- I had a dew people ask for this so here it is. The complete start to finish how to install world of warcraft classic and curse forge addon installer to the Steam Deck.

Excellent walk through my friend. I ended up putting installing it the hard way, so the Lutris drop was absolutely fantastic. What brought me here was the curse forge app (since I modded it the hard way too and just didn't want to deal with it again hahaha.)

@@retroroadkill Sorry, another question. I noticed in one of your previous videos you had Zygor installed for questing (I used that alot when I had a PC for classic). Do you install that with Lutris as well? I don't have access to a PC for the copy to a USB drive trick. Thanks very much.
@@Olmud I zipped the file from my pc game and sent it through one drive. Then had to find the warcraft game folder. It takes time because warcraft game file shows up as a bunch of numbers on a Linux computer. Anyway hope that helps.

Fantastic guide, thank you so much. I had no idea curseforge had released a Linux client for WoW-- this makes everything so much easier! I also didn't know about Lutris, I had to download WoW and all my addons the hard way for awhile! This deserves way more views from people trying to use their steam deck to enjoy the game to the fullest! I will say, getting a dock for the steam deck so I can use my mouse and keyboard situationally was a game changer. Hard to run high mythic+ using consoleport 😅

When I scan for wow in curseforge it finishes in a few second saying it found nothing
bro i just gave u the best explanation of the fix but automod removed it bc i used . local it thought it was a link or sumthing omg
idont wanna type all that again. but basically just make a shortcut folder in ur downloads folder to ur wow folder in the . local section
To solve that, I just started the game once, and it was insta-detected ;)
I've got this problem too...
Mine is doing the same thing. I had to put wow on the E drive because of storage space. Is there a way to have curse scan different drive folders?

yes. once installed it puts battle net in your steam library

To me when I launch the serch or try to manually do it, its like curse forge dont have acces the the local files and dont find anything and I cant have manual acces to them as the window they give dont show the files or even give the option to show them
I don't really understand the problem curse forge has with linux but i just closed the program down in the past and relaunched it and it somehow finds the location.

When i try to run curse forge i get "For security reasons, launching executables is not allowed in this context". Anyone else get this?

I downloadet manually and it works with no curseforge
Where do I extract it to?
I created a new folder under the home tab, called it curse forge, and I extracted it there. Works like a charm.

Experiencing the same thing as other recent commenters. The launcher is infinitely loading, and closing / even restarting the Steam Deck does not help. I tried forcing Proton Experiment and Proton 7.0-4 with no luck - any tips? It worked immediately after installing but now that I’m coming back to it (same day) it seems completely busted.
When it's stuck on loading the launcher have you tried pressing the steam button and closing the game. Second time trying it usually starts. I'll look at mine today to see if anything has changed. Sorry your having issues 😫
I don't understand, I have wow installed and when I hit the curseforge scan it doesn't find the game.
come out of curseforge then reload it and see if it finds the game.
@@retroroadkill I restarted the console several times and it didn't work, in the end what I did was download the addons and paste them in the wow folder.
my next suggestion was going to be hit the scan button. glad you got it working. I'm happy to find console ports working on classic again :)

Hey , if there is any chance you could help. I'm so close to getting wow working lovely but I've got some weird experience. When I first log into a character - it is still in "steam controls' and nothing from the console port add-on is registering, it's just a completely separate controller config. However I've worked out if I hold down the hamburger button (3 lines next to X and Y ) it somehow changes and then console port suddenly starts working? Do you know why this is ? Why doesn't it just work immediately?
So when it's like this it's actually quite lovely - it uses the trackpads as the mouse and left and right click which works really perfectly. HOWEVER! If I then press the burger button again, the mouse control on trackpads goes away and then the trackpad starts to move my camera instead...? And then I can't get the mouse back without a full restart and I go through the steps again... I'm very close to getting it properly working, but these slight inconsistencies are stopping me getting stuck in. If anyone can offer any advice that would be really great.
Actually think I've fixed this by setting the steam controls to keyboard and mouse, and then the hamburger button seems to switch between two different control figurations for some reason? BUT with keyboard and mouse selected instead of gamepad track pad, for some reason the track pad stays as mouse now even when I switch between using the hamburger button.. anyone know why the hamburger button switches controls up?

I had to remove it because it was like 1 and every 20 attempts I got in... Too inconsistent, having to exit the application, which don't exit, restart the deck multiple times in hopes you might get in. I tried both methods I found on youtube and none seem to work well now, maybe it was a recent steam update idk... I hope this gets smoothed out for Dragonflight

you should have battle net launcher in your library
Does this still work after the latest "stable" update? I installed wow a different way and now it gets stuck on the Steam loading screen, and restarting steam is the only way to close it and try again.. If this method works then I'll consider reinstalling everything.
Sometimes the launcher just don't start up on the first go. Have no idea why. Always have to press the steam button, close game and try again. Always works second time. As far as does it work, as far as I know it still works fine.

With how easy it is to play WoW on a controller I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if it comes out for Xbox once Microsoft completes their purchase.
Yeah I'm thinking the same.
Hoping for the same because at this point all the external work people do is so complex. It got better over time but it’s still a nightmare to set up, games should be more streamlined for all platforms. The market definitely changed but there are still huge gaps of pc titles not updating their systems. I think once Microsoft takes over it will look sick. It’s already quite nice with dragonflight and how much was changed UI wise.
When using console port does it mess with your controls and key binds when you play back on your pc?
Only if you change the buttons. You have to be inventive with were you put them. Hide the extra ones you want to use on bars you don't use on pc.
Hello sir, when i check my curseforge for wow it still doesnt find it. any solutions ?
try pressing sync? try shutting the window and open up again. make sure you have loaded wow up atleast once or it won't create the folders curse forge looks for.

I'm unsure of the question. are you asking were to extract the zip folder? just extract it in the same place (downloads) or something.

Have you noticed any issues with it? I had it installed and after like 1.5 to 2 hours of play time it would lock up and I would have to force close it and reload the game, have you experienced this at all?
No I have not sorry? I play it in the evening laying in bed mostly. For maybe 2 hours. Never had it freeze. I've had overwatch 2 freeze and the division but not wow.

did you download the linux version of curseforge?
It works just fine. The only thing I will have to do is being able to control my character. I know how to move, look up and down. Press the X button to fight, an get the map. Other than that it would be nice if there was an easy guide for this.

@@retroroadkill mine doesn't look like yours when I download the installer though, it doesn't just open straight away and asks me what program to execute in. Any advice?
I did everything to the T, but when I load it on game mode it acts like it'll open but then it just stops. Reinstalled and did this all 3 times.. Desktop mode works fine. Any ideas?
just make sure its loading with proton. Pick a different version if it doesn't work and try again. go to the battlenet launcher on steam os and click the cog (settings). In there you can set the launch options.

Is this only for classic wow or will also work with DF because I'm in the blizzard launcher and it's hanging up on installing wow
It works with both. Make sure you got space to install them.

I'm having an issue when first launching in steam os. I seem to get stuck on the steam loading wheel. Tried the last few proton layers but still no go 😫
Any ideas what I can do??
It seems to happen now and then. Press steam button and then quit game. Try again and usually it works second time.

it sometimes doesn't find the folder on first load up i've noticed. try closing down and open up again. check the drop down menu
I Cant log in after i start the setup.exe in steam… the log in screen is show up but the deck wont let me tip my log in .. it dont react in any way!!

Steam button and start to bring up keyboard. All login is easier to do in desktop mode then switch to big picture mode.

about wow tho, i know i sound wierd, but can you play retail? cuz all videos i see is classic or wrath of the lich king.
you can connect it to a monitor and use it as a normal pc yes

@@luayma8266 the temp doesn't make any difference. the game plays 60fps with no issues. battery will last around 3 hours.

If you talking about addons, you need to find the interface addons folder.

im not seeing linux on there so i take it this no longer works
just loaded it up on my steam deck and i can confirm it still works fine. Why wouldn't it? Your using lutris thats been used on linux computers for a number of years now (since 23 February 2010).
@@retroroadkill i figured it out i got wow on there and console port im surprised how smooth the controls are only thing i havent figured out is how to tab target on the deck once i figure that out ill be gucci
Curse forge does not find my world of warcraft install either also, you tell us to extract it but you don't tell us. Which of those three we are supposed to extract it to..for curseforge?

there is a linux version of curseforge listed on the curse forge site. Since your using a linux pc i would download the linux version.
He means you say "extract it" but then you don't show it. I've never used linux in my life until steam deck, i was also confused as to where to extract the curseforge file to after downloading it when it's just a zip file. @StickyQuince

I seem to be having the same issue as @traiansuciu8990 where I followed your guide but it is stuck on the steam loading screen. Even restarting it doesnt seem to help.
It should already be on but try clicking on the settings cog for battle net In the steam library and see if proton is used for start up.
whenever i try to use the curseforge download it just tries to extract it.
your clicking on the extract file by the sounds of it. look for the application were you extracted it to.
@@retroroadkill so i managed to find it and have it up but it cant find the game even though i can see them in the corner like you did, i can download the addons.
@@aguinchico6536 sometimes it struggles to find the game folder. you can navigate through the folders yourself or try turning it off and on again a few times and sometimes it finds the right folder for you... Sorry its annoying i know
@@retroroadkill so it's found it, but none of the add-on load in.
@@aguinchico6536 on curse forge at the top right make sure the right version of the game is selected. It can sometimes show up as multiple versions of the same name. So try each one.
