I’ll be picking mine up Tuesday from Home Depot. Looking forward to using this beast. Thanks for the review!! 👍
@@USAFVET1998 I would not call it a beast but for light yard work it is a great buy. Mine is still going strong and just needs an annual oil change and filter clean. Thank you for watching!
I just got one today, having difficulty putting it together. Thanks for the video, it really helped.
Thanks for the helpful review. I did not read the manual thoughrouly and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't start. Shifted the bar up and it was ready to go. Lol.
I threw mines away like most men do, how do I move the handle up? Didn't see in the video
Look at the blade@robinsonstephen18
So the oil goes in that yellow cap
Yes that is correct. Thank you for watching!
My grass is like 12 inches. Wish me luck. Thought this was a self-propelled 😅
You will need it! This mower can handle up to 6" if you take it slow and lift the mower to clear excess cut grass. I'd definitely recommend getting something more powerful. Thank you for watching!
Thank you
Isn't this basically the same as the troy built and cub cadet mower that around $410?
I doubt it as this is not self propelled and the engine is on the smaller side. The larger brands often have some carryover with less expensive brands. However for the price it is a great push mower to cut a small yard or supplement a larger mower. Thank you for watching!
Had one for 15 years not a thing wrong with it the wheel broke Got new one more up grade I hope it doesn't disappoint, the old one was faithful
Can you adjust the blades? Seems like mine doesn’t cut low enough
The height adjustment are located at the wheels. Adjusting those up or down will change the cutting height by physically moving the cutting deck. I'm not sure trying a different blade would produce different results. Thank you for watching!
@@Matty_Ice_Reviews thank you!!!
Hi! Great video! I got the same model. mine leaked a bit of oil from the start button. is this normal?
This model doesn't have a start button ? If you mean the primer bulb, yes that can happen. If it continues to leak/weep the bulb underneath may have a leak and may need to be repaired/replaced. Thank you for watching!
@@Matty_Ice_Reviews say , does it have a high adjustment , thanks
just got one, what type of gas do i need? also do i need oil? never mowed before lol
This mower takes regular gasoline. I use 87 octane. The gas does nor need oil as the mower has an oil pan that you will fill with 10W30 motor oil. Thank you for watching!
@@Matty_Ice_Reviews you’re the goat, thank you
The pull start handle goes on the top right side so you don't have to bend down to grab it that's why the piece is on the right near the engine break handle.
You are correct. I also did not cover this in the video. I typically leave my at engine level by my own preference but should have mentioned that feature. It can save your back and give much needed leverage for the pull start. Thank you for watching!
I just picked one up. My neighbor was throwing it away. Ill find out why soon. It looks like new. The machine is holding its color and i see no rust parts. 550 model 21 inch blade.
I've picked up a few mowers and the big thing to test is compression. If that pull start is locked up, usually a catastrophic engine fault. Other than that I find spark plug and bad fuel to be the biggest causes of mowers being tossed. Spark plug is easy to diagnose but fuel may be in the tank or clogging the jets in the carb. Your gain as a few bucks and some wrenching and you may a good mower. Thank you for watching!
how to adjust the wheel height?
The mower deck can be raised and lowered with the arm located next to the wheel. It only allows for a few inches 2-4".
How do you turn off ??
To turn the mower off you release the throttle bar that you hold while operating. This mower does not feature any other type of engine brake or stop. Thank you for watching!
@@Matty_Ice_Reviews thanks!
I just bought one and it took 45 minutes to put together and now I'm trying to remove the wheels to lower the mower grade but can't do it. Every other Yard Machine I have used had had levers at the wheel. I've got a black 20" Yard Machines 79-cc 20-in and this is ridiculous to take the wheels off to change the level!
That is a shame that the wheels have to come off. That is poor engineering and not taking the consumer into account. I hope everything goes smooth. Thank you for watching!
@@Matty_Ice_Reviews It is a
Yard Machines 79-cc 20-in Gas Push bought from Lowe's, going price $185ish, paid $205 after tax. Did NOT go smooth. I got one wheel back on and okay working after around an hour of fussing.
Basically you have to stabilize / grab either the nut underneath the undercarriage or the bolt on the outside of the machine at the wheel, THEN turn whatever you aren't trying to keep still. But I had to do it by myself, I'm left handed, and of course only two hands, total pain in the ass. THEN I couldn't straighten the OTHER nut and bolt to the mower so that wheel remained lopsided.
The big fun surprise was finding out that I did that (put it on lowest setting by moving wheels) and that NOW the mower cuts almost TOO low. It would repeatedly "stop/get stuck" because it would be hitting near-ground level, and I'd have to push and use brute force to go forward. Pulling backward was easier but left visible locations where it was clear that the lawnmower was bumping up and down.
Yard Machines 79-cc 20-in Gas Push. Would not recommend. Every other Yard Machine that I have used, there has been a lever to adjust the depth of cutting. Taking the wheels off of this one was nearly a two hour chore and about hour and a half of cutting because I was going back over myself over and over again.
Waste of money. If I'd known, would have gone with a different model. But Lowe's had it $20 cheaper than Home Depot, Home Depot had the Yard Machines that we'd worked with in the past (red color, 21") but they were going $200 minimum. Lesson learned, don't always buy the cheapest just because you're scared of a budget or your future with money.
Does this use straight gas? Or mixed?
This uses straight gasoline, no mixing of oil needed. Thank you for watching!
Str gas
wait I’m kinda confused what does it mean when it says shift the bar up to start it
If it is your first start from assembly make sure the handle bars are fully extended by removing the nuts on the bars. This prevents the mower blades from turning. If this is already done, then this will refer to pulling the throttle bar on the handle. This throttle bar must be depressed while operating the mower will not start. Just like when you are mowing if you let go of the bar the engine stops. Thank you for watching!
@@Matty_Ice_Reviews I finally got it after a couple minutes of rereading thank you so much ! Really helpful video you got here !
Out of curiosity, based on your Matty Ice Reviews logo, you ever own an Avirex leather jacket before?
I have not, those are very cool! The logo was designed by an artist I hired. I gave them full creative control as long as it had my channel name and featured soda in some way.
how do you do a oil change on it
Hello to do an oil change you will need to make sure the gas tank is empty or drain any gas in the gas tank. Thereafter you will uncap the oil tank and tilt the entire mower on its side over a oil pan or whatever you plan to catch the oil in. The oil will run out and will slowly stop as the oil is drained. After this turn the mower upright and clean off the mower (this method of draining oil is always messy!). Refill with oil and you are good to go! Thank you for watching!
Buy a syringe on Amazon. Sucks the oil out without tilting and draining gas.
@@fuguf1sh that's a great work around for this issue! I've contemplated buying a small liquid transfer hand pump to make the process cleaner and easier. Thank you for watching!
@@Matty_Ice_Reviews does my yard machine 21 140cc need straight gas poured in or mixed with oil? I am needing help. 😢
@@teachmetruth3539 this uses straight gasoline, no mixing of oil.
Man mines still won’t start
Well, how do you change the oil in this exact machine? There is no drain plug on this machine???
The oil fill and drain plug are one in the same (the yellow plug I remove in the video to fill oil). The instructions tell you to make sure the gas is empty, remove the yellow plug, and turn the mower on its side to empty oil. You can also use an oil transfer pump as the tilt method is very messy. Thank you for watching!
@@Matty_Ice_Reviews Thank you lol i was panicking lol. I went and bought a pump to get it out. I was gonna turn it over but i just put new gas in it and i wasnt about to waist any of it tipping it over haha. Gas is way to high lol
Mtd 139 wont feed gas to start
I would guess one or more of the jets is clogged in the carb. Disassembly with cleaning should improve. You will need to use a small piece of wire or thin pick to clear the holes of material. Carb cleaner helps as well but will not clear everything on its own.
You may also want to check if your model has a tank or inline filter. Tank filters are generally metal mesh that are meant to catch large debris but have the negative impacts of becoming gummed up. Inline filters need go be changed periodically as they filter dirt and particles out of gasoline.
Thank you for watching!
I've had one for a couple years. It mulches really well and has been running well until now. Starts on 2nd or 3rd pull when cold. No oil drain plug IIRC so you'll need to buy a syringe for oil changes. I've mowed many acres with it. It just started surging bad today. Hence while I'm here.
Bruh... I've been pulling mine for 20 mins.... -.- tf.
I would check fuel level and if not that maybe sark plug is in need of replacement
