One of the best slow burn rock songs ever written. When you play it without the drums, you realize how much of what makes the song magic is your playing.

Perfection. That is how you play this song kids!!!!

This is a song you can gift to someone. So long as the person has the ability to listen, they will sit-back in astonishment and wonder what they just heard and why they didn't know about it before.

All those wonderful ghost notes make this song breathe and simmer. You sir, are a dying breed of drummers with the skills to add texture and dynamics to the song. The drums are such a big part of this song . Thanks Forrest.

I just had a conversation, a couple weeks ago, about why Forrest is my favorite drummer. This video is a perfect example of one of the main reasons. The performance sounds so simple, something anyone can pick up and play. But, in reality, it is so incredibly complex. So many layers and nuances. It's something so few drummers do.

This song and album is incredible. I remember buying this album after hearing The Oaf on radio. I fell in love with this whole album. Was surprised it didn’t get more airplay and recognition. Awesome.

I finally found you , I've been looking high and low for videos and whatever relates to you . I was a huge Big Wreck Canadian fan, and I lost track of you and now I finally found this channel about you and your art ... You always have been the BEST big Wreck drummer in my book , I love all your rolls and ghost notes in all the songs we performed . You have a unique way of playing and one of my favorite drummers. I will take the time to check out your channel in the coming weeks . I am soooo happy ... Thank you for sharing !!

Interesting to hear you emphasize the idea that songs this well written/performed take on such distinct, individual meanings to listeners. It’s obviously very true, but often times it appears that the writers/performers become desensitized to the emotional "kick" that was tied to the creation of their own song. It’s satisfying to know that Blown Wide Open still resonates in a distinct way with one of its creators.
God damn, _In Loving Memory Of…_ is still just as much a spring of emotion as it was when I first heard it. I can’t ever hear a single track from that album (including this one, of course), without immediately re-living the emotions and memories that life tied to them.
Just that gentle trill on the snare at the intro, and I’m instantly a heartbroken young'un all over again. Powerful stuff.
    Well done.

I just purchased ILMO on vinyl and my one wish was to hear the hi-hat pedal squeaking on this tune and it was utter bliss. In my opinion, this is one of most dynamic drum parts ever recorded. I have the utmost respect for how you play. Nothing short of brilliant.

I know that business and personalities and artistic visions and, well, death, have made this impossible, but I still despair that we're never going to see the original BW together again. That lineup was special, and I think the push-and-pull between the band made for some beautiful moments that wasn't really there by the time the band just became a logical transition out of Thornley. I do like what Ian's done with BW, but I really think you, Brian (RIP) and especially Dave (whatever happened to him? he had killer tone) shaped the band's original sound in ways that I just don't see anymore. Really hoping FWD gets to record more. I like watching your playthroughs.

Love the video, great sound especially. Filming a drum cover must be quite a process, lol. Hope there's no bad blood between you guys, I imagine the pressure on the band to perform back in the period this album was written was quite intense, probably a lot of stress for everyone. Anyway huge fan of the band and much love!

while a bigger fan of "The Pleasure And The Greed", this track, along with "Oaf" and "Fall Through The Cracks" get FREQUENT plays over this way :) great video!

Stellar! That Ludwig snare tuned low but with the bite of the diecast top hoop is sweet! What's the hats?

Ok, I've been trying to figure out what the heck the snare is. LOL To me it looks like a Supra but with tube lugs and diecast hoops. But it has the holes for a muffler, which would typically mean the shell is a little older. And in the video there appears to be a gold oval badge on the opposite side of the keystone badge.
So I'm officially stumped. Ha. I'm guessing it's been modded at some point.
So what is the shell? COB? COA? Older shell with updated tube lugs and diecast hoops? Inquiring minds want to know. 🤔

Hi! Thank you for the interest! It’s a limited edition Crome over brass from the late 90,s or early 2000’s . Love that drum. It’s my go to for recording. I did replace the hoops with die cast cause i love diecast on everything if i had a choice.
