I just discovered this awesome video last night. I went today on long twisty road and kind of improved. The line of sight correction helping me. I am working on being less panicky. My mind and hand keep fighting. I am trying to be smooth and apply correct line. My fear outside is other cars being close from other side. My biggest enemy is my mind constantly planting doubt whenever I feel comfortable and in sync. Will continue to practice as I have done for many years in the twisty roads.
Thank you so much for this video. It really helped me to think better of my lines. The struggle goes on to improve.
Funny thing- I start saying maintenance throttle during my ride in my head.

Let me start by saying the Play by Play is excellent: shift, brake, head, body, bike. And I like how you are taking note of those spots you describe as needing special consideration (ie. dirt in the road, tight turn with uneven pavement). I do this all the time on the near-country lanes around my house. I understand you're demonstrating, but I do _narrate to myself_ in a similar manner. Almost like giving myself commands for want to work on during my "lap" rides. I just don't ride at your level. I do have one concern. Since I'm not there IRL I can't tell what the condition of the roadway is like, but I stopped the video several times looking at the shoulders. They are narrow and immediately transition to dirt, rocks and overhanging trees. These conditions concern me, because I would think that at any time rocks and debris could be in the roadway hidden in the mottled tree shadows (ie. 08:53). Your eyes might be dilated from the sunny side, then through this shadowed gap. Or, when you might be looking into a turn, and riding outside and under these these rock-slide potential areas (04:37, 04:44). And yet the road also appears amazingly clear. Are you also driving a street sweeper? haha. Seriously though, do you ride the road very chill first to check out the condition of the roadway, and maybe stop to clear (or just remember those spots)? Or something else? Not for nothing--I really appreciate your common sense and your MotoJitsu Motto: shut-up and practice.

I’ve watched several vids, enjoyed & learned a lot & subscribed today.
One of the best parts of this vid to me (there were many) was giving yourself a pass on some corners, making it ok to go through at a nice, controllable pace. I love motorcycle riding & it’s supposed to be a fun, enjoyable experience & above all else safe, which the rider controls. I will ride aggressively but never even close to my ability because I like being relaxed.

Great stuff. Would like to learn more about your strategy for using trail braking, when to start applying the brakes before the turn, when to start coming off the brake as you begin to turn. And only using front brake? Are you using two fingers to brake? The msf class instruction for setting up for a turn was just tap both brakes to slow down prior to the turn. Trail braking was not even mentioned. Thanks for making these on the bike riding videos. #1 RUclips motorcycle instructor!

"the road doesn't dictate...I choose my own line"..love it! That is the way I ride and others think you need to draw a straight line always...I see opportunities across the road for position and angle...yes, give yourself a pass and pick the turns you want to push on, and enjoy the ride so as not to 'compete' on every single turn...wouldn't you agree? Great work and thanks for the videos!

Thank you thank you thank you! This is exactly what I needed to see! I've been practicing and practicing my jitsu, and have hit my local roads, but I'm still often confused on the best application of line. I've read Lee Parks' book and I also have extensive seat time in race cars, I understand "line" but I still find myself 50-penceing from not having the confidence on the moto to use the whole road available to me like I would do in my auto. There's a fav canyon road I have run in my car for years, I know all the braking zones and turn radii, that's helped a bunch but I'm still not sure I'm choosing well. Seeing the practical application like this on my kind of environment really gives me a much better sense of how to setup the entrance and the maintenance. Again, thank you!

If you’re 50 pencing, that’s caused by your vision going back and forth.

@@MotoJitsu maybe i'm not using the right terms? it's not mid-line corrections, I'm not having to correct my lines once turning, it's more like i do not like being near the fogline outside on lefts to start the turn. i'm afraid of the marbles and shit towards the outside, then i end up drifting mid outside and starting from there. funny enough, i don't do this on right hand turns and am less freaked out by the yellows and oncoming traffic, so it's some sort of target... anxiety? im not fixating on anything in particular but i feel like it's in the same vein. watching this and seeing more of your left-hand turn set-up and maintenance was a great example.
Edit: found chapter 16 in twist of the wrist about target fixation to the inside, looks like I have some riding approaches I need to address! Thank you for the vision tip, I will humbly re-evaluate my vision so I can progress.

Hey Fast Eddie, This is exactly the video I needed to watch. Just last Saturday, I was riding through the Royal National Park New South Wales, Australia. Throughout the ride, I was leaning a lot at bends to limits of my ability. So, I was well into a left-hander (uphill) and then I truly don't remember how it all unfolded. I know I wasn't over-speeding but gently accelerating uphill as the better part of the curve was behind me. Then, suddenly my bike started wobbling uncontrollably. For the life of me, I can't remember what happened just before that moment. The bike must've slid a little causing me to panic and grab my handlebars tighter which then opened up the throttle. Then I must've grabbed the front brake. Next thing I know, the bike flipped over, high-sided and caused me to land on my head and my right shoulder. My mind must've blanked out because all I remember when I came to was groaning and feeling greatly embarrassed. The pain then hit me... intense pain in right foot... dunno if part of the bike landed on my foot. As I came to, I panicked and dragged myself to the other side of the road. I was very lucky... there were no other vehicles on either side of the road at that moment. If a car had been on the other side of the road, I wouldn't be here commenting. The car coming downhill would've been too close and fast for the driver to react in time; for sure the car would've run me over. Lessons Learnt: Never ride to the limits of your abilities on a public road; learn about your tyres and their capabilities ( I have commuter tyres on my bike CB500XA and was trying to lean as if riding a sports bike); practise in a closed off practise area - track day or advanced courses; and most importantly, watch Fast Eddie's videos, take notes and practise, practise, practise! Anyways, Thanks Eddie for all your work, mate! Cheers from Australia.

That appeared to be really slow but that's just testament to your line selection and smooth control lol. Awesome stuff. I'm loving your videos, which are inspiring me to think about the nuances of riding and challenging some ideas I always believed, such as pulling away and turning at the same time. I bought and read Total Control and am looking out for slow and high-speed control courses for this year. You guys don't know how lucky you are to have near empty parking lots in the USA, here in the UK they're always busy except late at night when they're often locked or patrolled by security to keep the boy racers away.

Using this method giving yourself a commentary is a real good way of improving your riding because when you give yourself a commentary it can have the effect of reducing your speed so you CAN actually give yourself that commentary and highlight your own shortcomings and give you that lightbulb moment. The trick with doing it is to be looking WAY AHEAD at that next corner, that next kink in the road that jct off to the side. It's easy to forget to check whats behind in your mirrors when you first start doing it.
The police riders instruction manual ROADCRAFT can be a very useful text for UK riders explaining 'the limit point or vanishing point in the corners and distance. 👍😉

about 16:20 you talk about gearing and engine braking. I've been trying to practice trail braking and 90% of the time, engine braking has been enough to slow me down into the corner. I was thinking 'damn thesse guys must be FLYING into these corners...". I'm gonna try going up a gear to lessen the effect of the engine braking.

Hi, I was wondering if you have any tips or perhaps you could make a video on the best way to ride on roads where freeways (or highways) corner or curve with a "super-elevation" which banks a significant inclination on a sharp curve so that vehicles don't have to slow down? It can be pretty nerve racking for beginners.
