The Beatles | Sour Milk Sea (2024 Remix)

- I've created a new stereo mix with more balanced instruments taken from Jackie Lomax's version with George Harrison's vocals taken from the Esher Demo published on the deluxe edition of the White Album in 2018.
Personnel for this song include George Harrison on acoustic and electric guitar (and vocals), Paul McCartney on bass, Ringo Starr on drums, Nicky Hopkins on piano and Eric Clapton on lead guitar.
very bluesy… between a Cream song and old brown shoe feel’! awesome!!!
Badge, right
That's Clapton on the good sounding guitar solo, and it is Chuck Berry like. not cream like. Right?
And Savoy Truffle
@@thisplaceisazoo absolutely!
The rumor I heard around this song is that George actually wanted John to sing it, because he felt John's voice was better suited, but John wasn't interested. Still, this would have been great as part of the White Album, or even All Things Must Pass.
I would have preferred this song on The While Album instead of Revolution 9
I would’ve been fine substituting this for a long, long long
@@timlove1long long long is one of my all time favourite George’s song. It’s a musical prayer. Wonderful piece.
@@FelipeJOrtizWhat's wrong with No 9? :0)
@@timlove1That's a super song! :0)
This song should have been on the White album .
It's okay, it could have rather than should have.
Instead of that garbage Revolution 9
Definitely
@@thejma724 Yep.
@@thejma724best song the album is #9 😵💫
Yet another great song by Harrison. This could have been a famous Beatles song.
This is the first version of this song I’ve heard that made me realize what an incredible song it is.
they need to do this and give it an official mix
The original Jackie Lomax version is killer & has George, Paul & Ringo along with Clapton playing on it. Which is actually this version. The only thing different here is Harrison on the vocals.
This is LIGHT YEARS beyond all other attempts at mixing the demo with the Lomax version. I can easily hear this being on the White Album. The sound of the vocal is exponentially better and the balance of the instrumentation is also so clear and well-positioned now. You are a master!
This song fits perfectly with Savoy Truffle and could be also a perfect follow up in White Album
Yes everything you said is what I was thinking . This is the Lomax backing track isn't it. Who do you think is playing guitar
@@ss51-857 Both Harrison and Clapton are playing guitars on the Lomax backing track (which is the one being used here).
@@ss51-857 George and Eric I think.
@@ss51-857 Clapton.
Dang. This could have been a great addition to The White Album.
Like it if you are here because of the beatles school 😊
Claro que é...rs
Boaa👏🏻👏🏻

Depois de assistir sua aula corri pra cá 🎉❤
Boa!
Kinda reminds me of Savoy Truffle
First think I thought yes
Come on come on come on come on come on come on come on comeoncomeoncomeomocomeon
Yeah, probably why it didn't make it on the White Album.
Exactly what I thought when I first heard it; George in his funky-jam mode.
Yes - George had a number of songs with that "attitude" in the period. A bit of "Old Brown Shoe", "Wah-Wah" and "Bangladesh" come to mind, as well
Ringo is SOLID on drums! Good song!
The Beatles gave away so many great songs. Thing is, they were so prolific that they didn’t have to include these great songs on their albums but this one defo should have at least been on a Beatles album. And Come & Get It that Paul gave to Badfinger. Wouldn’t the world be so much better if The Beatles were still with us ???
I perfectly agree with you !
I often wonder what George and John would be saying about the world events going on today.
Well, in McCartney's book he says that on average it only took him and/or John about 20 minutes to write any song -- so if they gave a few away, they could just write a load more in a couple of hours! Crazy talent! :0)
O, and so many of the Giveaways were George tunes. We almost lost "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"! Thanks, Harrison...thanks, Clapton.
Humility is a beautiful thing
Nick Hopkin's piano licks!
Funny you say Nicky Hopkins cause I first thought it sounded like the stones
@@chubbyoo7 Exile On Main Street
@@azy2034 Actually, every Stones studio album starting with "Their Satanic Majesties' Request" (1967) through "Black and Blue" (1976). He played on at least one song (and sometimes many songs) on all those albums, as well as "Jamming With Edward," recorded during 1969 during a time when no Stones regular guitarist was available (Brian Jones was dysfunctional but hadn't been officially let go yet, Keith Richards was on a brief strike, and Mick Taylor had not joined) and released in 1972 and featuring Hopkins, Jagger on vocals, the regular Stones rhythm section of Wyman and Watts, and Ry Cooder on guitar.
Nicky Hopkins was such a talented keyboardist who added a boost to everything he played on. I remember when I heard the remix of ‘Sympathy For the Devil’ and was floored how amazing his playing in the song was, almost like I heard him for the first time. Here, he does it again. Thanks for the mix and share!
Best version of Sour Milk Sea! Finally someone has done it right, good backing track and good vocal mix there. Just perfect!
Loving George’s vocals on this 👌
Ringo's drums are groovin!
Best Beatles track that wasn't
Thank you for making this! This is the closest we’ll hear to a Beatles version.
I agree, Gilvan. Beautiful song.
Long life The Beatles!! Long life Beatles School!!
You can tell how much it's a sister song to "Savoy Truffle" (which also had a Clapton connection, though he didn't play on it) listening to this mix.
Sounds nothing like Savoy Truffle, It is a Chuck Berry like tune, if you don't think so- pick up your guitar and play both songs. then play sweet little sixteen. or other C.Berry tunes. Same three chord as CHUCK
I'd never heard this until today, I think Clapton changes the dynamic here and it shifts away from feeling fully like a Beatles song.
Another amazing song from George.
I loved the Jackie Lomax version but always wondered about hearing a Beatles version. Great stuff.
This is Jackie's version with George's vocals from a demo dubbed over. The beatles never touched it sadly. Nicky Hopkins on keys btw.
It’ll always be part of the Beatles catalogue as we have the demo version on the White Album Super Deluxe. That being said this remix is great.
Sounds like George told Eric go and have fun. George had a little lead toward the end. Love them together
Of all the mixes I've heard-this is sublime and a go to level.
IF only George had had enough confidence to tell John that Rev. 9 was NOT going on the White Album and they had put this song on it instead. This is AWESOME. From 68 on, George was an equal to Lennon and Macca
This should be put on the radio today
You can hear the intonations of "Savoy truffles".
Much better! No fuzzy or harsh mids. Bigger bottom end. Sounds like the White Album. Nice Job!
His songs were excellent.
And they still are..
The guitar play is so awesome
Huh?
@@guitarcrazyusaare you deaf?
It’s Eric Clapton on lead, mate.
That sounds like Clapton on lead guitar. Thanks for shaing. A great song.
Sure does.
It's possibly Clapton.
It is Clapton.
Because it is!
Absolutely Slowhand!
There is another from George that was absolutely brilliant too
Ringo on drums! Paul on bass! George on guitar! Clapton on lead guitar! Billy Preston on piano! Great George song!
Magnifico George
It's interesting to see how mutch the technology has changed. I attempted this in 2010 using every trick available I could at the time. I ended up creating my own instrumental with the Esher demo in the end :s still, wasn't too shabby! xD
This is obviously a mashup that Apple/Gile Marton SHOULD produce and put on a White Album EP. They have George's isolated vocal tracks from the demo and they presumably have the original backing tracks since they were done at EMI.
this is brilliant - great work.
Sounds great, excellent work!
This is amazing. Really good work!! Thanks for sharing
Brilliant work, thank you!
Rock And Roll !!!
So much smoother and listenable than the raucous and busy Lomax version. This was a very prolific period for George.
thank you great song!
Brilliant! The best version of this so far!
great work ! thank you -- Ive wanted someone to undertake this for years! sounds great!
Thank you so much for doing this! This song (specifically George's esher version) is underrated af , such a shame it didn't end up on the White Album 😭😭
Something worth downloading -- thanks!
Thanks! Good job.
Great job!
Wow! Great work! 👏👏👏
Incredible editing job and mix, I love this tune by the dark horse, thank you! 🐴 😊 🎼
Beautiful mixing
Freakin awesome
this is great!
It really sounds like Beatles! Thank you!
Beatles 🩶 best of our generational talent with so many to pick from they rate top place in many magical
realms
If the volume of George's voice were Louder, it would be perferct.
This vocal is actually considerably louder than old attempts at mixing the demo vocal with the studio version. Maybe not perfect, but if you knew what the older attempts sounded like I think that, like me, you'd be on your knees thanking god right now, LOL
Takes me back here !
Never heard this song......love it !
I love 💕 this.
thanks
Every day I hear a new Beatles song ♥️♥️
Masterpiece
well done
I cannot for the life of me figure out why this song was not on The White Album.
…but Piggies made the cut.
McCartney stuff that were throwaways
@@SmitoonsPiggies is a terrific song
@@John_Locke_108 Agree
@@427bullis Yes, to many
So....THIS didn't make the cut for the White Album, but.....Revolution #9 and Wild Honey Pie DID? Unbelievable.
I like both Wild Honey Pie and R #9. The songs I do not like are Honey Pie (on side 4) and Martha My Dear. McCartney's grandma music. Only 4 places for a Harrison songs on the LP, so this should have replaced Piggies.
@@MostlyBuicks - Well, we apparently have differing musical tastes...and that's okay.
It has a nice dirty, Rolling Stones vibe about it
Es gibt bei Stones Songs keine gute Atmosphäre!
Great song. What a shame it wasn’t allowed on a Beatles album.
It kind of surprise me when the Beatles white album was reissued, they perfectly done something like this good mix that Mr. Visi did. Excellent remix, love it.
Best mix of this song. This song is super tough to mix using current AI tech, so this is very impressive.
AI is evil and it sucks. Avoid.
Sounds a lot like Clapton playing on this ~ In the solo section part 1 is EC, part 2 has that George ring to it.
Ringo in bestform!
Better than while my guitar
Very catchy and brilliant number, the least to say !
This is insane
Hell Yeah!!🔥
very cool
Esta cancion deberia haber estado en el album blanco junto not guilty en vez de la basura de john del Revolution 9
I still like Rev #9 tho
Pqp..nunca tinha ouvido essa pérola...excelente música. Trabalho de órgão e guitarra sensacional. Esse Nick trabalhou a década de 1970 inteira com os stones
If I'm not mistaken, this was recorded at Trident during The Beatles White Album sessions.
If your life's not right, doesn't satisfy you
Don't get the breaks like some of us do
Better work it out, find where you've gone wrong
Better do it soon, you don't have long
Get out of sour milk sea
You don't belong there
Get back to where you should be
Find out what's going on there
If you want the most from everything you do
In the shortest time, your dreams come true
In no time at all, it makes you more aware
Very simple process takes you there
Get out of sour milk sea
You don't belong there
Get back to where you should be
Find out what's going on there
Looking for release from limitation?
There's nothing much without illumination
Can fool around with every different cult
'Cause only one way really brings result
Get out of sour milk sea
You don't belong there
Get back to where you should be
Find out what's going on there
Get out of sour milk sea
You don't belong there
Get back to where you should be
Find out what's going on there
This is the clearest version yet- thank you...This should have taken the place of Revolution 9 ( with two other new tracks ).
Revolution 9 was an astonishing experiment. It definitely deserved its place on the White Album. Sour Milk Sea is an excellent 'pop' track but - as has been pointed out - a very close cousin to Savoy Truffle.
IMHO, as a former audio engineer, the mix is 'muddy' and lacks the crispness to make it a radio hit.
The White Album should be triple
I agree, White Album...but I still love Rev #9. Dump a Paul granny tune
@@karaamundson3964 Say what you will, at least McCartney's 'granny' tunes were actual songs unlike Revolution 9 which was just self-indulgent garbage. And at least none of the granny tunes didn't drone on for well over eight insufferable minutes. And yet crap like this got priority over Harrison's songs. No wonder when the band broke up he never wanted to go back.
This Scouser approves. Sweetest of mixes
Nice song. It would have been great in the White Album.
yes........savoy Truffle version!
How great was Beatle George?! Beautiful playing by the Fab Four backing Liverpool friend and Apple labelmate Jackie Lomax. Listen for the cool organ after 2 minutes. I'm so grateful for the technology that allows this Jackie Lomax track to replace the singer with Harrison's Escher demo vocal. Also, George's lyrics offer sage advice that I try to follow. Thanks RUclips and Mirko Visi!
Killer tune. Much better as a "George" tune.
This is awsome. This togheter with Not Guilty instead of #9 and Good Night.
#9 ok but Good Night , no way
@@chanouribe8300 Good night as it is, fout thumbs down. It does not fit at all, sounds like Phil Spector. It should have been more like some of the outtakes, a more plain normal version.
Replace Rev #1 & Rev #9 both Rev 2.0 (aka Rev take 20). Would be best track on there.
Very well done!! Love it. Any chance you could also provide an instrumental version of this super crisp mix of the song? It sounds so good the way you've mixed it.
The piano!
George mvp
Cool
Muy buena canción, una lástima que Harrison no tuviera más protagonismo
A very George-esque song, reminds me of both Savoy Truffle and Apple Scruffs, in spots. Eric & Nicky filling every possible space! Ringo dropping the odd backbeat as concentration drifts. Hey, it's a loose demo; would've been fun to hear a finished Beatles track of it. (Someone will attempt that with AI, I'm sure.)
I like the Lomax vocals and woulda mixed him in, at least on background vocals.
Brilliant! Can you do Goodbye next, please?
It's a variation of Savoy Truffle.
Eric playing some lead on this.
That was my thought as well. I didn’t know he’d recorded more tracks but that’s Eric (or a sound-alike) on a Les Paul.
Definitely Slowhand!
From a brief read up on this track (thanks Wikipedia) there was a Beatles demo (without Eric but with George singing) but it was given away as a single to Jackie Lomax when it was re recorded with Eric, George, Ringo and Nicky Hopkins. So, my guess is that this is either the Jackie Lomax track or a combination of the Lomax single and the Beatles demo (to bring Harrison’s vocals). I’ve since read the description of this video…
The song would have fit so well just before Revolution 9.
I'd take this on the White Album over Rev 9, or Why Don't We Do It, or Rocky Raccoon, or Don't Pass Me By, or (drug-slow) Revolution, or Wild Honey Pie.
