P.S if you're squirting id see a doctor about that lol

    I think the 250 is a good choice. Once you have got used to the bike it has the potential to tweak the bike for extra power without it going over the A2 threshold.

    I do wonder if they made the A1 licence valid for 250cc upto ~20bhp and then sorted out the disaster that is retaking your tests per license group (ie for A1>A2) and went with something sensible like progressive training, you might see a niche for these kind of bikes. You could have a really nice progression that promoted learning and gradually moving up power/engine sizes

    I'm planning to get this bike next year. But i'm still confused whether to buy this or the Inazuma (GW250), some of my friends recommend the Kawasaki Z250, i really like touring bike, knowing that this bike is using the Inazuma's engine really makes me happy. Touring machine with sport bike look, which i think is very interesting, and it looks fun to ride! (Greetings from Indonesia)

    If I was gonna get a bike just for economical commuting as a supplement for my fun bike, I would probably get something like this or a cb300f just for something cheap with great mpg. But I would try to find something that was a hold over to even be cheaper. I saw a gw250 for like 2000 something US dollars that was a hold over. Just can’t get more affordable than that other than a scooter

  • @turbo311
    @turbo311 6 лет назад +2

    I get why Suzuki built this bike. It’s explained on their global site and by one of their head engineers. Their reasoning isn’t wrong. That said, they could have done a 300 easily. I think this goes to show how Suzuki think compared to their competitors, or how little money they have to develop new products. This 250 is at the bottom of the class in terms of power and yet is one of the heaviest. Their GSX-R125, at the top of its class, is a far better choice and it’s an A1 bike. Too bad it’s not sold in North America.

    The reason it has a 250cc engine, is because they used the same engine from the Inazuma 250, with little to no modifications.

      mark hill I'd not get a new 125 tbh. They aren't going to be much faster than anything else and your gonna have to pay a lot more.
      I'd buy a used bike for 1 to 1.5k then save the money and spend it either on gear or save it for the next bike.

  • @ndperson1
    @ndperson1 7 лет назад +1

    Yeah, they just used the engine from another bike so it would be cheap, and it is mostly made for Asian markets where 250 is descent sized and in some of them they tend to need to be 250cc or they are way more expensive due to some laws. But hopefully in a few years they will have a bored out version. I actually would like having 125/150, a 250, and a 400cc version. I really wish there were some more 400cc bikes around as I think they are some of the nicer bikes around. I would buy one and I am not limited. They got more oomph than the 250s but are still small and light even compared to the 500s it done right. They are bout perfect all around bikes if made light

  • @ndperson1
    @ndperson1 7 лет назад

    250s and 400s are two of my favorite sizes of bikes. No, the 250 isn't the nicest for an actual freeway, but I honestly don't like riding there much anyway. 55 mph two lane highways are way more fun.

  • @davegeisler7802
    @davegeisler7802 Год назад

    This is designed for more mid range , 15 to 55 mph , its a great learner bike , Ninja 300 and R 3 are high reving and meke way more power up in the rev range.

    Im over in America and love riding the small bikes. Started on a CBR250R, moved to a SV650. I missed the small size and playability of the CBR so i got rid of the SV for a XT225 Dual Sport. Get to play on and off road. The only place i dont feel comfortable is on the Freeway where speeds are over 70mph. Its out of its element at that point. But everything else is fun as hell. Insurance is like $13 a month and gets 70mpg. A small bike is way more entertaining on tight slow roads. Majority of americans thrive on the bigger is better crap. I have more fun throwing a bike around and not worrying about the power. I would only need the power on the freeway.

    • @spicy110
      @spicy110  6 лет назад

      +Kevin Barlage totally agree you would love the English roads it's ribbons of twisty technical corners at 60mph so larger bikes are just a bit of a waste you can use the engine much and are paying a lot more to do so!

      He doesn't actually ride a motorcycle. He's a farmer and drives tractors all day. He takes bikes out for reviews, like this one, and passes them off as his own after he's recorded about 50 videos in a day.
      As for his name, it's order number 110 at his local Chinese take away, and he orders it 'spicy' with extra chilli, and red peppers.

      I agree with Mr 110 all it needs to be a perfect bike in this class is a bit more power and tourque. I think it was a big mistake, bringing a bike to this class so late in the day, it needs to be able to compete on both paper and on the road.

      i personally think this bike had the american market in mind when it was made, it's been made very budget and i think it's trying to be sold over there and in Australia as a good cheap bike to learn on in asia it will probably be sold as a premium bike, it might sell in europe well for A2 if people decide to start riding at A2 age in the uk you must have a CBT to do a test most people will do 2 years on 125 especially A2 riders maybe not so much once you get into the DAS age groups they want that instant gratification and being a A2 rider with lots of A2 friends i just don't think any of them would buy this bike because it's not a big enough step up from your 125 and im very happy with A2 but alot of the guys i know think after 2 years of riding a 125 3 miles a day they''re ready to go jump on a hyabusa

      N-rijder I think he tries and doesn't real that in general he just doesn't like Suzuki's. I think they just are a different taste than he likes. I like how they always seem to try to do more with less and cost less. Honda may do that better, but I tend to find the honda's nice but bland for what I like. I like peaky motors, and Honda usually just makes theirs all smooth, which is great but not my taste

      I also recall he wasn't particularly keen on the VanVan 200 either, citing its lack of power as his main problem. I think that, as Spicy says, riding these lower-powered bikes in the U.S gives you a completely different perspective, as they're really not built for those roads (come to think of it, aren't there, like, barely any 125s on the market over there? Their perspective sure is different).

    I've always wanted a sports bike, but the insurance wouldn't be very cost effective. It's cheaper just to ride the 125cc bike everywhere in first for that authentic high pitched sporty sound until the clutch and engine blows up with a nice backfire popping sound, and then simply replace the engine every few days.
    Seriously though, insurance seems to be a real issue for a lot of new riders. So while the lower Kw in power doesn't peak for A2 license holders, it may be a lot happier in the pocket for them while still maintaining their desire for a GSX bike.
    Also, is this a UK/EU only spec'd bike? It seems other places around the world who don't have to follow the EU directives for license progression may actually prefer to start on a 250/300cc rather than the less capable, and arguably unsafe, 125cc bikes.
    Australia and new Zealand for example, their LAMS authorised learner bikes are up to 250cc/25Kw.

    • @RCFunEveryday
      @RCFunEveryday 7 лет назад +1

      I think we need to employ that same thing for the UK markets, a 300cc/22-25hp limit for CBT riders.
      For people such as myself (a shade over 16st) going uphill and stuff on a 4 stroke 125 is horrible.
      Another issue is when you get some Sunday driver going from a 40 zone into a national speed limit zone and they barely speed up.
      If you're top end is 60 and they're doing 45, you almost need a 5 mile run up to overtake them!
      On something with just a little bit more poke, it would be so much easier and safer.
      In the UK, there doesn't really seem to be much of a market for these 250-300cc range bikes either, especially given they are so under the hp threshold, especially when you can buy a bigger bike, restricted, for 1/4 of the price, then just unrestrict it when you pass your test and it's a full power bike that you are already 100% comfortable with.
      It could have been at least 35hp and the insurance wouldn't have been any higher anyway.

    • @benclimo461
      @benclimo461 7 лет назад +1

      Poo Face isn't 15hp over the 125cc licence though? I thought 14 was max.
      I've got a CBF 125 (11hp) and for me it's has a fair bit of poke and gains speed relatively quickly but that is more likely due to my weight and hight, 5.4 and 6.5 stone, yes I'm incredibly light.

    • @buddybleeyes
      @buddybleeyes 7 лет назад

      Ben climo you would be correct there, it's 14bhp max for provisional or Am licence. I actually agree that the 125cc as a learner legal bike is quite dangerous in places- it's not enough power for 40mph+ roads where even the smallest of cars have atleast 60/70bhp! Enough to make you shit yourself on a daily basis as you can't keep up with traffic flow! They are good for learning, and at this rate the UK is getting slower and slower on the roads now... Bristol is a prime example, if you wanna wear your gearbox out trying to stick to 20mph with speed cameras in- live here 😂😂

    • @Wunel
      @Wunel 7 лет назад

      Simon Johnny
      Just a little correction.
      In Australia, our learner legal bikes go up to around 700c. The MT/FZ-07 for instance, is learner legal here. You still see a lot of 125s in cities because they're used by delivery riders and students commuting, but 250-500 is more common.

    • @RCFunEveryday

      ***** that's fine for those wanting a 2 stroke, I could buy an Aprilia RS125 and do nearly 100... But with how thrashed most of them are it's not viable for everyone plus not everyone likes sports bikes either... I just think it would be so much better and so much safer to have that little bit more power available for when you need it and it would also open the market up a lot as well.

    If Suzuki can get a 300 to 400cc motor into this it's going to be well worth consideration. But with a 250cc it can't compete with the CBR250rr in Asia and it's no match for the Ninja 400 or Yamaha R3 everywhere else.

    Why 250cc?
    What are they buying in the east/south Asians countries? Is that not where Suzuki sells most of its bikes?
    I"m betting Suzuki was more concerned about that than the A2.
    But, hey, if people in the west buy it, maybe that will change. An SVVT version seems intriguing. Or...750 Katana (gasp!).
    I think Suzuki should have designed OEM hard bags for this to set it apart from the other small bikes.

      +Cold19 how can you say it's over priced when some 125cc bikes cost more?

    • @Cold19
      @Cold19 7 лет назад

      Some. There are also some 300cc bikes that cost less. Like the Honda CBR300R at £4000. It's not that big a difference but £300 is still something. The Kawasaki Z250SL is £3650. If I were to get a 125cc I'd probably go for a Honda CB125F at £2800. The Suzuki GSX-R125 is at £4000. From what I've seen Suzuki's in general are overpriced. Yamaha too. I want to start riding on a 125 so I've been looking at prices recently. Out of all the japanese makes, Honda seems to be the most affordable. Or maybe I'm just poor.

    • @benclimo461
      @benclimo461 7 лет назад +1

      Cold19 completely agree and I have a CBF 125 from 2012.
      If you want to save a bit more money then I'd fully say to buy a used bike for 1k. Then save the spare money and when you upgrade spend it on that.
      On 125s they don't really upgrade that much tbh with price increase. I'd say it's a bit of a waste of money buying a new 125.

    its just a shame there is no learning on 250cc laws anymore personally i think intensive training doesn't teach you enough to ride safely but to pass a test its after you pass when you ride yourself where you learn the most e.g. handling speeds of roads having fun safely ect.the power of a 250 isnt that much greater that when you look at 125cc that can hit 90 too and the fact speed isnt built up too fast. hopefully after brexit there will be changes to the licencing system for motorcycles and cars that are more reasonable e.g. learning with a fully licenced pillion or l plates on 250cc as an example. adults don't need babying if they are taking risks to there life its up to them thats why we have age of maturity or age of an adult. You would like to think the financial decisions dictate whether a a teenager rides a high hp sportsbike or sticks with a low power learning bike insurance wise or using advanced rider courses to keep costs down but ofcorse the gov wants a slice of that cake money money money if they could they would charge people £20 to resit driving tests
