(Just For Everyone's Information) The people/tribe who created this dance were from the cordillera region they are part of the Igorot peoples, specifically the Kalinga tribe the Igororts were never conquered by the Spaniards because of their geological advantage, head hunting practices and tactics they used like they never disclosed the location of heir villages when they went to the lowlands and traded with the Ilocanos, plus they knew the forest very well and used it to their advantage. When the Americans arrived to the Philippines they befriended the igorot peoples instead of the more aggressive approach that the Spaniards used. You can see their friendship in old videos showing American scouts showing nd giving Igorots modern accessories and devices and giving thee Igorots teachers to educate them.
My grandpa always told me that his ancestors always made the most effort to protect their woman away from the Spanish and that had been passed down for generations. We did ancestry dna, 100% Filipino. Zero Spanish. This makes me wonder if we descend from the igorots? We don’t have any information or connection to our original peoples so we can’t be sure. However. We do know his fathers side came from the north Luzon area. This comment brings me one step closer to finding out thank you! I also am exceptionally good at balancing things on my head a dancing so..
I learned this dance at the University of the Philippines when I was admitted to the UP Filipiniana dance troupe. In Hawaii, we had narrators so the audience can appreciate the dance. I used to tiptoe and sashay, and stretch my arms gracefully to maintain my balance. We danced the Luzon Suite at the coronation of Ms Hawaii Filipina.
Because of the Spanish influence to it. The combined native Filipino tribal dances and the energetic Spanish dances produced one the most gorgeous dances in the world.
