- In this video I go over my process for creating a UV curing station for Resin Miniatures and Dice!
Check out the new Official Dice Goblin Merch at the Teespring store! Patrons on Patreon get up to 20% off depending on the level of support they provide: teespring.com/stores/dice-gob...
Just a note - If you are usually between two sizes, go with the larger size. (For example, if you are between a large and a medium, go with large. The cheaper material shirts shrink a bit.)
Sorry this video is not as in depth or as big of a project as normal. I work in Healthcare, (not in a capacity that makes me ANYWHERE EVEN CLOSE to the heroic efforts being put forth by the clinical staff around the world), but it has kept me stressed and busy. As such, I didn't have time to get a HUGE video out. Thank you for understanding, and stay safe out there!
Most of the UV curing stations out there are either prohibitively expensive, take up a lot of room, or use multiple cords to get the job done. I think I found a way to get a single plug, decent looking UV curing box for my Resin Minis and Prints on a budget! Some of the curing stations out there are nearly $300! That's absolutely insane. You can build everything here for under $25 if you already have a box and some foil. The UV lights that I purchased are on sale all the time, and I got them and the turntable for the $25 that I mentioned.
You can cure both resin prints, as well as dice inside of their see-through silicone. UV dice have the problem of only being able to do one or two at a time with a tiny UV flashlight like I had before, and a UV nail station only get's one side of the resin. With the turntable, reflective surface and abundance of lights, this will be sure to cure ALL angles of your UV resin. :)

The black magic of self turning tables... unimaginable!
It's still super crazy to watch just start turning haha
Guess we're learning how to make dice during self isolation! Adore the videos, adore the dice goblin!!!!!
Hey we gotta spend our time doing something right? Glad you like it :)
20 seconds in and lovin' the puns
Edit: The dice goblin merchandise is incredible
Trying to step up both my Pun and Merch game haha :)

Please never stop the new pun intro, its the best
I just want to mention that just because something looks reflective in the visual spectrum it doesn't have to be in the ultraviolet, so a silvered mirror would be a poor choice. Aluminum foil should be fine, depending on the wavelength.
Because the whole sheet is one bit of plastic rather than a glass with metallic backing like normal mirrors, I assume/assumed it will reflect in the same manner that aluminum foil would. I could be totally off base, but hey, there are enough lights in here to cover that anyway :)
@@Rybonator Since I don't know what exactly you use, I can't tell you either. I just wanted to mention it. If someone uses old mirror tiles or something similar they have laying around for example.
I'm pretty sure it would work without, but as you said yourself, it helps distributing the UV lights more evenly, even if it's not highly UV reflective.
@@ayumikuro3768 Good point. Thanks for bringing that up :)
Add a disco ball and your minis can boogie while they cure. ;P
in times like this, using your merch as toilet paper is more of a compliment than an insult because of how rare and valuable toilet paper is
YES!!!! I loved the plushie but I'm glad you also considered shirt designs because they're just more functional. I'm gonna go look at some now and plan to get one for my birthday! Thank you!! :)
Edit: After reading the description, don't worry about making shorter videos! It's impressive that you even make videos while having a full time job, so you never need to apologize for edu-taining us on youtube for free. We are here because we want to watch!
You rock my friend :) Thank you for the wholesome comment. I'm glad I have awesome subscribers like you. You make my day! :)
@@Rybonator you rock too! Thank you for the videos :)
So close to 100k!!!
I know :D:D:D
This is the best tutorial ever. I just started making UV resin jewelry and I’m really excited (thanks ADHD hyper focus 🙃) about doing more projects.
Same place as you but just 2 years later, what is your hyperfocus now days?
@@amberafterliife Plants lately 🤣
Ooh. Those are some nice dice you’re curing there. When you do the photochromatic resin you should make a custom night/day style dice.
Just bought UV resin the other day, super helpful!
Perfect timing :)
I'm going to use one of those big tins of popcorn you usually get at Christmas. Inside is already reflective so all I need is the turn table and UV light string.
A&M class of 2016 represent!
(even if our administration didn't)
I've been waiting sooo long for this merch announcement. Shirt is already purchased!
Whoop! Glad it finally came for you :)
LOL! The puns!! The merch looks great by the way!
Put those blue fluffy things in some Dice!
i love your stickers. as soon as i can afford it i will order a few for my dice nerd friends. I am known as a Dice Dragon myself though i will probably ascend at some point this fall...local mini shops always get new cool sets near the holidays. Be safe man, I hope you and your wife are well and healthy thank you for putting out videos they help us homebound people to stay sane.
"Also in Maroon for all you Aggie dice goblins." The cult always finds a way...
Congratulations on your shirts(and stickers too) they look so awesome! I loved the toilet paper bit at the end 😂
Glad you like them :) They will make for excellent TP!
Emergency TP is a much better use (right now) than using it as kindling, which is what I think most people do with the merch of those they want to protest. But I'd rather wear those shirts and that maroon shirt even works for me to show off a bit of Sun Devil pride.
A Dice Goblin Dice bag would be legit.
This is pretty awesome.
Glad you like it! :)
WOOP WOOP NEW VIDEO
Whoop! :D
So many clever DIY curing stations!
IDK if this counts as clever, but more of a "It get's the job done!" haha :)
I love the merch! I can't wait to get myself some of it!
Love it! Loving the puns, and perfect timing with the craziness going on. Love the idea, something I will most indubitably utilize when I start my resin crafting. Love the humor too XDXDXDXDXDXDXDXD
I love your vibes man, keep it up!
I love the merchandise. I need to get one of the shirts in pink sometime
short and simple u made a good video mate. very helpful
Nice little design! and just looked at the merch store, they have things in my size! (5xl) you have no idea how many geek shirts I have not been able to get due to it only going up to 3x for most places.... thank you sir!
I'm glad you enjoy the design :)
I don't stock the store personally, but I am very glad I picked one that is able to get something for you my friend :)
First, you convince me to make a dice box. I like it so much I make several.
NOW I need to make a UV resin curing station, and I find myself following yet ANOTHER box tutorial.
I thought this was a dice channel?? XD
This reminds me of a project I did in third grade where we had to use a pizza box, black paper, and tin foil to make a solar “oven”
The puns! They are killing me ;D
Kinda wondering if you live near me now; it's been strangely cloudy for the past week or so and finally cleared up today.
The shirts are so cute!
Ok... but how many rolls of toilet paper will the t-shirt cost?
It's the equivalent of 24 mega rolls
@@Rybonator okie dokie I'll make sure to save up

Two questions: why you need the rotating table if you have leds in all box walls, coming light from all directions?
- why to put lights on bottom if you cover the plate with foil which will block the light coming from that direction? It makes more sense to put in the lid right?
So! Having worked with those types of LEDs before, and with flex PCBs, which are what they're mounted on - You can actually bend those things pretty much in half. As long as you're not flexing them back and forth continuously, they'll be fine. And if it does break, those types of LEDs are designed for being cut and re-soldered. There's markings for where you can cut them, and then you just have to either solder the pads of two pieces together, or solder wires to each of the two sections.
Hey thank you this is really awesome
this is brilliant! thanks for this!
Praise the dice!
I have a small urge to put a boom box inside the box, it just makes me want to have Europe in the background for some reason, funny because I'm no child of the 80's
That would be hilarious haha. A solar powered boombox!
Glad we agree on that haha. Thanks for the reply btw
are you planning on making a UV resin tutorial soon for making dice in molds?
I'd actually build it the oter way around... like use the lid for theturntable and put the box on it, so you can cover the top with leds but don't have the wire in the way
That's a good way to go about it too :)
What fonts do you use for your 3D printed dice? Looking at getting started and having trouble finding finding ones I like that don't look like they'll be too skinny when printing
I suggest getting a round bucket or storage container instead of a box. No bending of the light strip at all.
How well would it work if instead of the foil on the turntable you used more of the adhesive mirror panel and then put plastic cling wrap (saran wrap) on that to protect it
Bad dad jokes aside, good content as always.
Rybonator, keep you and yours healthy my man!
Have you ever tried using alcohol based dye and water based dye in the same dice? If you mix the resin first and then add the dyes they wouldn't mix as much and could give a cool swirly effect to the dice. Love the videos!
I was thinking about using an old large microwave for that actual appliance look using aluminum foil and strips, but I like your mirrors a lot better.
Lee Valley Tools sells the solar display stand for far cheaper than Amazon! :D
Hey man, is there UV resin that you would recommend for use in molds? The kind I got seems like it tends to shrink and get ripples across the surface and doesn't look that great. Do you have any experience with that or any tips?
I'm new to the whole dice making thing and am hoping to start this month, what is this UV box actually used for in the dice making process?
With all these reflective surfaces and leds is turntable actually that beneficial?
hello love the merch sadly my dnd got cancelled for corona resons
Hey I just started making dice and my dice came out with a bunch of bubbles on the side with the sprew how could you prevent that
Very cool but when we getting bean dice
Lol possibly soon :)
Oh the puns!
I know that's what people come for. Gotta give the people what they want!
Does the rotation speed up the curing process?
Dig it!
Glad you enjoyed :)
Who tf disliked this?!
In another note, the Tiny dice goblin is so fking cute ♥
“You could...”, yeah sure I could do all these things but I’m mainly here for you and the visuals
Not just Aggies! Msu maroon too 😂
Can you use dye with uv resin?
I'm using this idea to light up my enclosure for my filament printer, so I can see what I'm doing, cure resin, and cure my nail polish all at the same time.
Have you ever considered showing a video on maxing you own dice like tips for using clay or wax to make your own actual custom die
Question,....with so many uv lights surrounding the model,.....why would you need a turn table?
How long do you have to cure for?
Since there's lights from every side, is the turntable even needed?
It's good to have, as you ensure that light will hit all sides and angles of your piece. If there was a shadow or something form your print, it might not have cured properly otherwise. BUT, it's probably not super necessary :)
👌

@@Rybonator NOOOOICE
Does it need to turn, with 952 lights on it? Also, time to update your UV light link.
Did this light strip work well for you? Looking for updates on how well it actually worked! I'm wanting to make a curing box for my UV resin projects :)
I used a dollar store metal lunch box to do this and I wish used the hallmark box instead instead lol
Dear lord... The dad-jokeness is strong with you this video
BTW not a complaint
20 seconds in got a like just for the puns
I knew coming up with those puns was worth it!
hey, not sure if you brought this up and i'm no expert, but is it safe to put a lid on a box with uv lights? I imagine the lights generate heat, and the heat would have no where to go, and also cardboard box would probably fair too well with all that stored heat.
I don't plan on having this thing on for more than 5 minutes at a time, so I don't think that will be a big concern. BUT, that is a good point. I think the mirrors will also help with dissipating the heat :)
"You could use an Amazon box. You could use aluminum foil."
I'm feeling a bit called out here right now. ;)
I will admit, your curing box looks way prettier than mine.
Safety: UVA is generally safe, it's what they use in raves and laser tag arenas to make all the fluorescent paints glow, but my chamber tends to leave a tacky surface on my prints, and I'm pretty sure it's because it uses UVA light. UVB is what gives you a sunburn, and you don't want to look at that for very long, but a little bit is mostly fine. UVC is what's used for sterilization, it *will* give you a nasty sunburn ON YOUR EYES! if you're not careful, and according to Big Clive, it doesn't travel very well through atmosphere, so humans don't generally interact with UVC in any meaningful way on a daily basis.
Which, of course, is why I ordered two UVC sterilization lamps to try and amp up my curing chamber. Hopefully they arrive next month.
Hol up
*Chuckles* you’re in danger
Are the shirts limited stock or anything? Quite a few of the RUclipsrs I’ve been watching having their merch as limited stock currently, which I think is kind of insane for during a pandemic, but I’d still like to buy the merch is possible at a later point.
Woohoo merch! So that box was badass. That'll def be awesome when things get a bit less uncertain. And apart from your shitty jokes (hehe bc tp) thanks, i hope you and yours get through this just fine too ^_^
Do you work with Voicey, the reddit reader here on youtube? the intro music is the same so it made me curious

If you use a cylindrical trash can, you don't have to worry about bending the light strip.
That's true too! A small trashcan was actually my backup, if the box didn't work. But then it's hard to cut into and get the cord through.
No longer are you reliant on the petty whims of the sky!
the amount of puns in the intro is
astounding
what does to UV light do the the dice and figures?
It is for curing minis that come out a resin printer or dice or whatever you print.
what does the curing exactly do?
So without curing resin, it will either still be too soft to really handle and deform over time, or still be toxic to touch. POSSIBLY both depending on the resin :)
I wanna see the photo pigment puck after some time in there....
You know a $20 nail curing light will work as well, right? Is there an advantage to this box?
Style points :3
@@bluphenyx that, and nail curing lights can be limited in size. im the kind of crazy person who wants to make some largeish suncatchers with uv resin--lets say 8x8 inches max--and the largest nail lamp ive seen on amazon is /maybe/ 7.5 inches across. i dont like being limited in size like that, so getting a cheap cardboard box in virtually any size i want and some uv lights is honestly perfect for me.
(yes i know this comment is two years old let me liiiiiiive)
Very Illuminating ;). Although that toilet paper joke was kinda crappy ;).
Just a bit of Light hearted humor ;) But I know that Stinks sometimes ;P

So close!
Dollar store plastic box $1, Hallmark $7
Maybe I missed this somewhere but to save anyone else the ecrutiating wait... order two sets of the adhesive mirror, not one. You need two. You can see two packages of it on his table at the beginning and one isn't enough for the entire box. 😭
Ok I can excuse the first two puns but after the forth a was ready to throw a 20 sides dice at you
The 8 dislikes have no sense of humor for box puns.
big ups to all my dice goblins in healthcare right now
Has anyone else been frustrated by the short supply of n95 filters during this pandemic? I could have gotten so many dice made during the plague ;;.
