    Way too much time talking about his preferred orientation. Over and over and over. I especially like the fact that when he needs to increase the brightness of the lights he’ll have to slide the dimmer to the bottom. Intuitive.

      Dude, foreal. It's almost like a dark subconscious agenda that he may have. Light is *always* on top while dark is below...

    This video is a perfect example of why RUclips removing dislikes can cost people their lives.
    Putting a switch upside down is dangerous. So is electrical tape use inside the housing. I can see people suing RUclips (google) over things like this.

      Sam, I LIKE WHAT YOU SAID!
      The twit that posted this video is the worst excuse for an electrician I have ever seen. From orientation to black tape, to not understanding the wiring, to not having a clue about adjusting, to attaching copper wire to aluminum wire. This guy will kill someone.

      Putting the switch upside down itself is not the dangerous part or the tape, it’s the people that work on it. You can put a switch upside down but just make sure it’s wired correctly. I’ve never seen anyone do this on purpose tho as it just makes no sense. Electrical tape is also non conductive so there is no problem with using it, only problem is it may take a little longer if you were to replace the switch in the future.

    If you had connected the red & white striped wire to the light (instead of connecting the solid red wire), then the switch would have worked in the standard manner (i.e. pressing the the top of the switch would turn the light on, and pressing the bottom of the switch would turn the light off). You might consider reposting a new video showing it connected with the red/white wire, as your current video is essentially installing it the switch in the opposite way of how it is intended to work.

    • @jonnyz5758
      @jonnyz5758 Год назад +1

      So im assuming the solid red wire is for the 3 way switch correct? And the stripped white red wire is for a single pole application?

    • @marcphillips4971
      @marcphillips4971 Год назад +1

      @@jonnyz5758 For a 3-way switch setup, both the solid and striped red wires are used. FOR SINGLE POLE: either the solid red or the striped red will be used, and the only way to determine which is to try it out.... I say this because I installed the switch in three rooms. In two of the rooms the solid red wire led to an upside-down/reverse functionality, and I had to switch it to the striped red wire to get the switch to function in the standard manner. BUT, in my third room, I was surprised that the striped wire caused the switch to perform in an upside-down/reverse fashion, and I had to use the solid red wire to get the switch to perform in the standard manner. So, it is a trial and error; try either one of the red wires at first, and if the switch behaves properly, leave it that way....but if the switch behaves in the upside down manner, then just swap out the red wire you tried with the other red wire. I am not an electrician, just a home-owner, but that is what I found out when installing these switches myself.

      @@marcphillips4971 We are currently having this issue. The top pressed down is OFF and the bottom pressed down is ON. Have you had any issues? I think we may try using the red and white stripe wire. I just want to be sure that is safe.

      @@bradyhunsberger I am not an electrician, just a DIY install, but to answer your question: I installed my switch with the Red & White Striped wire attached to my light/load, and it continues to work perfectly over a year after installing it.

    does the wiring orientation matter if your replacing a switch that has two other switches that do the same thing. I have 3 switches all control two sets of recessed lighting . two switches is a basic flip the other is a older toggle/dimmer switch

    I have this dimmer next to a leviton dimmer and the fins are right up against the leviton dimmer. Is this a danger that they are touching?

  • @Thetruthhurts708

    An electrician installed our switch. Now on occasion the light flickers on/off at a high rate so it can't be used. The electrician said maybe there are some wires touching that is creating some sort of short, but I've gone in and adjusted the wires and no improvement. Is it possibly as faulty unit?

    Will this Lutron dimmer work with a switched loop application? My project is on a house built in the 80s and instead of power coming to the switch and going to the light, it goes to the light first with only a single 14-2 romex going to the switch to control live and load.

    • @jonnyz5758
      @jonnyz5758 Год назад

      Yes, these dimmers are specifically for applications like this. Where a neutral in the box is not available. So a switch loop works with this dimmer

      Make sure you're using dimmable bulbs. Not all are the same either, so if you're getting some dimming but it's not working how it should I would try brand name dimmable bulbs. That is if you're using led or CFL, incandescent will always be able to be dimmed.

    I really don’t understand why they added aluminum wires to these most houses are copper and you have to use special connectors not just wire nuts to connect copper to aluminum and they are expensive. I’ve not even seen a newer light fixture that includes copper wiring at all they are all aluminum and none of them have bulbs that you can change I don’t understand how the stuff gets underwriter listed
