  • The Doc was sacked for being in love, how unromantic from the board! but seriously as much as we United fans love him, he behaved like a bastard in this, and apparently, other instances
    Im posting this whole program of 7 moments that shooked United in several parts, perhaps 4 or 5, we'll see. Perhaps I'll even think outside the box and post it in.. 7 parts. Just doing some brainstorming. If you want to watch the other parts just subscribe to my diverse videos, which include classic and modern films and DVD extras, Manchester United and football in general, and even some economics, marketing and stuff

    Many older reds say that had Tommy Docherty kept his job,United would have had an assault on the transfer market and probably would have won the title in either 79 or 80.Instead it took United 9 years to find the true successor to Tommy Docherty and 7 years nearly to get that elusive title.

    Tommy Docherty was a very good football Manager. Docherty had built a good Manchester United team. Good enough to beat the greatest football team of all time. Yes, I’m a Liverpool fan. Docherty robbed us of winning the treble 22 years before Ferguson’s team.

    Morgan has sour grapes because Docherty found a better right winger in Steve Coppell and couldn't get his place back.
    He also bought gordon Hill who was superb too so he found some great players to replace the old brigade, who were brilliant in their time but age always catches up.

    Manchester United have a track record of sacking Managers winning the FA Cup. 1977 and 2016.

    • @Robbiewa-bg4lu
      @Robbiewa-bg4lu 4 года назад +1

      Mark Hall Yes history did repeat itself in 2016 and as much as I wanted Van Gaal gone,I was wrong with hindsight and he should have had at least been given until the Christmas period to try to get things right.

      Mark Hall Yes she was safe.
      As I said I think with the benefit of hindsight the sacking of both Docherty and Van Gaal after winning the FA Cup set the club back.
      Older reds suggest that had the Doc been allowed to carry on,there would have been a major assault by United on the transfer market and many say that we would have won the title in either 78,79 or 80.
      As for Van Gaal the man had his faults but had he have been allowed to carry on and got the transfer window then we probably would have been solid at the back and middle of the park which could have in a logical way laid the foundations for a damned good attack which could have seen the fruits of it emerge after say another window or two.
      And we all know the mess that happened under the watch of Mourinho which was starting to be dealt with prior to this Coronavirus crisis.

      Writing this in 2021 it seems odd that a football manager could be sacked for an issue in his private life. I'm surprised the board stuck with Docherty for so long. Manchester United were relegated in 1974 (!) and lost the 1976 FA Cup final to Southampton. I can't imagine the manager of a relegated Manchester United keeping his job these days.

    As an Oldham fan, I remember Docherty's Man Utd being beaten at Boundary Park in December 1974 in the old 2nd Division. After the game, he was clearly rattled and castigated the Oldham players as 'animals' because of their commendably competitive approach.
    Still, I always liked the guy and enjoyed watching the performances of the team he rebuilt around players such as Coppell, Hill, Greenhoff and Pearson. Was very taken aback by his sacking, and would have liked to see him finish the project he had embarked upon at Old Trafford.

    • @TheJohhnyrotten
      @TheJohhnyrotten 4 года назад

      I was behind the goal in that game when the ball bounced back off the top of the inside of the post. Oldham won 1-0 from a penalty, but it really should have been 2-0. It was a cold and miserable trip home that day, and I only lived in Middleton.

    Docherty should not have been sacked for that. Utd got what they deserved...3 years of that boring bastard Dave Sexton, while Liverpool marched on. United 1968 - 1986 the lost years and Busby was massively to blame.

    • @scherben8870
      @scherben8870 7 лет назад +5

      Who was to blame is irrelevant... possibly. The few years after '86 were total shite as well. Fergie took his time getting to grips with English football. We should have let Jock Stein do what he wanted in '71. Though he could have had the same adjustment issues as Fergie. But imagine, Dalglish and Jimmy Johnstone could have been in United red.

    Fergie who started on shaky ground thought Norman Whiteside & Paul McGrath owned the dressing room regardless but kept Bryan Robson on. MU were a good cup side & you,d assume cup winning sides go on to win the league but we,ll never know. The reason for his sacking THEN was ridiculous & an indication someone high up didn't like him but in THIS age of social media ,where looking good is everything, whose to say it,d never happen now.

    I'm with the consensus. the Doc was a great manager and surely would have gone on to greater things with the club. But you can't steal another man's wife if you work with him. If they didn't sack Doc, they'd have had to sack Laurie Brown, which they never would have done.
