"Breathe a little bit behind you." That was the solution to my breathing woes. Trust me this little detail brings your breathing-arm coordination together. You can go faster, it's easier, more efficient, you don't tire so easily, you get more time to breathe and the whole process becomes smoother! Yes!!!! Yes, yes, yes! I go back to my class on Monday and I'm gonna try breathing behind me! Thinking back at how much water I drank, every time I turned my head I was drinking 'bow water'. My instructor says my form is really good, my legs are good, everything is good but I always drink water and it makes me stop. This little difference is all I need to finally go the whole length of the pool. As of now, I can make it about halfway, it's just that breath that messes me up.
Awesome! I'm so happy that you are confident in the technique you learned in this video. Please try this on Monday and let me know how it goes! I am confident that you'll perfectly breathe using this technique. 😊 - Niraj (CDO)
Update:I didn't drink any water, it went very well. Now I just have to work on not trying to swim so hard. My instructor says that I'm too tense so I end up using too much energy and then I get tired way too fast. But my breath has made a drastic improvement, it's crazy how something so simple can make such a huge difference.
Amazing! I'm so proud of your progress. As you are now improving with your breathing, you will surely get calm after some sessions. Breathing is the most important part. Keep me updated on your progress. - Niraj (CDO)

THANKYOU SO MUCH! I have struggled for ages to get my breathing right and the tips given in your video have unlocked my breathing technique difficulties. In particular the 2 stroke tempo and also face position tips real game changers.
Yes, it's gamechanger for a majority of swimmers. Most swimmers tend to breathe on the side and beginners breathe in front of them which is totally wrong. Breathing behind you is the most efficient way when swimming freestyle.
I’m so excited that I’ve found this channel. Your decision to commit such a large portion of your energy to teaching people how to swim is so inspiring in more ways than you think… LIFE CHANGING MAN!!! thanks for what you do and have done!!! I so bad want to be the guy who can get in a pool and swim 10-20 laps but the fact is, after 1 trip down the pool I need to hold on the edge and gather myself, by the time I make it back to where I started, I’m so physically exhausted I pretty much need to climb out of the pool and lay on the side to catch my breath. Im not sure why swimming is so hard for me as I played multiple sports pretty high up my entire youth and I’m in pretty decent shape as a 40 yr old guy. But swimming requires a HUGE amount of coordination and I just can’t seem to put it all together. Im planning to retire from my corporate job in the next 12 mos and one of my lifelong goals is to become a proficient swimmer and dedicate however much focused energy needed to accomplish this goal. I have 3 young boys and I have a strong desire for them to grow up being able to swim. Let’s be honest (if someone fell in the water beside me and was drowning…. I’d have to run and find somebody who can save them, and if it was one of my kids….. that can’t happen - all because “I can’t swim”. Your videos teach in detail all the things I’m really bad at and do incorrectly. I’m confident that I can learn and become proficient - through your videos and lessons. Thanks man!!! LIFE CHANGING for sure
I want to sincerely thank you for your wonderful comment. Your words mean a lot to me, and I'm truly glad that my videos are inspiring and helpful to you. Your determination to learn swimming and the importance you place on passing on this skill to your kids is truly admirable. Regarding the exhaustion you're facing during swimming, it's not uncommon, especially when starting out. Swimming engages various muscles and requires a different type of endurance than many other sports. Remember, it's okay to start with shorter distances and gradually build up. Focus on your breathing technique and take breaks as needed. Also, try to maintain a relaxed and efficient stroke technique. With consistent practice and gradually increasing the distance, your endurance will improve. It's never too late to learn, and I have no doubt that with your dedication and effort, you'll become a proficient swimmer. Keep watching, practicing, and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions along the way. You've got this! 🏊♂️💪
As a beginner swimmer at 47, This is super cool and helpful. My breathing technique sucks right now. But I'll get better with time, practice and proper guidance. Swimming is awesome! Full body workout! Thanks so much bro.
That's fantastic to hear! I'm glad you're finding the video helpful. Breathing technique can be tricky at first, but with dedication to practice and proper guidance, you'll definitely improve over time. You are the best!!!!! Thank you so much. Imma try it tomorrow 🙏🏼 I tried your technique this morning and thank God for you.. All this time I thought I needed to keep my head under water until I was out of air.. I ended up always gasping for air , lifting my total head out of the water, only to miss air all together. And I know now that my legs were dropping. Also you’ve got me thinking to keep more air “ in” to stay aligned! That back side breath and keeping my head back down is great!!!!! Somehow when you explain it, I can “ do” it..Now I feel more comfortable and can stick with my freestyle.. You are Great!!! I am a subscriber now and look forward to reviewing all of your videos.. You are the Best, and I’ve listened to them all… trust me!

Yesss! Thank you 🙌 I have watched like 20 different videos and finally fell on yours. Everything you explain and your techniques are gold! I'll definitely be trying the 2 strokes instead of 3 plus looking behind me instead of to the side and see if I can make it to the deep end. I'm always able to make it to the deep end when doing the back stroke but doing the free style i might make it to where the life guards sit on their throne by the poolside so I'm hoping the 2 strokes and looking behind me will up my game🏊♀️🏊♀️🏊♀️❤❤❤🇬🇧🇯🇲
I appreciate your feedback on the explanation, and I'm glad you found it helpful! That's great to hear that you're planning to put the techniques into practice tomorrow morning. Enjoy your swim session, and remember to take it one step at a time. Have a wonderful time in the water! 🏊♂️😄

Very well explained...excellent 👏 especially the last part was so true that we do not breathe for many strokes and then feel desperate for inhale n don't even inhale well . So great explanation thanks a lot this video was very helpful
Yes, exactly! Holding breathe is worse than anything. Many beginner make the same mistake and that makes swimming harder. Don't forget to check out our latest video. ruclips.net/video/Y1o-BTuIVaU/видео.html (How To Swim For Beginners - Four Drills to Perfect Your Swimming) - Niraj (CDO)
@@RocketSwimmingthank u for replying . I have difficulty in breathing in when face is out for breath n feel inhalation is very short compared to exhalation that makes it difficult even take 2 more pulls how can I improve
Thanks, for the clear instructions. I'm a beginner swimmer for almost two months. I tried it today trying to follow your instructions as best I could. It seems to be a timing issue which I think with practice I will be able to get it. My problem is when I breathe it seems to be mostly shallow breaths. Hopefully with more practice I will be able to get deeper breaths.
@@RocketSwimming Update: I finally seem to have the breathing down. I started breathing a little behind me and it made it a big difference. It kept my head lower and it helped keep my legs from sinking. Solved my sinking legs problem and made it much easier getting across the pool. Thanks for the tip .It was definitely a game changer.

I'm delighted to hear that you've found the channel helpful! Breathing can indeed be a challenge in swimming. Breathing Drill: 1: Begin with a kickboard or pull buoy for buoyancy. 2: Swim with your face in the water, focusing on your kicking and arm strokes. 3: When you're ready to breathe, rotate your head to the side (not lifting it out of the water) and take a quick breath. 4: Exhale gently underwater while keeping your face submerged. Alternate sides for breathing. You should also watch this video to learn swimming ruclips.net/video/Rqb3bnna21k/видео.html

Thanks for this man. Taking swimming lessons for the first time at age 35. I hold my breath while so called “swimming” as I think I’m gonna drown without full lungs. I end up choking on water when I need a breath. Gonna try this technique next lesson.
Nice clear simple instruction, exactly what I’ve been looking for👍. . breathing technique is such an important part of swimming, particularly freestyle and have been struggling to get it right. One of the main problems I seem to have is balancing the amount of air inhaled with the amount exhaled, so will give the 2 stroke and breathe method a go. . . also great to get swimming tips from Jack Black!! Hi jonny i'm from sri lanka .it's nice island surrounded by the sea,so i'm trying to practice swimming thesedays and very helpful your channel.if I need further more help i'll contact you.thanks again.cheers🙏
Thanks for the breathing behind tip that's what I needed. Disagree on the holding breath stuff though. If you do it right you dont really hold your breath you just slowly exhale for a longer time and breath in a big breath to last you longer. Also pro's hold their breath for the last few meters not to waste time breathing because they can breathe when they stop.
Been struggling with breathing every three so will try every two! Do you progress to three as you get more advanced? Do you blow out of your nose or mouth?
Sure thing! You can start with every two strokes and progress to every three as you get more comfortable. Many swimmers exhale through their nose, but it's essential to find what works best for you. Experiment with both nose and mouth breathing to see which feels more comfortable and efficient.

- Niraj (CDO)
Update:I didn't drink any water, it went very well. Now I just have to work on not trying to swim so hard. My instructor says that I'm too tense so I end up using too much energy and then I get tired way too fast. But my breath has made a drastic improvement, it's crazy how something so simple can make such a huge difference.
Amazing! I'm so proud of your progress. As you are now improving with your breathing, you will surely get calm after some sessions. Breathing is the most important part. Keep me updated on your progress.

Yes !! Getting better , your video is fantastic
Thank you
THANKYOU SO MUCH! I have struggled for ages to get my breathing right and the tips given in your video have unlocked my breathing technique difficulties. In particular the 2 stroke tempo and also face position tips real game changers.
You're so welcome! I'm glad you found this video helpful.
- Niraj (CDO)
I'm echoing what's been said below; "breathe behind you" was definitely the key to major progress for my freestyle practice. Thank you!!!
Swimming is indeed an amazing full-body workout, and I'm excited for you to experience all the benefits it offers. Keep up the great work, stay patient with yourself, and remember that progress comes with time and effort. If you ever need further assistance or have any questions, feel free to reach out. Happy swimming, and all the best on your journey! 🏊♂️😊

You are the best!!!!! Thank you so much. Imma try it tomorrow 🙏🏼
I tried your technique this morning and thank God for you..

During my practice last week I accidentally did what he is demonstrating like breath every two stroke little bit behind you and I managed to reach the deep end wall without stopping midway.Great advice thank you.
Thanks awesome!! Practice more and keep me posted on your progress.
Please tell me in hindi
So true
Superb explanation.. I'm goining to use these techniques tomorrow morning.

Don't forget to check out our latest video. ruclips.net/video/Y1o-BTuIVaU/видео.html (How To Swim For Beginners - Four Drills to Perfect Your Swimming)

You can do it! I am glad that you're making progress. Keep practicing and keep me posted on your progress.
Thank you sir for your clear instructions

@@RocketSwimming Sure..Thank you!😊
So glad I found this channel. Learnt so much. Breathing for me is by far one of the hardest things. Is there any drills you recommend?
I'm delighted to hear that you've found the channel helpful! Breathing can indeed be a challenge in swimming.
Breathing Drill:
1: Begin with a kickboard or pull buoy for buoyancy.

Subbed from the UK 👍😎
Thank you so much for such an awesome comment! Haha! Nice jackblack reference!😁😉

You're welcome! I really appreciate your positive feedback.

Thanks for the tips, very useful.
