These days almost every device that can connect to the internet, comes with wifi.
On the other hand, the burden of knowledge is on the consumer, if you don’t do your research, eventually the least of your problems is going to be a WiFi card, custom builds are more for people who know what they’re doing enough to pick all their parts, but don’t want to build it or just don’t know how. Honestly, that’s not even on you guys. That’s 100% on the customer with a Karen mom. I assume the kid who chose the parts didn’t even know what they were doing. I understand the phrase, “The Customer is always correct.” But this is entirely on the customer. I would’ve refused the refund, as the job was done, and it’s entirely on the lack of care put in by the customers when they were sourcing their parts. My point is that the customer should’ve realized it was their own mistake, and not the company that built the PC. If they did research before choosing parts, it wouldn’t have been a problem. I’m not being rude, it’s a matter of personal experience that I speak on this. I built my first PC, and as an inexperienced builder, I didn’t know that MOBO’s don’t all have built-in Wifi adapters. It took a week of just having my PC there until we finally routed an Ethernet cable to my room. EDIT: “Why would you sell a PC if it can’t connect to the internet?” It can, the lady just needs to plug it in using an Ethernet cable.

In this particular case, you should have informed the customer that this motherboard does not have a WiFi adapter. That way, she would not have faced the problem. The business could have billed the Wi-Fi adaptor instead of giving it away for free.
That’s probably a process you should add to BAU IF motherboard doesn’t have built in WiFi AND customer does not request WiFi THEN inform customer it has no WiFi AND suggest adding adapter I’d wager enough of the people buying prebuilt know sufficiently little about computers that it’ll save a few cases like this
The fact that people don’t understand that not all computers just come with Wi-Fi is dumb. Not all people just use their computers to connect to the Internet and people running windows. XP had to manually connect to modems to use the Internet ,people today Just don’t know anything about computers.

You never know even with close friends. My best friend's parents bought a PC from someone they knew and it happened to have a graphics card so he used it for gaming. I was playing GTA Online with him one day when the GPU randomly died and his parents put all the blame on me because I happened to be playing with him online on my own PC when it happened. They thought something I did in the game caused it to happen. Ever since then, they have been using integrated graphics and my friend got banned from using the PC for a long time. It may also be important to note that they only had one PC, so it was kind of a big deal for it to break. Everyone else I knew including my own family had multiple PCs via hand me downs or me building my own and so on so for one to break was just unfortunate but not world ending. Also, it wasn't him who blamed me, it was mostly his parents in the heat of the moment through a lack of understanding. Still not a fun time though.

Most Desktop PCs use wired Ethernet for internet connectivity and don't come with a wireless adapter, but it's an extra USB accessory you could get at any time. You're obviously too nice & I hope that doesn't hurt your business... People suck.
I think you should make people aware that it doesn’t come with Wi-Fi or at least ask them if they want it when ordering it as a lot of people assume it comes built in.
If the customer doesn’t sound like they know about computers you should definitely make sure they know EXACTLY what they’re buying
90+% of destinos dont have wifi.
Yeah I was about to comment about this, if you’re selling prebuilts I think almost anyone has no knowledge of pcs would think WiFI be come with it.
@@jamestuc80
No, desktop PC-s don't have wifi for 90% of the cases.
Anyone who ever used desktop PC-s won't expect wifi.
You sound like the kind of person who wouldn’t make sure a build has wifi despite needing it for whatever reason. Ethernet exists
My computer doesn't have WiFi either. I connect to the internet using wired network connection.
Requesting a refund for not having WiFi is just ridiculous.
Yeah, especially because WiFi is pretty garbage. Things like WiFi 6 have made it better, but it still sucks, and it feels like they just make up new WiFi standards every other week, so it's an incredibly confusing thing to buy into.
@@tbuk8350 lmao, wifi is so much less confusing for most people.
I kind of understand where she’s coming from…I mean, people expect a brand new PC to come equipped with built in WiFi support…it’s different when custom building, I get that, but not everyone knows/understands that.

Shipping company: anyone up for a round of football?
Y'all in the comments don't realize that average people just know that you can connect devices to the internet out of the box so they probably didn't think about it. They probably don't know about ethernet, don't have a port nearby, or a cable that's long enough. Now maybe the mother was a bit rude but for once cut them some slack. Props to you for handling the situation professionally and even providing them with a free adapter.
I love these people. "I frustrated myself, and I'm embarrassed by my ignorance, and its YOUR FAULT."
primary network connection in a desktop PC is the ethernet connection. wifi is generally an option for limited use needs.
How TF do you get an ethernet cable to your PC when the router is in the middle of the house chief
@@Major_Arachnid_1 Just plug cable into router, walk over to the PC, plug other end of cable into PC. easy.
@@Major_Arachnid_1 Who says the router is in the middle of the house, chief?
Most routers are connected to a cable, DSL or fiber adapter, which is typically ran into an outside wall of your house.
Hence, most routers are near an outside wall, like it is in my office right now...
Most pc that are not laptops does not have built-in internet
wifi are not that common in desktop computers. because they are not regularly moved and usually connected to internet via Ethernet wire. more secure and stable connection and lower latency.
when you get told by electrician that it would cost 100s if not 1000s to put in a ethernet port if your house/apartment doesnt have one you are probably not going to buy it like is pocket change or maybe the house has an ethernet in a parents room where a kid isnt playing on a pc. Not everyone has access to ethernet
@@Funny___Dog what do you mean? the ethernet cable that goes into my pc is straight to my modem, which has 4 ethernet ports. put the modem in whatever room the PC is in and turn on wifi on it for the rest of house (TVs, phones and tablets).
or do you mean the DSL port? all houses has that for modem to connect to internet, it costs like $20 extra for my electrician to put a new one in my bedroom while he was here fixing some new lights.
To be honest the $20 adapter is worth making the customer happy, but i would clearly explain the difference in wifi vs ethernet....
I mean I kind of see it from both sides here, The mom probably has almost no idea how PC's work or how most tech work much like a majority of people. She just saw that her son really wanted to game and she's doing her best to provide despite her limited knowledge. I just wish people aren't so quick to anger and show appreciation sometimes. But yea coming from someone who knows a thing or two about PC's that's kind of ridiculous.
As someone who has also worked on a PC Repair Shop that does custom order PCs, this does really happen a lot, specially the Wi-Fi part, I started to warn them before even getting the parts about it.
Ethernet cable: am i a joke to you?
Bruh some people bruh don’t wanna run 100ft of Ethernet cable
I think you should explain if something is missing from the pc and ask if they would want to have that component installed in the pc before delivery since anyone getting their first pc usually won't have that kind of knowledge.
An 11 year old really doesn’t have much use for a custom build over a prebuilt from an OEM like HP, as bad as a lot of those are.
People are spoilt by their phones and laptops, they shouldn’t expect everything to have WiFi built in.
Don’t you love how people get upset when dealing with something they have no knowledge about?
Guy never mentioned the ethernet connector either both are dumb
A rule I learned about customer service and life in general- never say sorry UNLESS you are at fault.
That’s not true in Canada. There is a specific law here where you can’t be held liable if you say sorry for an issue. A lot of the time people just want an apology and this way they can get it without other people leaving themselves open to be sued. It’s a human decency thing.
@@ChicoTunda that’s an odd law, but then again, I’m not from Canada.
There’s no need to say I’m sorry to a customer if there is nothing to be sorry for (unless it’s for a personal reason ie: they say their family member passed).
Customer is at fault they didn’t add the necessary parts or do the research before hand. Saying sorry gives into this ruse people use to get what they want when the company isn’t liable. Have them sue me before I say sorry to blame the company after giving them a grace the first time. Instead of saying sorry, I would have just informed them that #1 reason people come into problems is generally user input errors. He still came on top luckily since he doesn’t do refunds.
@@ChicoTunda ain’t nobody give a fuck Canada is a shit hole. You and the 12 other people that live there can follow your anti free speech tyranny but for the rest of the world that is actually sane we don’t have dumb shit like that.

This is why its so important to teach at least basic IT skills in schools but unfortunately when i ask some of my friends, their schools never even had IT as a mandatory topic.
He definitely should have made her aware that it didn't have wifi capabilities when he sold it, but he did the right thing to resolve it. It's good news if you don't hear back from her anytime soon, means it's working.
They most likely show it somewhere on the website used to spec out their custom PC, but people don't read. Surprisingly, they read even less when spending thousands.
She probably let her child custom build it all she did was pay for it and pick it ip
Its common knowledge that normaly pcs don’t have wifi and they made the configuration so the costumer should know about pcs

gotta love watching people get mad over not doing research before buying something. one time I was at my friends birthday and he got a psvr, when he opened it he was like "WHERE THE FUCK ARE THE CONTROLLERS??" and me and my friend were like "what controllers????" 😭😭😭 good times.
Did it even come with a Keyboard & Mouse??? I MEAN CMONN 🤣
EDIT: “Why would you sell a PC if it can’t connect to the internet?”
It can, the lady just needs to plug it in using an Ethernet cable.

And the year doesn’t mean shit. Wifi is not usually a requirement for PCs and it’s just an extra cost you pay in the mother board or for a dedicated wifi adapter that takes up a whole PCIe slot
Damn some people in this comment section dont understand building computers.
Well, I mean I get where they're coming from since someone who doesn't build PCs wont know it doesn't come with the capability for Wi-Fi.
I'd say just put a disclaimer on the website and point that out to them instead of giving them one for free next time.
The burden of knowledge is on the consumer for a custom build, it’s not even a prebuilt like an OEM would sell. But a warning would be low effort to integrate to his processes and save both time and money from idiots.

NEVER say « sorry » for a mistake you did not make. Otherwise, you implicitly admit YOU made the mistake although you did not. It will dictate the rest of the relation with the customer.
« I deeply regret » is a way more correct phraseology.
Never let the customer reject there fault on you.
Nice commercial move at the end anyway.
Respectfully, that is not the case. Especially in Canada, sorry IS the correct way to phrase it. “I deeply regret” sounds like you’re pushing blame around and is wishwashy. Especially for something like this where it’s so niche to know.
You did mention that she could use an Ethernet cable, right?
I own a business and love what u did yes the customer fucked up but you still being a good person just helped them get what they need and everyone is probably be Tyler of because of it
i understand her confusion about the wifi adapter, if she isn’t someone who is into computers and building them, all of the computers she’s had have had built in wifi

Do they not have cat-5 cables?
My PC has a yellow cable that goes from the back of the tower, into my modem.
You are so nice to your customers
Laughs in ethernet connection
As a business owner, it’s your job to figure out what problems the customer is going to face. In this particular case, you should have informed the customer that this motherboard does not have a WiFi adapter. That way, she would not have faced the problem. The business could have billed the Wi-Fi adaptor instead of giving it away for free.
That’s probably a process you should add to BAU
IF motherboard doesn’t have built in WiFi AND customer does not request WiFi THEN inform customer it has no WiFi AND suggest adding adapter
I’d wager enough of the people buying prebuilt know sufficiently little about computers that it’ll save a few cases like this
Sounds like you just got finessed out of a wifi adapter lol
The fact that people don’t understand that not all computers just come with Wi-Fi is dumb. Not all people just use their computers to connect to the Internet and people running windows. XP had to manually connect to modems to use the Internet ,people today Just don’t know anything about computers.
Absolutely amazing customer service
That mom is way behind the times lol. People really need to adapt and learn how technology works
... or way ahead. It's become standard nowadays for a computer to at least have Wi-Fi, even if it has an Ethernet connection port. Regardless of if it's custom built or not, builders need to take these modern expectations into account as Ethernet is largely starting to fall out of use
Man, she should know better but she's just trying to be a good mum
I feel like this person obviously didn't do their research, but as a builder, you should have the information on your site. The people buying prebuilt PC's arent the type of people who want to be well informed about everything they use, and even adding it into the front spec sheet could help.

I cant run a cable through five feet of wall, pipes and supports
It amazes me how many people have completely forgotten that Ethernet still exists and still a more viable standard than Wi-Fi.
This is why I don't build for people just extremely close, knowledgeable friends. Btw that expending foam is sick.
