  • My Initial "Gravel / Adventure Mode" impressions and key Upgrades.
If your MTB's axle size Wheel spacing allow, you can transform your mountain bike to faster Gravel / Adventure bike duty with a Road Wheelset:
    700c x 9mm axle @ 100mm / 135mm Front / Rear width.
Many Disc Road bikes have this standard in common with Entry level Mountain bikes (sub $1000 USD), - a factor not widely recognized.
I simply used my "gathering dust" factory Aluminum (Disc brake) wheelset leftover when I upgraded my 2017 Giant Contend SL2 to a Carbon Wheels !
Once done you can switch between Mountain Trail & Gravel Road mode via quick wheel swap.
Obviously you'll want to have identical speed Cassettes on both wheels so no Deraileur re-tuning is required at swap time.
    Here's Part 1 - I cover axle sizing & wheel weight:

Amazing how a simple tyre swap can transform a bike 👍 I like the Speedride tyres, light and fast, I use them through the summer when riding all terrains.

      Indeed a big difference.
It's actually a "Rim & Tire Swap" together as the lighter Speedride / AT Rides are mounted to the Giant SR2 rims formerly on my Giant Contend Disc Road Bike.
Although the Speedride would fit the heavier stock rim this bike came with too.
      Thanks for your comment !

Curious do you swap to different tire for Winter use & which one ?

@@hellosunshine1090 last winter used the 650x47 Gravelking SKs, pretty good in all but the slippiest conditions. I wore out the Speedrides in the spring and now run 2 wheel sets. DT Swiss G 1800 spline for gravel with Gravelking SK (43mm front 38mm rear) and C 1800 spline with Gravelking sticks 32mm for road. Pretty happy with the setup so far. Not sure what I will use this winter.

      Nice.
Sounds like you are in a "Winter Snow Zone" area !
May I ask where, roughly ?
      I'd love that climate.
We're in a "humidity / slush zone" he he. It's beautiful but NO SNOW.
My FAT bike (Mongoose Malus - see other video) is jealous of your Snow too.

Is it way faster now on the 700c wheelset? my 1x11 mtb is a 29er, and its very slow especially on climbing, I was thinking of grabbing a gravel bike but if changing tires will make it faster, then its a cheaper option ... tnx

Kind of. You'll gain around 1mph. Pedals easier for sure.
      Still has heavy MTB build.
I just modded to drop bars from flat.
Its more speedy now = more Aero. Im hanging a bit better w / Gravel boys.
If youre young / super competitive you may appreciate a carbon super light Gravel.
A guy in our group has one he's always first.
We're equal om road bikes otherwise.
      Cheers !
