    I had a training session with RH awhile back and was in half-guard bottom. I nearly died just from the pressure.

    Roy is one of my dream instructors to train with. Im modeling my Jiu Jitsu after him. Hes so technical. He moves inches while others flail for miles. Its inspiring.

    The comment on value for money really rings very true. I've spent lot of dough going to seminars to meet and learn from well known people in the BJJ community, and just been completely underwhelmed by a general lack of originality or detail in how they approach teaching and technique, or just with giant swaths of time spent pontificating. Conversely, I've also taken the $25 dollar drop in black belt seminar from a relative no-name, and had my mind changed all-together with regard to how jiu jitsu works.

    Roy was doing leglocks way before
    it was popular. He's also certified in JKD.

    great interview. Great insights on BJJ , martial arts and the sports world. His comments on BJJ in your later years really are on point and really capture a lot of that experience. Look forward to learning more of his lessons. This video helps me to more clearly define my own BJJ goals.

    That's been my favorite guard pass since 2002 when I started BJJ. People can spaz out, etc. but it's still really effective.

    Love the guy, it's a real master of the bjj studies. Although he has a bit of the creepy Roy Dean Aura I have to admit

    • @errcoche
      @errcoche 8 лет назад +5

      He is Roy Dean's Master. He is right about leverage but it does seem to be older Nth degree black belts carrying about 40lbs of extra weight who are all about "leverage". I don't see his pass working for Jake against a 200lb opponent. His awareness and skills are also something that are just hard to learn - they come with 20 plus years in the game.

      Brian Jennings Was just watching it again and noted that he was emphasizing the "how to train" aspect rather than just showing techniques. Probably going to buy his app. I think a major issue for me is finding a training partner with the patience to really work on one thing until it's fully mastered. Young guys just want to roll.

    The elbow placement at18:18 through 19:00 seems problematic because it can be shoved off the hips to the outside, sliding in the Gi. Professor Harris says that he is not vulnerable to the triangle, but if that elbow can be moved off the hip then the triangle is right there. Putting my weight into it doesn’t seem sufficient to stop that elbow from being moved. Anyone else experience this?

    • @bradmares
      @bradmares 6 лет назад

      the point of the elbow is slightly on the inside of jake's thigh (by having pulled the hips slightly back and contracted the abs.) He also addresses what if someone pulls the arm and tries to create the space to allow for this (putting the elbow on the outside,) by going with and beginning to pass.

    • @aaronholland2771
      @aaronholland2771 6 лет назад +1

      brad m thanks, but the elbow and arm are still susceptible to being shoved off or pulled off. If you haven't, try this technique exactly as instructed and ask your partner to move that elbow.

    • @bradmares

      I have open mat in approx two hours. i will attempt and get back to you.

    • @bradmares
      @bradmares 6 лет назад +3

      I was able to give it a few tries while rolling. I was unable to get my elbow to stay like he is. I was able to time the attempt to pull out my arm to pass.
