I paid two bucks for this game and it looks fantastic on the Switch Lite. I really like it and it’s on sale right now!! Edit: It’s on the e-shop on sale right now.
I never really played top gear 2, but I played top gear 3000 on the snes. I did later try top gear 2 on an emulator and seems pretty similar IMO, except for the futuristic aspect with top gear 3000.
In terms of pure fun arcade racing, sure. But it's not really something you'd play if you want a more authentic experience. It's still fun to the moon and back, no doubt.
Not digging mobile games to the Switch. It's a VIDEO GAME CONSOLE NOT A SMARTPHONE. A company needs to build a racing game from the ground up. I'd rather they port over something like Burnout Paradise
If I don’t need to purchase microtransactions like I do on a mobile game, that’s good enough for me. Pay once, and unlock everything by just racing more is fine by me.
"non bias" he is trying to review the game saying that is ok, when we can clearly see is a mobile game port with no changes so it feels cheap and free to play game. Quick cashgrab Whit no effort to improve it
The fact that this game is less a simulation and more the arcade type is the main reason I'm getting this. Simulation to me seem more boring, I'm definitely picking it up once it goes for sale.
Heya, RGT 85! Both Gear Unlimited 1 and Gear Unlimited 2 are now on the sale on Nintendo EU eShop. Gear 1 comes at 9,99 EUR, whereas Gear 2 is at 15,99 EUR. Both have a huuuuge discount. But having seen many reviews of both titles, including Your own, as well as those few actual comparisons of them, I am not really sure which one to pick (if any). Gear 1 is now much much cheaper, and I have read that there were not that many improvements form Gear 1 to Gear 2, so....? Any suggestions or wisdom that You could impart on this topic? Pretty please? :)
@@wrathpsp Well, neither :). I ended up getting physical copies of Paradise Burnout and NFS Remastered Edition cause the discount was nice and I always try to prioritise physical editions over digital (you can share, exchange and whatnot). Now, looking back, I am kinda not regretting it, since Paradise and NFS are IMO bigger titles than Gear Unlimited.
@@emilyp.4100 Thanks for getting back to me and sharing your experience. Not many people can be bothered lol. I did the same as you and got paradise and hot pursuit but I'm still tempted with gear club being £2.68 on the eshop atm :p

I love video game racers and I'm a sucker for simple arcade racers. outrun, classic & 2006, Ridge Racer, all time favorite Ridge Racer 1 on PSP. but I'll be honest with you I had a blast with this game it's not asking for. it's just Balls to the walls racing whoever gets to the Finish Line wins and move on. what it reminds me the most of is a spiritual sequel to Ridge Racer on PSP if there were nitrous canisters to the left and a drift system on this game I swear to you it feels like a Ridge Racer game. Anyway, mindless fun. well worth the ten bucks it cost me. and this is probably going to become my new casual go to game
I'm actually enjoying this game! A lot. It fits really nice to the portable mode thanks to those short race-style circuits and also the addition to rewind it's great. Instead of having to restart the whole race again you just go back to when you did that mess and try to fix it.
Weather/time of day effects? What are the the crashes like - is there crash damage? Does it support any kind of driving peripherals (does the switch period)?
RGT 85 Very true. Either way, it would definitely do Nintendo and the Switch system a whole lot of good to release a state-of-the-art racing game that is more of a simulation title rather than arcade style. Nothing against arcade racers, but a great racing sim is, to me at least, a must for any system to be successful long term.
Cruis'n Blast is a recent arcade game that looks great. Bound to be Switch version at some point but it needs to be fleshed out with more tracks as the arcade version only takes about 10-12 minutes to complete.
Thank you for reviewing all these smaller releases. There are so many of these on the switch that I always wonder about. I've tried several such as Perception due to your videos. Please keep it up!
I preordered this solely on the fact that Eden Games is in on it. They helped out on TDU2, which was an insanely good game on the xbox 360 and ps3 until everyone walked away. After mentioning that, I'm disappointed that there are none of those nice cutscenes or the open-world online experience on Test Drive. It is fun, but overall, I'm let down because of my perception of a console game :[
I kinda want Eden games to do well so they consider making exclusives just for Nintendo and hopefully consider online. This is a console exclusive and i will be buying a physically copy. To all that don't know, this game is a exclusive at gamestop if you want it physically.
Bought this on sale for 24 and at that price ive already got my money's worth. I'm pleased with this games efforts at 24 bucks. If y'all were on the fence cause the price like I was I would reconsider now. It's good mindless racer fun.
The price is a bit high but if you look around you can get it for about 35 € instead of 50 € (in Europe, obviously). And I think they already announced 2 DLC-Packs as free updates.
Good review. Price point is a bit high but I'll get it anyway as I prefer arcade style (ridge racer etc) racing. Not bothered about online racing, ghost racing suits me
It prob looks better on switch screen because of pixel density. only 720p in handheld, but it's all crammed into a tiny screen, maybe 7in, and that kinda hides a lot of the issues you get in 1080p/docked, where you really see the aliasing going on on the big screen. I noticed the same thing with Rocket League as well the first time I played it in docked mode.
50 US Dollars, a racer in the modern day not even at a locked 30fps (when it ran at 60fps on mobile), and no online. This is a shovel ware tier release for Switch imo. It's just serviceable because it doesn't take a ton of work for developers to get the most out of the hardware like previous Nintendo handheld gens. This is the Switch's Asphalt 3D.
Enjoyed the review - if you review racing games in future, could you show us some different camera angles, or let us know which, if any, are available? Unless I missed it.
I've been watching Gear Club on the Switch for a while, finally decided to get it, no regrets, it seems like a game that will last me enough, visuals are ok for the Switch in portable mode, although it looks dated on the TV, almost like an xbox game. As for the FPS, feels ~30fps when setting the camera on the back of the car (and when many cars are on screen) and >30fps when setting the hood camera. Controls are ok-ish, haven't tested the gyro controls, the joycons are not friendly to control a steering wheel, the Hori controller works a lot better specially with some cars that have some crazy steering. Its a bit expensive for a mobile p2w game, sure its not p2w on the Switch but the origins still show up. Hopefully it's selling well to justify a new entry or encourage other devs to release more racing games, Real Racing could work very well here, lookign forward to see an F1 or GRID on the Switch in the future.
I'm going to get this game. I'm glad they have made a racing game for the Switch. At least when I fancy something different from Forza 7 and GT: Sport I can play this. Can you purchase this game digitally? I haven't checked, am being lazy.
I bought the game, and it does fill the void for those who like realistic racing games. That said, no online multiplayer is a real bummer. I also feel the overworld map for choosing races is overly complicated. Everytime I win something, three alternative places open up, and clearly I can't do them all at once. It's extremely easy to lose track of what you've accomplished. The benefit of this massive, confusing map is that there are a ton of races, as the reviewer has said, but that leads to another issue: too many of the courses feel like near duplicates. There may be three or four areas, each with fourish tracks, where all of the tracks have the same setting and are so interchangeable that you get a constant feeling of dej Vu. The graphics are pretty solid, minus water effects (and especially waterfalls), which look a few generations behind. I wish there was in-race music. But it's worth buying for Need for Speed type fans who feel Mario Kart won't suffice. Now, if there is ever a sequel, I'd love to see it fall more in the vein of San Francisco Rush from the N64. Straightforward pick a course from a list. Pick a car from a list. Unlock as you go. None of this silly bouncing all over a cloud-obscured overworld map BS. SF Rush was full of secrets and shortcuts... so much fun. And even way back then, the cars took damage. They can keep the customizations and the stars/money as prizes, but everything else should be simplified, and they need to add in online multiplayer.
Man, I wish other game developers would realize not everyone has perfect vision and can read super tiny fonts! Kudos to these guys for providing an easy to read font!
Yes, nothing worse than having a 65" tv or so and the writting is tiny, I've been bothered by that countless times and its an insult to human intelligence. How-ever some games are giving you choice for in game font size such as A.C. Mirage, so lets hope everyone does the same.

RGT 85 I mean I haven't played much Turismo since I haven't had any playstations since ps1, but what I've played of Forza (3 and 4) satisfied all my racing simulation needs. Gorgeous games... And I haven't even touched anything more recent then 4
i agree. Gran Turismo was THEE racing sim up to GT4. GT4 was soooo good. I just bought GT Sport and its just meh. I only play it for the VR mode lol. Makes me wish I had a Xbox so i can play forza.
I'm about to go pick up my pre order from GameStop, I like Phycical copies of games. Just makes my collection look nicer vs digital downloads, however..... if digital is the only way to go for a specific game? Then I'll buy that game in that format. I don't mind the no online gaming deal, I actually enjoy the old days of playing the N64 and GameCube which I still own with friends in person, but it is pretty fun to also play online.
I don't like the fact devs choose how long i have to play. they made Fifa18 faster (gameplay) becaus the switch is "playing on the go" I don't want to do short races either. If takes longer then expected you put the switch in sleepmode. when you start again the game is still running. Whats the problem? I don't think they make these game faster/or short for playing on the go.

John Taylor my sister pre-order game last week and its on its way now. Found site on nintendo life as they were advertising it. However price gone up to 31 pound now. Think 29.99 price point was just for pre-order time period but Now game out its gone up bit.
I pick it up I think they should have more laps because 1 lap sucks at least 3 laps other than that I like it and I wish you can use any car for any track
Did you get this game code for free from a publisher ? Or did you pay for the title yourself ? If you did get a game code , do you have a policy of telling your sub's up front ?
A lot of people would consider this crazy, but I game FOR racing simulators. I guess the switch was never made for that, but I would definitely pick up a Switch if it had a sim. They should bring Mudrunner- a Spintires game to switch!!
I feel like I should put my opinion in, obviously this is no modern racing sim. It certainly doesn’t match forza, BUT! What this game does provide is a fast paced racer that casual racing game fans can use to get used to more realistic gameplay while they save up for a full setup for forza or grand turismo. However what seems to be the biggest problem for many people aside from price is graphics and realism. But had this game come out on the ps2 back when I was a little younger it would probably have matched the older grand turismo, and it certainly feels right in terms of speed. When you hit 220 in the p1 on a long straight it feels like you’re actually going that fast. Overall it’s simplicity and lower difficulty make it a good beginners racing game and while it may be worth more along the lines of $30-$44 it’s an experience that grows on you and you can really appreciate the effort a mobile game company put in, even if they didn’t really use all of the switch’s potential
I bought this this morning. I'm going to edge satisfaction return it. So bad. Reeks of a mobile. Waiting to try it docked, but I don't have high hopes.
I was under the impression it had online multiplayer. Finding out it lacks this feature, the price point is too high. I'll pick up the game when it sees a price drop for some good local multiplayer fun. Until then, I'm happy with FAST RMX

free on iphone and 40€ οr 45$ for switch is like a joke. We need a racing simulator. Switch is not only for kids.
+Alejandro Dulché the original mobile is online only
Alejandro Dulché it’s not worth $50
Alejandro Dulché there are a hand full of mobile racing games that look much better than this for 5$ or less
Lovely channel. You should change the name to your catchphrase, "What Not". Merry Thanksgivingmas.
Also forget baseball and hockey games. And American football outside of mutant league
Super Mega Baseball 3 is a awesome game .
If only we could get a Forza game on the switch. Forza is the best realistic racing game I've ever played.
+cheesewheel you like it more than Gran Turismo?
RGT 85 I mean I haven't played much Turismo since I haven't had any playstations since ps1, but what I've played of Forza (3 and 4) satisfied all my racing simulation needs. Gorgeous games... And I haven't even touched anything more recent then 4
cheesewheel lol that game filled with Rammers?
LOL, Forza is a simcade. Try rFactor 2 or Assetto Corsa for a real simulation, not that arcade Forza
i agree. Gran Turismo was THEE racing sim up to GT4. GT4 was soooo good. I just bought GT Sport and its just meh. I only play it for the VR mode lol. Makes me wish I had a Xbox so i can play forza.
$25 - $30 tops for this game. I will stick with MK8D.......Rockstar we need GTAV on The Switch , play on the Go......👍👍👍😎😎😎💀💀💀
Red Dead Redemption.
Yay for you!
Impossible. Itll never happen. I like LA noir but the switch kinda struggles with it and its dated
Eddie Perkins GTA 5 ran on the Xbox 360 and PS3 though and the switch is more powerful than both of them combined so it can run it.
Switch would get maybe 3 frames per second playing gta 5.
Its 3$ on the eshop now get it!
Does it have different cameras? Bumper, hood, cockpit etc?
I'm about to go pick up my pre order from GameStop, I like Phycical copies of games. Just makes my collection look nicer vs digital downloads, however..... if digital is the only way to go for a specific game? Then I'll buy that game in that format. I don't mind the no online gaming deal, I actually enjoy the old days of playing the N64 and GameCube which I still own with friends in person, but it is pretty fun to also play online.
does this game offer the option to remove the racing line ? I HATE racing lines ...
I'll get it day one... Not a huge fan of online anyway.
And seems like a fun title!!!
You should check out Implosion, a mobile gane on Switch done right.
Thanks man, this is such a useful review! Also, love your beanie
Am definitely still picking it up. Ive seen it for £29.99 :p
Tate231283 Where?

John Taylor my sister pre-order game last week and its on its way now. Found site on nintendo life as they were advertising it. However price gone up to 31 pound now. Think 29.99 price point was just for pre-order time period but Now game out its gone up bit.
This game reminds me of Asphalt for 3ds
Any kind of steering wheel support, Logitech or Switch wheel?
It’s $6 on sale, no complaints!
I got it from my friend as a birthday gift. I can't stop playing it.
Why does this game feel like f zero gx?
today its $3 in the eshop
Someone count how much says “what-not”
I bought this this morning.
It is in sale at EB games and I bought it for $29.99
