  • On this adventure I head East to explore some trails in the Cibola National Forest in New Mexico in search of a scenic campsite. I’ll venture done some forest roads and enjoy some moderate technical trails. Then I continue East to Texas where I’ll spend a couple days exploring the Merus Adventure Park in the Palo Duro Canyon which is just outside of Amarillo Texas. I’ll get after it on some technical trails and find peace at an epic camping spot.

I appreciate the work it takes to put out this type of content. Set up camera, get the shot, stop, retrieve camera and repeat over & over & over again then edit. I used to film EVERYTHING. 5 GoPros, DSLR, Gimbals & Drone but stopped because it started taking away from the experience.
It started becoming more about "getting the shot" vs wheeling, camaraderie & soaking it in. Then again, I'm not a RUclipsr. I Respect the grind.

Two tips that you may already know. (1) Tent ground sheet: If the ground sheet extends beyond the edges of the tent. Weather it is rain or just dew. The moisture will collect on the ground sheet and make it's way under the tent. Keep the ground sheet just a tad smaller than the tent foot print. (2) If your sleeping bag has any kind of weather resistant shell it will pack and compress easier if you turn it inside out prior to packing.

Had a thought... (I'm a retired Air Force Parachute Rigger 2A7X4) If you use beeswax on zippers they will last longer (never oil, collects dirt) and gives you less problems. I don't know how many flight suits I did to when we worked on them. Just close the zipper, then slide the beeswax over the teeth of the zipper, then slide the pull tab up and down. If the zipper doesn't want close after zipping it close... lightly crimp the back half of the pull tab. After so many times pulling on the pull tab it opens the mouth of the pull tab.

@@sfb1170 @TrailRecon it's in a days work though some do it better than others... Brad appears very comfortable in his approach to things/life while also being charismatic with his narration. And he loves a challenge for his typically very nicely spec'd out rides. I race sports car on road course tracks and been working on my 4x4 tow vehicle some for moderate overlanding
More artistic variety in the transitions with the photography would be great while understanding a lot more time consuming. Luckily nature itself well presented is often powerful enough. For an one man crew Brad is to be commended!
I would have more artistic flair but my ride, camping equipment, meals, navigation/destinations & narration would all pale in comparison. I'm on the other coast but would partner with someone like Brad any day of the week that I'm free from all my other interests yada yada though many support overlanding

Thanks for sharing brother! I can't wait to get me Jeep soon! After serving in the U.S. Army for 22 years, I too am now retired and I can't wait to hit the trails. I wish you all the best! God bless you and your family! Be safe.

Thanks for the adventure Brad. Working in the healthcare industry keeps me busy and not able to go on adventures like this. Watching this episode takes the edge a little and I can’t wait to get out there and explore.

I appreciate how even on solo trips you're able to capture wheeling shots. Lately I've set my camera down so I can enjoy my trips for myself and not fret about getting enough footage for the edit. But it's inspiring seeing what you're able to accomplish with what seems little effort from your years of experience. I'm headed to Paul Duro in a few months and thank you for this trail recon.

Thanks for your service Master Chief. Love the channel. But, I don't think that French Press is cutting it. I could actually see the spout when you poured that cup...brew like that might get you kicked out of the Chief's Mess!

So COOL man! I am in a facebook group with the owner of Merus Adventure Park and have been waiting until this coming spring to get out and explore it. I mentioned it in my Texas Hill Country Overland Route video back last spring. So cool you were able to make it out there.
