Personally I love these Ozark trips. Everybody and there mother does Utah, Arizona, Colorado etc. And you see the same stuff just different people/rigs doing it. This is truly unique. The Ozarks also don't get the love like you were talking about NM. Done any trips in St. Francis National Forest? Good stuff!!
Love to explore. It is why we have always been in to ohv. Started with a 76 F250 highboy on 38" TSL. Now the Bronco, dirt bikes four wheelers and side by side. Look forward to seeing Y'all at the Expo. I will be there!
I love the views of wheeling in the summer or fall but winter time is so much more comfortable to us, enjoying a fire while hanging out at camp, staying warm while cooking and heater for sleeping equals way more enjoyable than sweating your butt off anytime you’re out of the vehicle!
1st thing is I grew up in the 80s on the Arkansas river in cimarron Kansas we still had water at that time and learn how to back float in the river miss it so much so envious of you guys that still have rivers all we can do now is drive down the sand in the river bed because we have no water here Trying to get into Overlanding love Colorado been 5 times in the last 3 years just got a JLU that I am trying to set up for Overlanding like your wife's love the RUclips videos your welcome here anytime
I believe that desire to explore is just second nature to you Matt..and I feel the same about myself. I can travel trails I have been on many times and I am still just happy to be here. Thank You so much for what you do for us viewers. I get to ride along with you and not even leave the driveway but nothing better than going and seeing it in person.
Enjoyed your video! I too love to explore and sometimes go alone. The peace of the woods is great stuff. Good for the soul. Been on many of them, many more to explore. Thanks for what you and Cara do!!
I love to go roam and explore!! I also love the wintertime. No mosquitoes and you can see through the trees and all the cool features in the creeks can be seen easier.
My husband and I have always enjoyed off-roading and exploring. But, we’ve never done as much of it as we would like. Since finding your channel you have motivated us to get serious about it and start exploring the Ozarks. I also love the winter when you can see things the trees block in other seasons. You and your wife are so inspiring. Thanks for all the work you put into your channel.
Honestly, as of right now I go to my old stomping grounds, but I would absolutely love to go out and explore more. My issue with it is I enjoy doing it with others and we all take it in together and I don't have anyone to go out with. I've joined a few local overlanding Facebook groups so hopefully that will change in the very near future!
In the Pacific North West winter is grey and wet. Really wet. And grey. I prefer summertime, thank you. Best of luck on your health goals. I stopped drinking sodas and alcohol years ago. You won't miss it. I have "itchy feet" too. I don't like to be in one place, I heard it described recently as "Be a traveller not a tourist" That fits.
When I bought my pick up I would go down country dirt roads to find where they led. But gas got high so I stopped going on adventures. But lately I have a need to get back out in nature to find where I fit and to find my joy again. I lost my mother to Covid vaccination so I feel lost. But I always felt very spiritual when I was out in nature exploring. As a kid we spent Sundays going in backroads of Arkansas. My dad is from the base of Mt. Magazine so he really had a lot available for fishing and hunting I live in NWA where there is a lot of natural beauty to find. Even though gas is expensive still little day trips aren’t so bad to do. So glad I found your channel to gleam info from.
I mix things up! I love to explore and see new things, but there are also some great trails to go back to every now and again. My father in law picked up a Jeep so taking him out to some of those trails is fun.
Definitely share that desire to explore and adventure new places 👌🏼 going to old stomping grounds is always nice but finding new places is hard to beat
Wheeling in winter you ask. There are a bunch of us hitting the trails around Black Lake in Onaway Michigan tomorrow morning. There is snow on the ground and a high temp expected tomorrow of 28 degrees Fahrenheit.
Love it and I'm right there with you. Also, when you said "It's a beautiful little waterfall..." I heard it in the voice of Bob Ross and was picturing you painting a portrait of said waterfall, lol.
I love finding new places, but the old trails are like old friends, wonderful in the best way. I’m still new to being the driver, and new to my 2006 Tacoma, so I’m still doing easy trails when I’m out by myself. I’d love to do more winter exploring, but Northern California has a TON of snow right now, so I’ll have to wait. I see a diesel heater in my future!
Old trails that you have traveled before are great to use when you want to plan something with others. Exploring new trails is what I love to do. Like you, it's the adventure of finding something better and new. That is why I am looking forward to retirement this March and hitting the trails back east. Living in AZ we don't have winter or spring time trees, the cacti look the same year round. I will be in your neck of the woods for at least a week or maybe 2. No schedule, timeframe or agenda ( except gathering the southeastern JBOH's) 🙌
I love going out in winter as well. You don’t sweat and like you said, No Bugs! LOL As to running solo, It’s peaceful and very relaxing. Just need to know the area, let someone know your travel plans and have check in times. Keep up the great videos Matt! 👍
Here in East Tennessee, I have been on "roads" where my Tacoma was getting scratched on both sides by the brush and branches. This is the reason I prefer a full front end brush bar on a bumper (preferably with brush cables), and running board style rock sliders (as opposed to the type that tuck tight against the rocker).
i also got to deliver oil to loggers out in the middle of the woods for a while for my job so going out on the logging tracks and just seeing the wilderness that no one else has seen besides the people i was delivering too was a cool feeling and it was always something i looked forward to. Like think about it i basically got paid to go adventure which was pretty sick!
I think our exploring changes from our mood and time available. If we are short on time, then a familiar trail is good as it allows us to get there quickly and enjoy it with little effort. If time is no factor then exploring is the way to go! I agree with you concerning New Mexico. It is a FANTASTIC place to explore and the landscape differs so much depending on the regions that you visit. We are from NM and love the land of enchantment. We truly love our home in NW Arkansas, but we do laugh when folks talk about the mountains in the Natural State. Growing up in NM we know what a real mountain looks like. haha! Thanks for the great video. Be safe and enjoy the week.
Love the thoughts (and channel) Matt (and Cara)... but your thoughts on getting out and exploring... BEFORE time runs out... it resonates a million times over! Thanks for bringing us along... safe travels you guys!
been struggling with my own issues with my new to me truck ( currently in the shop getting new torque converter and having a check engine code ran which is all covered by warranty ) however i can watch these videos and feel relaxed and for some reason given a sense of hope and excitement so thank you for what you do!
Much props to the way you easily navigate through and around trees. Even in my nimble 2 door JLR I take it slower than probably most. Your rig is wide and long, and you handle it very well. Nothing like seat time!
I love exploring new places but there are a few places I go back to whenever I can. One spot in Moab comes to mind…camp there every time I go. Love the short trip up to the hills in Arkansas and we always find a new spot when we go! Thanks for highlighting such an interesting area within a half day drive of my home!
I was going to make a comment that if I lived in any state but central Indiana I would have some nice relaxing trails to explore. But Matt, instead this weekend while my 05 LJ Rubi gets worked on I will look up some Forestry roads and BLM roads in this state and start my baby steps. If you have any quick tips to look up (I think you did a video on this back in the day) let me know.
We're more into exploring new places thanks to you guys and Brad and Regena. We're heading to Ozark National Forest the weekend before Easter to experience some of what you've shown us on your channel. Our local Jeep club trails are cool but the adventure bug has bitten hard. Thank you for that!
Visiting old stomping grounds are nice but also I love the unknown. There are over 200 abandoned towns here in Ontario Canada, 10 of them are easily accessible but it's the more remote places i want to get to. :) The Ozarks are on my list for sure.
Hi Matt, loved the video. The trails and water fall are so beautiful. I just love the Ozarks. One day I hope to explore the Ozarks. Thank you for the wonder content. 😊
No matter the destination, once I return the euphoria faids. I think of the trail or hike I didn't get to check out and the to desire to go again continues to build. (Like an itch that has to be scratched.) Your video's provide both a small fix and an insperation. Thank you.
I definitely like to explore new places. I like a smaller rig, that’s why I sold my Land Cruiser. It just felt too big to me and had a tough time getting between the trees in the Ozarks. I now have a 2004 WJ. It’s size feels just right to me.
Exploring is ongoing for me Live in Indiana. I like to travel. I built a square top overland. Just got back from Arizona. CAl, Nevada, UT and Colorado. . Plan Georgia traverse in mid summer. I like all season Alan
Love how you have the fire extinguisher mounted by the rear seat. Looks like it's on a molle panel, but I can't find a molle panel that goes there. Where did you get it?
The reason that most of the lakes/ponds are made it to provide water for the wildlife and to help provide emergency water for the tankers during a forest fire. this way they don't have to travel 100's of miles to the nearest runway just to load up with the much needed water.
Matt, Love the videos and have seen most. I ran into you at Oark Cafe a month or so ago and actually saw my rig on your video. My wife and I first experienced the Boston Mountains in January 2 years ago this week. The long views off into the bare trees, of the rocks everywhere with the beautiful green lichen is spectacular. It's January 24 and White Mountain is forecast to get 4 - 8 inches of snow. Please tell me your going to go out somewhere down there and shoot some content? Keep it up! Best regards Dave Nintyeight Jeep
Thanks! I wish I was. I'm helping a friend install a lift on his Gladiator tomorrow or I would be in the snow!! We are hitting the Ozarks this weekend but I doubt much snow will be hanging around. But water crossings should be up!!
Yes Matt, rule one of going off roading is go with a friend, but if you have the right gear, self recovery is an option, and you DO have the ability to call backup in an emergency... So you do have your bases covered. IMO the order of importance on a 4by is armor, then recovery gear, then everything else. My current truck is not adequately equipped (budget has not yet allowed for proper skids and a winch yet) so alas I have to pick where I wheel much more carefully. As a guy who is fast approaching 50, you are dead on about what is important in life... work and making a living is important, but people need to remember to experience life while they can. too many people live their life just to make money and work work work til they retire then find they are gettin too old to do the things they should of done when they were younger.
I've dome lots of solo camping out in the Nevada deserts, the only thing I worry about is the human animal and that's why I always have proper self protections tools, other than that I love it.
Enjoying your stuff. Just found you! I just watched the OOAT 5 day trip you did. I am wanting to hit it this summer, and I was wondering if the route you did was still "open"? Thank you so much!
Around the 30 minute mark you went through some mud holes. Did you check those out before you went through? It seems like in a recent video with Cara you got out and check them out so I was just wondering how you decide to check them out or just drive through them…
