I use neo Cardinia shrimp in my community tanks as my test kit. If the shrimp are hiding and not roaming around eating then I know the water needs changing.

Started the hobby with $80 of crystal red S-SSS, lost them. Experimented with 2 separate large batches of ghost shrimp, lost them. Nearly RO water, parameters perfect for all of the shrimp as far as I could tell. Done with the shrimp since I can't keep them alive. Feel lucky if you're the guy who can throw them in any tank and they thrive.

It's crazy to see a lot of old users on the qldaf site still continually speak & keep contact with each other. I know it's still considered "active" but it's not like it used to be.
One of the first breeders I ever met was a man named Stephen from north brisbane, Kind man & a good educator. I wonder if he still is keeping fish himself too.

The shrimps were all so beautiful I want some but I’m afraid , I’m in Northern Wisconsin USA and we have hard acidic water here lots of minerals and I love my guppies
I'm not so much intoline breeding because it weakens them a lot to make them beautiful aesthetic.
But it's always nice to see, and i'm glad he does it mostly for hobby not for marketing.
This is my dream for the future, not so much the master breeder part but a fish room similar size maybe a little smaller lol. Great stuff.

I know have a lot of guppies but they keep dying there body is skinny I tried to have them in water with salt and higher the temperature or feed them garlic but they keep dying does anybody know what I need to do I think they have parasites

What are your general thoughts on a "recipe" or guideline when starting a tank? How do you prepare and cycle it, and how long do you let it season? I have a tank i want to keep shrimp in that i just have put a filter into and a pellet of fish food, i plant to use clippings from other tanks to fill it out with plants.

Hey Nick, I saw that in the Neocaridina tanks there are no substrate generally, why is that? Is it better for them than the ADA substrate?
For neos you generally don’t want ADA substrate or any active soils since they lower the ph. Neos prefer higher ph and harder water so I recommend either bare bottom tanks or using inert substrates like lava rock, gravel etc.
Nice collection, interesting they have all the newest morphs etc and none of these are legal to import.
I was reading the DAFF latest amendments to completely ban the trade on ornamental shrimp due to white spot disease concerns, not sure how that works.

hi just wanted to know. i am in Melbourne. Our tap water is soft. i was told caridinas do better with soft water. and neo caridinas do better with hard water. also i was told neo caridinas are easier to look after and breed. Any help would be appreciated? thanks

Try to breed shrimp. Bought 30 red cherry shrimps. And everyday, one shrimp would die until no shrimp is alive. That was a biggest WTF moment for me

Ok. So. “Don’t feed”. Does this mean, if I have a few small fish in a tank with a few shrimp. I’m going to inevitably kill the shrimp due to feeding the fish?
No, also you can feed your shrimp as long as you keep the ammonia down. But if you have 10 or less shrimp in a tank bigger than 5 gallons that's been set up for awhile you don't need to feed them bc they'll eat off the biofilm. Shrimp also love wood and leaves
