Very informative videos. I am 63 and just started trapping here in Alaska. I got my first Martin yesterday. I now feel that I can properly skin and dry my pelts without ruining them. Keep up the good work.
Jim has the mixture down to a science. Proportions, temp, moisture, timing & so on. Great when it works but you wouldn't want to damage any pelts. Pretty cool to have one all the same, all the best ..William
You welcome, I believe Jim use to dry his foxes that way, fur side out with tubes of warm air blowed inside the pelt, probably it has to do with numbers. In the vid new marten boxes I give the dimentions of the pieces & I used 18 gague, 1 1/4 staples to fasten together, that staple gun is great for this. Thank you for the feedback, appreciate it & i'm sure Jim does to ..!!
Yes this is great for me because I get to spend more time on the trapline & sometimes I get back in the evening & might get a phone call & could be gone for a few days so makes things more manageable, my line would be much shorter if not for this setup ..!!
Thank's, After drumming the pelts are packed up & shipped by truck to North Bay, after the pelts are received at the depot there is no shipping charges from the depot to North Bay as far as I know. Yes thanks, looking foreward to the auction ..!!
Another great video buddy thanks for shareing this.love how he clean the furs beautiful, your pelts look great be for they gos two the fur auction, jims doing a great job with the furs keep up the great work, love your new video my friend keep them comeing......
Thank you, I'm not sure where Jim got that from, for some reason I think he got it from somewhere in the states but thats as much as I know. Thank's again ..!!
As a former trapper, fur farmer & current agent for fur harvesters he's a master fur handler for sure, easily shows in the videos. Appreciate the comment & I'm sure Jim does as well ...!!
Great video William.!!! i've never seen this done before and as i said before,Jim sure knows what he's doin',,getting you the best grade for your fur..all the more reason you should buy him some liquor.!!! lol
For a first year that's great, your hooked now, look out next year. I believe I was making plans for next year on opening day ...lol That's the way it is, always looking ahead making changes when necessary ..!!
That's some beautiful fur. You sure caught alot of them!! Even though our raccoon and Coyote get thick fur here in Kentucky, we don't get but a few dollars per pelt- Last year was $3 for Raccoon, and around $5 for Coyote but this year there's no market for southern fur. I still like to trap them though for predator control to help out the game animals I hunt. Great job trapping my friend!
Thank you, Jim's a pro at this if there's such a thing ..lol thank's again, man the drum sure puts the finishing touches to the fur, looks amazing when Jim's finished with it ..!!
Thank's man, yes the small ones comes right out but the major ones is best to leave them alone, may do more damage than good. Not a 100 but getting up there, good $ foresure. I'll have a keen interest in the auction foresure ..lol Thank's again ..!!
So do you get billed for drumming of your furs by FHA like I do or do you pay Jim direct. I cant imagine I get the custom touch you get having Jim drum your fur. Great video again.

+Charles Manning Thank you, was over Jim's today (fur master) a lot of fur coming in today, every one getting their fur in for the March auction. One fellow 82 years of age came in with 22 marten I think it was, tough feller, stills gets around in the bush, hope I'm that good ah shape at that age ...lol

Thanks William! I'm going to hunt one of these down for sure. I have a very early Garmin model, but it doesn't compare to whats out there now and besides, on this old one, if the batteries go dead or you change batteries, all the info is lost!
If I was going to keep fur for display for a lengthy period of time I would get it tanned...For drumming I heard tell of people using a old cloths dryer & sawdust, can't see why it would not be somewhat effective ..!!!
Thank's, he sure does, the pelts are right soft when they come's outta the drum, you wouldn't be apply to shake them like that normally, made my head turn to when I first seen it ..lol
I use the Garmin 60 GPSMAP 60 csx, I would recommend this gps to anyone, wouldn't be able to say enough good things about her, I would easily buy this one again, hope this helps ..!!
Fur Harvestors has a web site, just google fur harvestors & you should get it. On their home page they got contact info under the heading (About Us) hope this helps ..!!

Thank you, really appreciate it ..!!
May I ask what brand/model # of GPS device you use for locating your sets? Looks like just the thing I could use too! Thanks!
Thank's, he sure does & you welcome ...!!
Are the furs you are drumming already tanned?
No they go to the auction like this, its up to the buyer if he wants to tan them or not....
Where do I send my marten to if I want to send it to FHA
wow 90?how many traps do u usually use
Thanks for the great information but what do you do if you don't have the availability of a drum what you do then?
You can send your fur to the auction house not drummed, it does not have to be drummed to ship, they get a lot of fur that way ..!!
I live in southern ontario how would i keep the fur without drumming it
If I was going to keep fur for display for a lengthy period of time I would get it tanned...For drumming I heard tell of people using a old cloths dryer & sawdust, can't see why it would not be somewhat effective ..!!!
How many martens was that?
do you just drop off the frozen animal and he does the rest?
he sure knows how to handel hides ,watching him spank out the sawdust was puting me on edge ,hoping one would,nt split at any moment .great job
how much will you get for all them pelts?
Thank's, he sure does, the pelts are right soft when they come's outta the drum, you wouldn't be apply to shake them like that normally, made my head turn to when I first seen it ..lol
I have got lots of things out of this series, thanks
