You know if you tell the people who build the tree grinders "If you set up a demo unit, and show it off, maybe I can find someone willing to buy my smaller unit, then I can upgrade, you can take my smaller unit back to the factory for a small rebuild, then sell it to that customer". Making it possible to upgrade at a lower overall cost to you! And in the meantime, you can demo their stuff, and grid up a bucketload of mulch for this spring! And if you decide not to buy the larger equipment, blame them for processing your trees much faster than you can bring in new wood to grind. If you can grind up a week's worth of trees in only 3 days 7 hours long, then the machine is way to large for your operation! At least you can get the peak spring mulch ground up in a week or two!
I occasionally stumble upon your channel. A tub grinder would definitely save some time. Plus they are supposed to eject(a pro and a con) incompatible materials such as metal so whole pallets and other things are (supposedly) no problem. At least here in nc, you can use untreated wood(pallets etc) for mulch. Only 2 cons are they cant eat super long things that well since it'll just fall out and they are a little bit more dangerous because they eject material but I assume you already know this.
my friend owns a tree removal company and he just got his 2nd tub grinder for making mulch they are well worth the money it produces a very consistent mulch. he can put in logs that size whole and stumps but he lets the stumps sit a while so the rain washes away a lot of the dirt though they do cost a pretty penny I think he said the newest one he bought was just under 2 million though he needed the capacity as he is taking all the cities tree trimmings for the lowest rate around in exchange for a juicy tax break
With all the recycling you do, I am surprised that you are not running a sawmill. Some of that stuff you were splitting look like decent saw logs. It seems there'd be more money in lumber than mulch - even as routgh cut pallet stock. And you could still chip & mulch the slabs and bark, and probably the sawdust too. Nice operation!
That log splitter operator is is very good at what he does. That is gonna make some serious mulch. Love that mulching operation. Fascinating is what I say.
That drill is one heck of a outfit, it definitely does the job but that's a lot of firewood somebody could've had. That will save you all a lot of time and work, have a good one!
The fire suppression systems I am familiar with from DAFO for buses. The battery needs to be replaced and the system checked once a year, the trigger (small blastingcap) changed every 5 years and the tank and nitrogentank every 10 years
Just discovered your channel. I see the meta in the rotochopper was some time ago, but it only just popped up in my video list. I use a srew on my 3 ton excavator and have split some 3ft dia trunks, however its not fast, but much faster than sawing into rings.
You're lucky to live and work in an area that supports your sustainable type of operation. Here in the People's Republic of Washington, the state Department of Labor & Industries would use your video as evidence to try to get a court order to shut you down - without even giving you the courtesy of due process.

I've really appreciated the other videos that I've watched of yours too. In particular I shared the coffee composting project with a good friend of mine. I'm from Central California and I enjoy seeing all the different technologies you are using to make use of everything that comes into your site and I'm also enjoying seeing you guys turn scrap into useful machines.
That is a great platform to work on the giant dozer. The factory guy will be happy to see that, and not need to work on his back all day! I wonder if you have recently been power washing the radiators? I know someone who had a overheating RV and the guy power washed the radiator, intercooler and transmission coolers, it ran much cooler for 3 years! I used to work for Long Beach CA, and they would have to service the fire systems every 2 years, and wanted to change out the fire extinguishing stuff after about 4 years, so the old stuff gets packed into the container pretty well by then. My buddy who lived 15 miles west of Victorville CA, on a country road, built his mailbox support from 4" steel. Did not sink it 4 feet deep though, only about 6" in the sand. The supports where 4" steel, going three ways, 3 feet long each direction. The pickup that hit it, ended up in the air! And I think one of the pipes went into the engine? The guy had to get a tow truck to lift the front of the truck off of his mailbox support. Funny nobody hit his mailbox - ever! It is interesting watching the large screw driver going to break up those trees! Thanks for another very interesting video!

Odd question.... Can you ask Aaron what model and brand the 2-way radio antenna is he has on his truck. I have a problem breaking them off on tree limbs. I noticed it in the intro drone shot and the way it wipes around looks like it would do a better job at surviving then the rigid fiberglass ones I'm currently running. Thank You - I have only been here a week or two but love your channel. ❤
Speaking of tub grinders, Vermeer makes some big ones about 10miles from here, we watched the prototypes (twin engine 1000 +300hp) run a few times. Thanks for the video and all the screwing around. lol

Case has a pretty crap reputation around here, but the rental fleets down here all seem to be Case equipment now days and the ones I've rented have been pretty alright. Though the one they put the hammer on permanently was pretty flogged out but I don't know if it's quite right to be blaming that on Case.
You & my Dad are just alike! lol. Cool thing is my cousin runs a sawmill right up the street. Dad will pick out the good logs he wants sawn up & we take them up to the mill. I’ll have to do a video on that process one day soon!

how wide is that rotor? make hitch fill it full of concrete and turn it into packer for the roads on the mine hell now that i think about it you could probably make a compactor roller bracket that mounts to an excavator quick attach

The question I keep asking myself during the watching of mechanical destruction of big wood; WHY AREN'T THESE HUGE OLD-GROWTH LOGS GOING TO THE MILL?!
Take a close look the logs all have big knots, are not straight and have some infection or are rotting. Not good enough for a sawmill.

That wood screw works good on the logs but a stump shear is faster for stumps, looks like the screw is better when you're doing both

Oh my, the red oak getting busted apart. Wow. Makes me wonder about the cost of a small mill. The resale of sawmill lumber has to more than in mulch.

We bought a smaller version of the wood screw it goes on the three point hitch on any tractor there's nothing it won't split

Do you receive enough logs to justify going in the firewood business or is more profitable to mulch it?
More profitable to mulch it, but we do burn a lot for heat during the winter
Screw seems so inefficient on logs. Why not get a mill or firewood processing plant and have a dual purpose system?
