    I've tried making armor, and it's alright, but one thing I learned from it, and one thing I'll tell you, is that room must be left for padding. You probably know this already, but the back and rib cage looked rather tight, so I figured I'd say something.

    • @nomadcontrafact6305
      @nomadcontrafact6305  3 года назад +1

      You are right, you won't be able to use such things without a soft layer. Here it is planned to make it from EVA in the future. Now it makes no sense to do it when everything is constantly changing. EVA will burn from welding

  • @padi-instructor
    @padi-instructor 9 месяцев назад +4

    I think the problem with air cylnders without feedback is you have no way to control the distance they move, they just push to full length. Or the air compresses and doesn't move against the load if it's too much, but then explosively moves to full limit if the load is suddenly removed. That could break the wearer quite badly. Hydraulics and servo motors give much better control as they don't compress gas. Even if they are overloaded they won't go out of control if the load is suddently removed.

    • @nomadcontrafact6305
      @nomadcontrafact6305  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, in theory there is such a problem. But it can be solved in several ways. For example, rigid stops are placed directly into the frame, which will prevent the joint from bending further and damaging the operator. Secondly, adjusting the pressure in the cylinders using a receiver, in which the operator sets the required pressure specifically for a given load. Thirdly, the working fluid itself is air, it is compressible, that is, the pressure decreases when entering a wide pneumatic cylinder from a narrow tube. And therefore, there is no hard actuation or stopper; in the initial and final stages of movement, a soft and slightly moving small stroke of the rod in the cylinder is obtained

    It would be more efficient if they would use fishing line twisted and then heated to create supercoils. Coat them with connector grease used in the automotive industry to connect electrical systems. Then when you run a current through them a low current they will contract like muscles except stronger and faster. Make them in bundles with a coating maybeIs seran rap?Place connectors to fasten them to the frame on each end of each bundle of artificial muscle.Have electrical wires connected into each end of the plastic muscle.Have the electrical wiring go through those cheap button connectors you can find on Amazon by the 100.Congratulations you've built a suit similar to what you'd find in a video game.Press the button on one side on the inside of the finger pad and the muscles there contract take your finger off of it and connect it to the ones on the other side and the muscles on that side contract just like on the human body.

    • @H34...
      @H34... 2 года назад

      Those muscles are one way, and more importantly have a cycle time limited by cooling speed, which rapidly gets worse as you put them together in a bundle.

    • @dawall3732
      @dawall3732 2 года назад +1

      @@H34... Depends on what you mean by coil speed?
      You create a super coil out of fishing line by placing the fishing line or any other thread under tension. It doesn't have to be a lot of tension it just has to be under tension. Then you spin the other end this can be done with an electric screwdriver or a drilll. As it spins the line will kink. If you continue to spin it under tension the line will kink all the way along its length. This after you hit it with a heat gun or a blow dryer will turn into a super coil. The kinks will actually set in that shape.That shape is the super coil. If you apply connector Greece or you have a copper wire running through the kink and you apply an electric current along the surface the kink after it is stretched out will contract back into the coiled shape. It can do so millions of times before it incurs any form of damage. It will contract with greater strength and speed than biological muscle. It also does not require very much voltage. You could run the entire exo suit off of a motorcycle battery for hours.

    • @H34...
      @H34... 2 года назад

      @@dawall3732 Cooling speed, not coiling speed. The coil needs to cool down in temperature in order to stop pulling, so the joint can move in the opposite direction.
      Cooling takes time, even more so when there is many of them in a bundle, those in the center of the bundle will have a much harder time getting rid of the heat used to actuate them.
      I'm not sure what to make of the motorcycle battery comment. I could run a desk fan off of a motorcycle battery for hours as well. What sort of power and efficiency do you expect these actuators to have?

    • @dawall3732
      @dawall3732 2 года назад

      @@H34... True heat retention is a problem. However it seems like it would be much less of an engineering problem than building an exo suit run off of hydraulics. Also hate retention would in part depend on what configuration the bundles are actually in. Instead of making a large cylinder bundle you could turn them into sheets or strips like ribbons. You could also run coils of thin tubing then fill with heat transfer fluid moving through.
      When I 1st found out how to make these things on RUclips I made some to lift and close the windows at the top of my greenhouse at home. As for energy usage those just run on the ambient heat in the air. Those I made out of spider wire I just wove them into ribbons about 2in wide 1ft long.

    • @nomadcontrafact6305
      @nomadcontrafact6305  2 года назад

      We experimented with coiled nylon line. Winding it evenly is quite difficult. It is also quite difficult to heat it evenly along its entire length. But it can be done. It is even more difficult to cool it down. The speed of these drives will be extremely slow. Running, for example, will not work for sure. Plus, the system will be more complex, massive and heavy, due to the fact that it will be necessary to have a heating circuit and a cooling circuit. Each circuit has its own carrier, its own power supply system, its own tubes ... Plus, the line breaks down extremely quickly. Any material that undergoes cooling and heating cycles degrades very quickly.

    Given the small actuation distance required to stiffen the spin I would recommend maybe switch to a cable tensioning system. basically replace the hose with a cable and a small motor with a deeeeep reduction gear box to get high torque without driving up mass and power requirement much. The gear box could be something low profile like a planetary, harmonic, or cycloidal drive given how little of the cable needs to be retracted in order to straighten the spine. It would be a lot safer too since you wouldn't have a pressurized, puncture sensitive hose strapped to your back just waiting for you to fall backwards and have it blow out your eardrums.

      These are prototypes. In order to make a commercial product, you need serious investment and experimentation with testing. That is, we are working out the very concept of exoskeletons, if we compare - this is a stick with a stone tied to it. And for sale you need a selection of materials and ergonomics. First, drill a hole in the stone, then replace the stone with bronze, then with steel, then shave off the stick, then drive in the wedge, and you will get a product - a hammer :-) We have no money for all this. We only have enough to invent a the exoskeleton itself.
      Perhaps someone will see this, who has the resources for this, and will be able to introduce it into the industry. Then, on a global scale, it will mean that we did not try in vain, conducting our experiments.
