      CBT is training. Nobody can fail that.You get the certificate to confirm you attended. Not what skills you have. If you were were not issued your certificate for attending a full days training, you were scammed. Only reason they can refuse to issue certificate would be if you were a danger or were not legally allowed to ride. no license or banned, if using own bike not legal because of tax, mot or insurance.
      PLEASE reveal the training school you attended /scammed by. TRAINING IS NOT A TEST.

    • @Palmit_
      @Palmit_ 3 года назад +1

      @@spicy110 really? CBT is not a test. it's training. If somebody should declare "i failed my CBT" you should check if they were scammed. it seems quite prevalent that new riders believe they can fail. theres o test. theres questions, but if they answer wrong, they should be trained in the answer. they can't fail. there should be no re-dos or extra fees. Help keep scams away. Bi-annual CBT "RENEWAL" itself is already a scam.

    • @SouthwestBlue1
      @SouthwestBlue1 3 года назад +6

      @@Palmit_ CBT is not an attendance course. After instruction/coaching/mentoring by the trainer, the trainee has to demonstrate a level of competence. They cannot move on until they do. If they need to come back to complete then additional charges may apply, there isn't a fixed fee.

    Great and very educational video.What I would like to add is that keeping higher revs on a half of clutch will make you more stable due to gyroscopic effect that the engine gives you. At normal speeds this comes mainly from the wheels, but in slow moving traffic it got to come from the engine.

    As well as using the clutch and throttle to meter power in slow tight turns, another technique that works well is to drag the rear brake against the throttle. This helps keep the bike upright. It might be a bit much for a first timer to get all three down, but it is very helpful, especially with heavier bikes.

    Ugh I'll have to do all of this again for the A category. In the school I was with the 125s were from like the 80s no electric start, the clutch felt like on or off switch and you had to rev the shit out of it to do anything so slow control was hell. On the big bikes slow control was a piece of cake.

    GREAT VIDEO. Slow control is a HUGE part of riding. To me is easy to go on the high way and do 140-160MPH but it was the slow driving that really test my skills. PRO TIP: *** when doing this exercises make sure to ride normal or rest the clutch for a bit since slow riding put lots of pressure/wear into it.***

      Was that when you were doing the figure of 8 and u turn? So if you’re doing the left turn of a figure of 8, open out your left leg a little? Edit: I have a question about the Mod1... When you're doing something like the U turn, does it matter how long you take? Can you just go as slow and steady as you want, or is there like a time limit? Stupid question, I know. I want to do my A2 soon, but I fear that the bike will just be too heavy for me to handle properly.
    I got so paranoid of involuntarily grabbing a fistful of front brake from my first 'crash' (it was at 10mph, completely my fault and no one else was involved) that my "panic" brake is now my rear. Arguably, this isn't even any better.
    As for slow control, I'm not exactly great at it, so I'll definitely go find a nice empty car park and just "slow race" from one side to the other, and then see how slow I can do a turn (and how tight I can get the turn). I've never went full lock when turning at slow speed, as I always felt that if I needed to turn more, I can't and will just fall off. I guess it just comes with experience.

    Using the rear brake and the clutch makes it much more smooth and controlled when slow riding and turn in the road. When ever I tried it with just the clutch it wasnt as easy, when ever my instructor told me to use the rear brake on the turn in the road it was so much easier :) Also we was told sometimes they get you to do a turn in the road on the right hand side of the road just to test you. And the mod 1 was HUGE it was in a massive dedicated tennis court kinda thing. We practiced a lot tighter and when it come to the mod 1 I felt like I had SO much room. On my mod 1 I actually went too fast on the section where you got to get up to 30MPH because I was worried I wouldnt go fast enough, but because I showed I could stop well within the zone, I got off with it because it wasnt stupid fast, just a little faster than they wanted haha. Also a thing to help calm down was my friends who I was training with, chatting over the stuff with the instructor, and the fact that instructors are all bikers, they want you to pass they arent out there to get you. That and you have tonnes of room, And mod 2 is just a nice little ride out :)

    What your doing is finding and staying around the 'bite point' of the clutch... I understand its a tips video... but be mindful not to get into a habit of slipping the clutch too much. If you learn the bite point of the bike, you will learn the 'feel'. Good tip with back brake... you don't want to 'chase' the thing.. just maintain a steady drive the rear wheel (as you say clutch, throttle, and brake).
    The other items I'd add in are forward vision and accelerations sense. In a real word situation... good forward observation helps give you processing time (to work out what you do and what how)... that in turn doesn't create a panic (or limits it) which allows more head space and time... to slow down gently and not have to be in a situation where your stopping often... which leads to your game of slow riding.

  • @duroxkilo
    @duroxkilo 4 года назад

    great video mate, the clutch segment was probably one of the best i've seen... i also enjoyed your game training too.
    a few times every season i go to my fav parking lot and dick around with slow speed maneuvers for an hour or so, it relaxes me :}
    one thing i would add to slow speed turning is that the body position on the bike can help a lot. counterbalancing the bike's lean with the body's weight can make the turning radius even smaller..
    be safe, have fun!

    Cheers Spicy I'll be trying these, I already do the balancing at the lights sometimes. But never thought about the riding circles that get smaller ect. The only worry I have is going from being able to control the weight of a 125 to 500-650cc bike,when in motion I've been told you don't notice it but the low speed stuff worries me that I'll end up not being strong enough and dropping it.

    Got my mod one on Monday. Shitting myself to be honest. The U turn was my most feared manouvre but the actual space you get is huge. The only thing I struggled with was the figure 8 but hopefully looking at the cones for the pivot point will help.

    Nice video! Where I’m from you fail the test if you constant hold rear brake while going slow. Puts stress on the bike. Only use when needed they say. Forces you to be more precise with gas/clutch.

    Thanks for the video Spicy110. When do you recommend somebody takes their Mod1? I've only riding for a couple of weeks on a 125, and I'm finding I'm picking things up very quickly. I'm cautiously confident that I could pass already. Also, does it make much of a difference on a bigger bike, as up until now 125 is the highest I've ridden. Thanks :)

    I'm only one class away from the A-class driving exam and I still struggle a tad with the figure 8.
    I seem to do great on left-side turning but when I have to switch around to the right side I almost fell like my body says it's not going to happen.
    Today I've done more than half of them properly.
    I wish I could drive a bike outside driving school to practice it into perfection, but regulations in my country (Portugal) do not allow non-licensed riders on the road outside the scope of a driving class or exam, even if they have a diving student certificate.
    Some subtle changes allowing driving students to practice on specific times/places should exist in order to breed better prepared and more competent beginner riders.
    What's your thought on this?

    Tools like this should be used as part of CBT/training generally. Having the first person view, in addition to being told what to do is very useful. Particularly for a complete beginner as they are also thinking about controlling the bike. I think that watching a first person video of someone doing the exercise, with an overlay to show what they should be looking at, would be a good as they don't need to think about controlling the bike.

    what are your thoughts on having to redo the mod.1 and 2 when going from a restricted A2 to full unrestricted licence? After riding non stop in all weathers for over 2 years I honestly do not see the point in having to redo the mod 1 and in some cases (depending on what bike and how it was restricted) redoing the mod 2....

      yeah and then what if you fail either of the tests because you are nervous or maybe even tired but usually ride perfectly fine. Someone's riding ability and safety awareness should be judged over a whole day or at least 2 or 3 hours not 2 short tests in which you could make an uncharacteristic error

    I think one of the things that makes MOD1 easier than the CBT is definitely the fact the bike has loads more power when compared to a 125. That sounds scary but once you get your head around the clutch (which, if you've been riding a geard 125 for 2 years, should be easy) and realise that as long as you keep the revs consistent the bike kinda just putters along. That, and bigger bikes have bigger tyres so you can lean it over more if need be. It's all about trusting the bike and having faith in your instructor

    • @spicy110
      @spicy110  4 года назад +1

      Just one this I will correct larger tyres don't allow you to lean more. Nicked this off the webs as it states it nicely. A bike with a wider tire will have to lean more to achieve the same corner speed, because the actual point where the tire is touching the ground is farther away from the theoretical point.

    Great video. How does this relate to the change off cc from 125 to 650 for the UK tests?? 650 sounds like a monster!! 😜

    • @spicy110
      @spicy110  5 месяцев назад +1

      It's easier as the engine need not be working so hard and the clutches tend to have more control to them.

    Keep practising using these tips but now failed three MOD1 tests on the bounce due to putting my foot down (going to slow). First fail U turn, second fail figure of 8 and the last was at the end of the slalom. In training I can do everything perfectly yet come to my test and everything goes to pot. Got a shiny new CBR500R in the garage that I still can’t ride. Any tips for coping with test day nerves? Each time I feel like I’m getting worse due to being so desperate to pass. My next test is coming up soon and now I’m worried that I’ll even screw the manual handling up!

    How much carry over would this have from a 125 to a big bike? I'm riding an XVS 125 cruiser but I'll be doing my Mod1 on an SV650, I'm guessing that good practice on the cruiser will be worth it? (Mainly because it's a cruiser and a total slag to turn at slow speed)

    • @HalfdeadRider
      @HalfdeadRider 7 лет назад

      It will be tougher on a cruiser than other 125's so do what you can on it, I've heard the bigger bikes are much easier than 125's in general too and you will get plenty of time to get used to the SV650 then practice for Mod1.

    Using the clutch prevents the stall. Can you try something more difficult? Shifting to gear 2 and then not touching the clutch within a short 1.5m distance and doing a sharp 90 degree turn into a crank course?

    Thanx buddy for this helpful video,. But i hav a doubt. Won't the clutch plates get burned? I mean by slightly applying the clutch lever and revving at the same time?

    • @spicy110
      @spicy110  6 лет назад +1

      No that's how a clutch works. Also this is about learning to ride, once you can do it you won't drag the clutch so much.
