    I bought one with three solar panels because of your reviews about three months ago, but had to wait for delivery because of covid and their new system being introduced. It arrived 2 weeks ago and now I am in a 2 day power out situation with a 7 day old daughter, 3 year old son, dog and wife. We have kept everything charged, deep freezer frozen, and refrigerator cold without any frustrations or difficulties. Just wanted to say thanks for the reviews - I’ve watched this video a few times and came across it again tonight while sitting in the dark - thought I’d share my inergy apex experience.

    You are right in your assessment. The issue is not about capacity, the issue is about meeting expectations. As advertised, 1500 Watt/3000 Watt Surge is different than if they had stated 550 Watt/1500 Watt Surge/3000 Watt Super Surge. I'm one of their original Kickstarter customer and I appreciate the product for what it can do. I just wish the specs was much more forthcoming. If it was, we would not be having this discussion.

    I bought the Apex based WP’s initial video a year ago on the first Kodiac. I felt hung out to dry after the harsh rant video. However, I am very pleased with my Apex. I got it for power outages and general prepping, not daily use for cooking, off grid living, or running high wattage hair driers. My 72 yo wife can hook it up and it is always ready to go. Unlike the Goal Zero which WP bashed initially but now praises, the Apex is truly portable and weighs half as much. Why would anyone want to hook up an AGM? The cost/performance benefits of a daisy chained lithium battery is 400% better than AGM. I really appreciated your reaching out to Inergy and refuting the acrid rants of the now infamous video. You did a good job. Keep up the good work.

    Thank you. I cancelled my Apex order. because I do want a permanent installation for my crappy old motor home I live in. I had ordered 2 of them because I have 1000 watts of solar panels. I want to be able to run an induction cook top or a convection oven or a microwave. I did that after seeing the video you mentioned. I am also adding a 500 watt wind turbin to my system because the sun doesn't always shine. Instead I went with a 3000 watt pure sine wave inverter and 3 100 amp hour Battle born LiFePo4 batteries. With the charger and battery monitoring system it came to about 600 bucks more than the 2 Apexes but should actually do what I want. I am now broke, but since I don't have rent or electric to pay for I will be able to add a fourth battery in a month or so. This video has confirmed that I made the right choice for what I am trying to do, so thank you again. I am still considering an Apex for things like running the pump for my sluice box when I can't get the motor home close enough to the water. Right now I'm using a 35 amp hour battery for that. It doesn't always last as long as I would like. Thank you some more for your're honest and informative videos. I watch all of them.

    I'd like to point out that Will's channel is about off the grid living. He's coming from the perspective of using it as a permanent all in one solar power solution. If this is the use case for Apex, his points are valid. I think Inergy should clarify more in its marketing that it should NOT be viewed as a permanent solution. I think the controversy is that a lot of people are looking at this product as a permanent solution and it's clearly not what it was intended for.

    • @chachi5975
      @chachi5975 5 лет назад +9

      Anytime you are using solar panels permanent or temporarily, they are outside in the elements, duh! Will's concerns are legit and Canadian Prepper is a suck up who doesn't know anything about the electronics involved and just read what Inergy told him to.

    • @Cryo837

      You are right. The Apex can't compete with Will's long term solar systems. This is an emergency/short term solution, not your long term whole house solution. For most people, this will get you through a few weeks of SHTF just fine.

      That wouldn't have been an accurate representation of it's capabilities while also showing what they recommend due to the limitations of lithium batteries. Goal zero lithium has the same battery limitations as well.

    Simple solution for the Apex: Use a thermostat on the cooling fan. Then, it only comes on when the inverter/charger/batteries are warm and needs cooling. They could then go back to the more simple switch that can also be weather proof and heavier duty than that cheesy little three position switch - which I would have used a three position rocker switch, rather than the twist switch. But, they never asked me.

    I've had the Apex for a couple of weeks now. Bought it to run refrigerator and coffee pot during/after a hurricane, and to run kitchen appliances while camping. Cannot get through a 6 minute pot of coffee. Doesn't reliably run the fridge. Sending it back. I feel the highlighting of the 1500 watt inverter in their advertising is misleading.

    Being one of the first pre-orders back in January, I was very excited to recieve it, even though I was going to have to wait several months to get it. I actually picked it up from the warehouse on my way to Overland Expo West. I know that I was very shocked when I first saw the video you mentioned and was tempted to return the unit based on that, but decided not to take a knee jerk reaction. I'm glad that I did. It took the unit along with the new Lynx solar panel that finally came after a long wait time to the Northwest Overland Rally in Plain, WA. The pair performed very well together and powered my son's laptop, my Dometic cf40 fridge and other electronic devices. I really like it's lighter weight and portability.

I own a Kodiak and I ordered Inergy’s new unit the FLEX with an extra battery that I can swap between the two units if needed. All Inergy units are Lithium batteries, some of the others use sealed lead acid. I’m not a pro electrician that’s why I like the plug N Play units.

      I watch Will’s channel and he is great at what he does. Maybe it’s a conflict because Will is a affiliate of a competing brand and limiting critiques to each channel prevents a critique war? I bought my Kodiak because of Will endorsing it. Canadian Prepper has left your comment up and he replied with Inergy’s statements so maybe that is the fair thing to do. I ordered Inergy’s new FLEX unit and an extra lithium battery.

    Confused, here.
    Will Prowse stated a laundry list of shortcomings of the product. He contacted Inergy to let them know. And they sponsor him. He's taking a risk but showing objectivity.
    You read direct verbiage from Inergy in response to Will's criticism of them. That's a bad look. Seems like they sent you out to do the dirty work for them.
    CP, you do an outstanding job of methodically presenting your reviews. Your silence would indicate your confidence in the Inergy review.
    I watched both yours and WP's. And I gave each equal weight.
    Why did WP's criticism of this one product rile you so much?

  • @dream_weaver5779

    The person that gave that bad review on the Apex is also sponsored by Apex. He has since talked to Inergy and put out as new video. It is obvious Inergy sat him down and explained why the Apex is designed the way it is. Now he goes into more explanation covering his ass and doing his best to mend bridges. In his test he gets a continuous draw of 760 - 790 watts. better than the 550 Ingery states. Your video is spot on. My Apex is supposed to be here at then end of July. Thumbs up for Apex

  • @herbwhole
    @herbwhole 5 лет назад +15

    Inergy: Shit! Everyone is watching the Will Prowse video. Hurry call Canadian Prepper he'll shill for us 😂.
    Listen Will brings up some really good points. And his video like all of his videos have him testing the units thoroughly. At no point did he ever say inergy as a company didn't produce good products. He just said the Apex had some major flaws. I don't understand your logic? Just because he supported a company for the last year-and-a-half he should never give a negative review on new products? If anything that makes me respect him more. this video speaks more to your character as I'm sure inergy reached out personally to have you do a collateral damage video. For someone who pushes preparedness so much having the best product available especially in prepper situations seems key. Whether that be. Inergy, goal solar or building your own unit.

    I love my Kodiak. I have run my 1/2hp sump pump and a 4 gallon air compressor with it. It does have some extreme capability. A goal zero yeti 1000 lithium runs a 1500 watt load for 40+ minutes. Is it hard on it? Yes. Can a Kodiak/Apex do that? No. The battery/inverter is not designed to deliver 1500 watts continuously (more than 2 or 3 minutes). That is a huge load though. So if you truly need 1500 watts for extended periods of time, dont buy an apex. However, for just about everyone, an Apex will meet your needs. It has met mine.

    Dude you drank the Koolade, a dead switch is primary , not cosmetic. Switch should be of the highest quality with ZERO malfunctions. Look at good USA built ham radio equipment, you don't have these issues switches. It's like saying your parachute pull did not work when you tried to open it, but the overall chute was of built high quality. That is not what they would be saying at your funeral. 2nd point a1500/3000 watt inverter should handle the minimum load period and your WRONG about the it is not meant to handle those loads. That is why it has that rating. That is why they have UL ratings on equipment. Please dont delete all the truthful comments and get back to the Truth! thanks

Of course I am not knowledgeable to the minutia involved in your disagreement. I think you guys provide great info to the masses [me]. You need to talk. You both are confident,
    knowledgeable individuals and I do not want to figure out who is correct. Both products are solid. No product will serve each of us in every way. Will only stated that the Inergy product excelled in certain applications and did not possibly measure up in others. He constantly pushes for improvements. That is my impression of him and that is his way. You , on the other hand have wonderful knowledge regarding the whole picture of prepping, self sufficiency and such. For all of us, [the un-informed], try to work this out. Censorship is not the answer as long as the opposing views remains civil.

    Thank you for your simplified technical information :-) Knowing how to ask the questions is half the battle in understanding a product's viability. I have been looking at these for awhile, felt the Kodiak the best option out there for me, now sure the Apex absolutely is. I am not looking for a full gas generator and don't have a desire to travel with a gas can. As a single lady traveler, I am in need of a unit that makes using the extra agm backup battery for support when boon docking more feasible (in addition to being solar capable). Also, the truly portable power source option without complicated electronic hookups is a great option for the non-technical (plug and play as it were)...

    Wait, What!! This is not a 1500w unit then. If it can't do it continuously, then its not accurately rated. My grip is with the rating, as it should be. I understand heat is an issue, but don't tell us its 1500W, and then turn around say, "oh, well that's for a short bursts". I thought the "up to" 3000w was for short bursts. With all this back pedaling, lets just say its half the rating of 1500, and call it what it is, 750W solar generator. Additionally, I don't think deleting Wills comment/post was ethical or warranted. This makes you and Inergy look bad. Maybe he got a bad unit ( hey, it happens ).

    I use for occasional power outtages and it will run my 1100w microwave or 900w coffee maker or our full sized refrigerator freezer ...I have charged from solar and the standard oem 100w wall charger and I added a 600w dc power supply when I want to charge more rapidly...Leaving the unit activated when changing at high wattage, speeds up the charge as the active cooling with fans helps keep the battery and electronics receptive to more watts... When it provides ~1000 watts the unit will shut down when charge depleted to 1/3 full...in practice the unit claims up to accept up to 600w input and I have found that the input rapidly drops to ~250w as components warm up even with the fan running.

    I've built 5 units similar to this APEX with AGM batteries ($475 50Ahr 50lbs) . I'm getting older and my solar generates are getting heavy to carry to my deer blind thru the woods. I'm looking to build using a Lithium battery to cut the weight. Made a price list to make the solar generator comes in at $1150. At $1150 it has twice the storage (50Ahr) capacity to the APEX and weighs in at 15lbs more. Bottom line the APEX is good on price for someone whom can't build it themselves (very compact). These Lithium batteries are expensive and price should come down in the future.

      @John Smith, like you, I've thought of a more apocalyptic disaster that could take decades (if ever) to recover from.
      In that case getting spare parts to repair anything will be very difficult if possible at all. Having duplicates of important items may not be economically practical for many folks.
      Survival may depend more on learning to be able to live off grid before the major a SHTF. Actually decussing which friends you want to team up with for support.
      That said, living in Commifornia our disaster is more likely to be a natural one like the "Big One"!
      The rest of the country will wave goodbye and good riddance to Cali as it slips into the Pacific Ocean. After the San Andreas makes Arizona residences beach front property what might be left of pieces of Cali will be just about useless.
      Talk about refugees, Nevada and Arizona will have their hands full of crazy entitled leftist Californians who thinks the government and everyone else should take care of them.
      Solar power (see how I brought it back) will be priceless in this situation since even a year or two or three, any of these solar generators and their batteries should still be working. I love induction plate cooking!

    All info that was presented on the product prior to release by everything including your channel never mentioned the limitation to not use 1500 continuous watts. Whether you should or shouldn’t isn’t really the point. I’d rather get my full blown capacity if I need it when I need it. In a true SHTF scenario you may have a real need for a 1500 watts continuous for a period of time.
    In the same way that Tesla gives you the option for ludacris mode even though it’s not recommended it should have still been an option here if it’s what they are actually advertising as usable.
    I really like your channel but I can’t believe your defending a company stating one thing up front but not really providing it to you.
    If that 100k lumen flashlight you were using did it for a few minutes and then shut down and only worked at 1/3 lumens most of the time would you be ok with it?

    • @CanadianPrepper
      @CanadianPrepper  5 лет назад +1

      I think youre right, more disclosure is required with that. Personally I cant think of anything that I would need 1500 watts continous after SHTF that I wouldnt need for much longer than 40 minutes which would be outside the capability of this device seeing as it cant charge that fast. The flashlight does only work for short stints but flashlight companies address this by stating lumens like 1-3 minute/ 60 minutes. So you get 60 minutes total in 1-3 minute bursts. I just presumed I wouldnt rely on this to do any long term heavy lifting when its only a 1.1 kwh battery

    I thought you should know that there is another video out there by an RVr who had, in a sense, the same problems with her Apex solar generator. The styrofoam casing rubbed against the power indicator switch but instead of breaking the switch turn the switch on! Now depending on how long it for the package to be delivered let's just say it was over a 4 week period. The battery was drained to zero and the ventilation fans would not turn off! By the way, she made a RUclips video on this along with an update from the president of that company. President offered to fix it and send it back but, crying out loud, the battery was drained to zero! The battery is no good!! You should really find this video and watch them both. I have great concern about this company.

    I don't want to sound negative...; you talk about a "Solar Generator"; but, you only mention solar panels once as an option. Without solar panels, it is only a fancy battery backup. With solar panels, it becomes a solar generator. So, what are the specifications with solar panels attached...panel output, charging time, unit performance with panels attached, etc.

      It is no different than a gas generator. Both store potential energy, it is just that they store it differently.
      A gas generator utilizes chemical energy and converts it to mechanical energy and then into electrical energy. The energy Kodiak and Apex use chemical energy (in the batteries) and converts it to electrical energy.
      Both are the same, they just store energy differently.

    I'm a weekend RVer. My family and I like to hangout by the beach and public parks. So I've been thinking of a solar generator due to its quiet feature. I was thinking plugging the APEX to my RV and run my TV (277w), Surround Sound (200w) with my Bass Speakers (41w) for about 4hrs. max. Maybe an occasional Electric Kettle (1100w) or the Coffee Maker (700w). Would it work? If it does, how much power will I have left? 1HR., 30mins. or 5hrs.? I have been thinking of the DELTA. But what turns me off by it, is when it gets too hot it shots down and takes longer to charge. And from the reviews it does not have long life in comparison to other solar generators. What I like about it is, its quick charge when its cool. What I like about the APEX is the RV 30AMP plug. Is it really a 30AMP output? Help! I've been asking the same questions with these VLogers. They haven't answered me yet. Well except for this DYI person and says the DELTA is a Go. Dont know what to decide on. HELP!

    Almost sent mine back for the Lead Acid issue. The BMS runs it from 9.3 to 12.6 Volts. A lead acid needs from the 11 range to 14.2 ish. They are being a bit generous IMO on the LA effects. I would never run LA batteries chained to this... which was an original intent. You have to have it within a tenth of a volt to chain it (how many will do that)... which is a large pain in the butt with storing a lead acid at a higher voltage and running it low.

    I might suggest for future versions of the Inergy portable units, like the Apex, that they make the whole thing weather proof, or at least weather resistant. It should be able to handle being out in the rain without safety or electrical concerns. If a patio AC outlet can be weather proofed, then so can the outlets on a portable power system, like that. Internally, the circuit boards could be coated with epoxy, like marine electronics often are. And, if you drop this thing in water, it shouldn't spell disaster for the unit.

    Q: when will they provide an adapter to MC4 from EC8 as with the Kodiak? If not, why not? Pretty prohibitive for anyone who’s already invested in solar panels from other companies...

    • @chachi5975
      @chachi5975 5 лет назад

      It's a slippery slope that they have created. The MC4 connector can only handle up to 30 amps so you can't connect too many panels in parallel. If you tried to run them in series with MC4 the voltage is too high for the MPPT controller they installed in the Apex. You can make your own EC8 adapter, the connector is available on Amazon and just needs to be soldered but be aware of the limitations. That's part of the reason Will was disappointed in the "Upgrade". It could be made much better and less proprietary in the solar component.

    I bought the Kodiak for powering up the refrigerator during an extended power outage. I've come to find out that a 3 yr old fridge cannot be powered by the Kodiak for more than 2 minutes. It automatically shuts off after a couple of minutes because it consumes 11 AMPS when powered on and its TOO MUCH for the Kodiak. I wish I knew this clearly before purchasing the Kodiak. I don't have a smaller fridge or freezer to move things to in case of a power outage. Their marketing/website made it sound like I'd be ok running a modern energy-efficient fridge (regular size) for 33 hrs! I don't really NEED the Kodiak for anything else during a power outage but I guess since its really a 550W unit.. I need to adjust my expectations accordingly. What a ripoff. Its a fancy power brick for my cell phones and computer and LED lights!

    IMHO, 1500 Watts is simply not enought duty to be practical. 3,000 Watts continuous is more reasonable, with double that for peak turn ons that last for up to 20 seconds. The ONLY home Solar/Electric Generator I have come across which meets this criteria is the *Titan Solar/Electric Generator.* I have to strongly disagree with your premise about drawing full load for hours on end as not being typical. In a major power failure i.e. The Montreal, Quebec ICE Storm of 1998, which I lived through, it was a freaken nightmare to go 20 days without power. I agree THAT kinda scenario is not so common, but in areas where power failures are more common, then a sustained 1500 watt draw for at least 5 hours is not uncommon, thus, I don't think the Kodiak or the Apex is quite there yet. One way Inergy could get there is to equip its products with up to two channels of Solar charging with up to 1,000 Watts of panels per channel on two seperate channels, thus 2,000 Watts maximum charges the 1.1 Kw internal battery at a rate at least equal to its full rate drain. Now you are NOT discharging the battery source fully, or at a high rate, thus your likelihood to damage the battery is much less. As for the heating issues, then use larger gauge wrapped internal transformers and mosfet transistors with greater heat sinks. The weight would increase, but not so much as the render the unit uncarriable.

    If they are promoting a $450.00 discount, in my opinion, this item is way over priced to begin with.

    I like my Apex with my 200 watt panels. I only going to use mine for low power equipment. I like your video, full moon adventure clubs video and wills video. I sill like the Apex and I am waiting for the lithium battery expansion from Inergy. The only thing I don’t like is the price it should be 1200 dollars for the Apex. I paid 1300 with the pre sale. Thank you Canadian preppier for the video.

    Refrigerators have compressors but those compressors can be upgraded to something with less power demand. I know cause I’ve seen it. Just gotta find it again.

    What's that magnetic antenna you put on your truck in the intro?
