  • The history of the Banga Dance tells us a story of Filipino women’s strength, resilience and grace. Banga (pronounced ba-nga), meaning “pot”, is an earthen container originated by the northern Cordillera region of the Philippines. Traditionally, they’re made of local clay found only in the Kalinga villages, an area rich with rice terraces and lush mountainsides. The Kalinga people are highlanders and rice farmers of the Cordillera peoples, having been blessed with some of best land for rice farming. They are also skilled craftspeople who are well-versed in basketry, loom weaving, metalsmithing, and pottery; and despite centuries of occupation by the Spaniards, Americans and Japanese, the Kalinga people have been able to preserve their vast, rich culture.
    Performed by the LUngsoranon Performing Arts Ensemble (LUPAE), a school based cultural troupe in Tubigon, Bohol. Most members are high school students. Alumni member are also welcome to perform with the group. It aims to preserve and instill appreciation to Philippine Folk Songs and Dances to young Tubignon individuals.

      Damn, saying where you came from or anything to do with your tribe as "something not important" is such a shame. Looks like your mom is passing down some unhealed traumas to you. So happy you found this video to reclaim back what you've lost though. Keep that close to your heart, fam. And never forget it again.

    • @knarff20
      @knarff20  3 года назад +5

      Good day. The banga dance depicts women fetching water, it may be with one banga or piles of bangas. The last part is more likely salidsid dance with man and woman dancing. We are not performing based on literature, but performing for entertainment sir so we add some level of difficulty.

    Thats a salidsid, the banga dance was from ikalinga, but the way you dance, beat the rythm of our gongs and our tradition is diferrent, I wonder what tribes or ethnic mostly composed youre groups. But thanks for potraying our traditions and culture, next time you should practice aur real salidsid and tadok, and the boys also there should someone teach them how to beat the real rythm of the gong, because the banga dance is dance in accordance with the beat of the gong, mostly some tribes in kaling use "sag gaypo"). But thanks like your video content.

    • @knarff20
      @knarff20  3 года назад +3

      My apologies if ever there is something wrong that we've portrayed. The dance was a mix of Banga and Salidsid (carrying the piles of Banga and courtship dance). In regards to the music, we are only trying our best to come up with almost the same and with revisions based on folkdance videos online. Since we came from Bohol, its very hard for me to study the real culture given the Pandemic and geographic location. Im looking forward to visit and learn more about your culture, and hopefully someone would teach us too.

More research please. The beating of the gongs, the movement of the feet and hands, it never came closer to the original.
